Gay does mean happy, merry... Queer does mean strange, awkward... It's not because it's not used in its right contest anymore that the meaning changed. I can say that flower means goodbye, but that it's not because I use it flower as goodbye that flower means goodbye. People use words for other meanings that they have, but that doesn't mean it's right, you can't just change what a word means just because years passed by...
Mona, well then how do you decide when to randomly add a definition to a word? And how are people informed of it? Nope, it's just misused
Of its misused that often it may be added. Just like the abominable snowman is in the dictionary not a "word" but it's still there for some reason.
Not in the dictionary... In the modern dictionary... It's not the same... I do get your point, and everyone uses gay when referring to a homosexual person, but that doesn't mean that merry isn't it's true meaning... It's misused but it still means happy
That's the iBooks dictionary and it's modern if you look in a old dictionary it will say happy. Nothing against u just saying
All u better leave garret alone or i jump in and when i do it will turn this place into a shit storm im not the biggest im not the baddest but i can hold a fight so leave him alone
In the 1800's the word gay was also used to refer to female prostitutes. So it has several meanings, not just 2. But most words have more than 1 meaning or can be used used in a multiple context, so why can't this one ?? It's up to you in which way you interpret and use it. secil
