I created this tabletop composition using my Pokémon collectibles to demonstrate both the rule of thirds and leading lines. I positioned the Pikachu figure along the right third of the frame to establish it as the main focal point rather than placing it in the center.

The Pokémon card in the foreground is placed diagonally so its edges naturally guide the viewer’s eye toward Pikachu, creating a strong leading line. The Poké Ball in the background adds depth and context to the scene without drawing attention away from the main subject.

To enhance the composition, I photographed the scene from a low angle and used a shallow depth of field to separate the foreground, subject, and background, creating a more balanced and visually engaging image.

    Process / Info:

I created this tabletop image using my Pokémon collectibles to demonstrate a small depth of field. I positioned the Pikachu figure in the foreground and focused directly on it, making it the clear subject of the photo while allowing the background to gradually fall out of focus.

The other Pokemon figures and the Poke Ball were placed farther behind Pikachu to naturally create a soft background blur, emphasizing the shallow depth of field. I also photographed the scene from a low angle to enhance the sense of depth and keep the viewer’s attention on the main subject.

  4. Shutter speed is the length of time the camera’s shutter is open. Shutter speed is measured in seconds, or fractions of a second. Typically, when someone is just walking around snapping photos, around 1/80 is a good shutter speed. For this theme, I want to see intentional use of shutter speed, either much higher or much lower than the typical settings used when walking around.

Important Notes: This does not mean that you can take a regular still image using a higher shutter speed. If you are using a high shutter speed, it should be for freezing fast motion. The same goes for slow shutter speed, this should be used intentionally to achieve motion blur, you may need to use a tripod or something to keep your device still depending on what your shot is. You must have a clear subject, I don't want to see a fully motion blurred image as a submission.

Info on how to adjust your shutter speed is in the second image. If you are using a phone you may want to use a camera app that lets you change these settings.

Please let me know if you have any questions ❤️
