  7. as long as you get to enjoy your quality of life, does it matter what job?

is that not why you're working? for your off time? any job that suffices and is reachable etc, go for it :D

  8. Your attitude is pulling the ladder out from under you. You cannot expect to take a job ment for high school students and bored old ladies and support your family. YOU have to put the work in and move your way up. As long as you have a boss, you have always have an opportunity for advancement by taking their job someday.
And as for insurance, of course you have to pay for it. It's not welfare. I dare you to go find cheaper private insurance. You will not. When I began there minimum wage was $5.15/hour. Insurace cost, for me alone, $28 biweekly. Private insurance for under $60 a month? Hell yeah Im in on that. When I changed my insurance to the family plan, I paid $36, biweekly. Insured our whole family for under $80 a month. Where do you expect to beat that? $20 copays. No aninual deductable. I can't praise that insurance enough. They have millions of people paying into that plan, they can afford to offer you those rates.

Your hours are being cut? Let me tell you what your managers wont. Your hours are cut because either you don't do your job correctly, or you have a bad attitude and no one wants to work with you. Trust me they will fight to have their best employees on the floor everyday. How do you expect to advance if either of those are true.
Can't afford a car? Wtf kind of cars are you looking at buying? This isn't the same economy it was in Henery Ford's day. Go buy a used car, two paychecks is all that it takes. Save half of your check for 2 months and you will have a car. When you move up, go buy a better car..& repeat. I've never financed anything, and always managed to have a car, and all my bills paid. Even when making $5.15 an hour. Sounds to me you're living above your means and expecting McDonalds to bail you out. That's not how life works. Pick your priorties

  9. OK, Julie. I won't interfere with your capitalist orthodoxy. Obviously, the only thing separating success from failure in this world is attitude and perseverance. The steady decline of wages in proportion to inflation and cost of living is because of people being lazy and not striving.

It's all so clear now. I'll go tell the economics professor down the hall from me that attitude determines microeconomics.

  10. You've not been living in the real world long have you? When minimum wage goes up, so does the cost of living. Then you'll just be whining for $20 an hour

  11. I have been in the real world long enough to know that's a myth perpetrated by chambers of commerce.

The actual formula for cost of living is inflation, GDP, and wealth disparity. Turns out that the more wealth is concentrated upwards, the more expensive it is for everyone else to live. There is zero historical evidence that increased wages means everything costs more. If anything, the opposite holds true: increased purchasing power increases competition via demand and reduces costs.

  12. If you don't like the way this country is run, your free to move to another one. If you hate capitalism so much, I'd reccomend North Korea

  14. I love my country so much I served in the armed forces and am a veteran of a war I did not agree with because I believe duty trumps personal beliefs. I love my country so much that I can criticize its direction because I want it to be the shining city on the hill.

I am sorry that disagreeing with you politely means I should relocate to a dictatorship. I guess democracy means different things to different people.

 last reply. I'm listening to The Misfits while I get ready for my next lecture.

  15. Capitalism is what this country is built on. Raising the minimum wage won't change that. Sitting around complaining, won't change that. Poor is a mentality, it is perminate. Broke is a tempory situation. The poor, will always be poor while the broke are just down on their lorals. Your attitude directly affects the altitude you achiece in life, especially financially.
Most of us, learned about finances from our parents. Regardless of your age, your parents grew up in a different economy than you, as it is everchanging. Duty trumps personal beliefs, because we are a country that does what we're told rather than think for ourselves. It is these inherited and outdated financial ideals that breeds the poor mentality.

No matter how much money they make, the poor will alway be poor because of the mentality they hold.

You play the capitlism game, or you let it play you.

  16. Gotta say, Julie you pretty much nailed it
