I think the issue with this is comparing investments to birth relationship with child. I completely believe that if anyone has invested time and emotion into their career, and they cherish it, losing it can be (though not often this extreme) a traumatic thing. The issue with comparing that to a woman having a child (or even a man taking care of their child) and losing them to someone losing a career they invested into is one’s naturally more traumatic. A man losing his job and hurting because of it is completely valid, but comparing it to a woman with their own child is silly as far as being able to replace them and the emotional worth. Ultimately, the /general/ value of a job vs child to the individual with one or the other is not comparable.
The point was that we are unfeeling to men and assume they'll just get over the end of a career, though it can often lead to suicide. I don't think there's any risk to mothers by overesimating the significance of a man's career to him... I'm saying we should be empathetic on a case-by-case basis and understand what a job means to anyone when they can't have a child of their own... when it's all they have. Today, jobs are more replacable than they used to be. People can go through multiple jobs in a lifetime. so in the modern context the comparison isn't usually valid.
