    Process / Info:
I created this tabletop composition using my Pokémon collectibles to demonstrate both the rule of thirds and leading lines. I positioned the Pikachu figure along the right third of the frame to establish it as the main focal point rather than placing it in the center.

The Pokémon card in the foreground is placed diagonally so its edges naturally guide the viewer’s eye toward Pikachu, creating a strong leading line. The Poké Ball in the background adds depth and context to the scene without drawing attention away from the main subject.

To enhance the composition, I photographed the scene from a low angle and used a shallow depth of field to separate the foreground, subject, and background, creating a more balanced and visually engaging image.

    Process / Info:

I created this tabletop image using my Pokémon collectibles to demonstrate a small depth of field. I positioned the Pikachu figure in the foreground and focused directly on it, making it the clear subject of the photo while allowing the background to gradually fall out of focus.

The other Pokemon figures and the Poke Ball were placed farther behind Pikachu to naturally create a soft background blur, emphasizing the shallow depth of field. I also photographed the scene from a low angle to enhance the sense of depth and keep the viewer’s attention on the main subject.

  4. Theme 3: Shutter Speed

Shutter speed is the length of time the camera’s shutter is open. Shutter speed is measured in seconds, or fractions of a second. Typically, when someone is just walking around snapping photos, around 1/80 is a good shutter speed. For this theme, I want to see intentional use of shutter speed, either much higher or much lower than the typical settings used when walking around.

Important Notes: This does not mean that you can take a regular still image using a higher shutter speed. If you are using a high shutter speed, it should be for freezing fast motion. The same goes for slow shutter speed, this should be used intentionally to achieve motion blur, you may need to use a tripod or something to keep your device still depending on what your shot is. You must have a clear subject, I don't want to see a fully motion blurred image as a submission.

Info on how to adjust your shutter speed is in the second image. If you are using a phone you may want to use a camera app that lets you change these settings.

Please let me know if you have any questions ❤️

    Process/info:
I took this photo using a slow shutter speed to capture the train as a single blur while keeping the platform sharp.

I was hoping this will create a contrast between motion and stillness that highlights the feeling of speed as it passes through the station

**Btw title isn't needed for submission. I'm just doing it for fun 😅

Running around the backyard is his favorite pastime, so Pupperooni was much more willing to help me capture an image with a high shutter speed. Despite running as fast as his little legs can carry him, his face, ears, and legs appear sharp in the image, and you can clearly see his facial expression and muscle tension.

Looking outside once in a while is a process turned into a great result. I took this using my DSLR camera in “auto” mode and edit this using Iphone- filter and enhance it a little. It’s a bit hard to capture them but I realized at that moment, “what if I’ll follow their movement?”, so I did. It’s a great shot!

I created this tabletop image using my Pokémon collectibles to demonstrate the intentional use of a slow shutter speed. I positioned Pikachu in the center as the main subject while spinning two Poké Balls on either side, allowing their motion to create a natural blur while keeping Pikachu sharp and in focus.

The Great Ball in the background was kept stationary to provide contrast between the moving and still objects, making the motion blur more noticeable. I also kept the camera steady throughout the shot to capture the movement clearly while maintaining a sharp subject, highlighting the creative effect of using a slower shutter speed.

  10. Theme 4: 10 Images, Same Spot

Pick 1 spot to take your images, this is a good one to do outside. Capture 10 different images using the techniques we have learned so far. Please reference which techniques you are using in each photo.

    Techniques to use:
    - Rule of thirds
    - Leading lines
    - Small aperture / F-stop
    - Intentional shutter speed

The goal of this exercise is to allow you to see the world differently and push yourself to create photos you may not have planned or

Same spot means youre standing in one place, feel free to turn all the way around and take any angles youre able to shoot at from that spot

each photo needs 1 technique, not all in one

    Process/Info:

Decided that the best spot to stay in the same place for all the different shots would be my desk 🌝

    1. The red model (Sazabi) in the center is kept in sharp focus while the models behind it are blurred, making the main subject stand out using small DOF
    2. The group of model figures is positioned around the center and upper third of the frame using rule of thirds
    3. A slow shutter speed was used to create motion blur and light trails of the keyboard lights, looking like smoke rising
    4. The red keycap (Reddit symbol) is placed closer to the center-left of the frame instead of directly in the middle, drawing attention to it while the surrounding keys using rule of thirds
    5. Mixture of rule of thirds and small dof to highlight the red arrows keycap
    6. Using leading lines of the keyboard to bring focus at the end to white toy figure (Baymax)
    7. Using leading lines and small dof to guide the viewer's eye from the front of the keyboard toward the back
    8. Using a mix of leading lines and rule of thirds focusing on Baymax
    9. Small dof so background is blurred, but you can see the words on the screen
    10. Using a mix of leading lines and rule of thirds as #8 but from a top down view with a different toy figure

I took this using my DSLR camera. I focused it on what’s need to be center of attention while the other extras were just in a blur. No filter.

    Process/info:
For my one spot, I chose the bottom of my back steps, leading into an enclosed dog run. I chose this spot because it has a little bit of everything - bright new wood, dull old wood, tiny flowers, and two different types of fences. I tried to incorporate all of these elements into this challenge!

    1. Shallow Depth of Field - I kept the spider eggs and wooden post in sharp focus, intentionally blurring the background to make the eggs stand out
    2. Shallow Depth of Field - Again, using the cross-section of old and new wood, I tried to direct focus to the bug in the center (not my fave)
    3. Leading Lines - Using the wooden fence rail to guide the eye from the foreground to the background, creating a clear visual path
    4. Leading Lines - I used the gate frame and diagonal support beam to create lines to guide the eye from the flowers in the foreground to the grass and shrubs in the background, giving it depth.
    5. Rule of Thirds - I tried to create a rule of thirds image with the grass at the front, fence in the center, and sky at the top.
    6. Rule of Thirds - Using the grass, fence, and sky, I created visual lines, and placed the house in the upper left corner to draw the eye
    7. Shallow Depth of Field - I kept the dandelion in clear focus, blurring the background
    8. Leading Lines - I used the steps and triangular space underneath to direct the eye towards Pupperooni
    9. Shutter Speed - I used a fast shutter speed (1/1136s) to intentionally freeze Pupperooni's movement as he walked toward the camera. This eliminates motion blur, keeping him in focus
    10. Leading Lines - I used the natural lines and repeated pattern in the fence to guide the eyes towards the surprise pup, whose face is the clear focal point

This was a challenge, ladies!! 😮‍💨
