You have a whack dictionary. It's showing what it's commonly used as. If you get like a websites or something (hell yeah ) it will say happy, colorful, or merry
I think I'm a tad late in this conversation.. But: Gay practically means "happy", Garret. It's just an old fashioned meaning for that word.
