Katalina sat on Charlie's lap on a log next to the fire. Shivering, Katalina cuddled closely with Charlie. "You cold, Baby?" Charlie asked. "Just a little," she laughed. Charlie wrapped his arms around her tight, squeezing her to warm her up. He ran his hands up and down her arms to make friction. Scooting closer to the fire, he finally warmed her up. He kissed her neck gently and she nuzzled him. "Hey, Lovebirds, do you guys want a s'more?" Matt asked. "Yeah, I'm hungry. Do you want one Sweetheart?" Charlie asked. "I'll just have a bite of yours. I don't want a whole one." Matt made the s'mores and everyone sat around and talked and laughed the night away. Hours passed and the kids all had a good time. Ashley stood up and dragged Justin along with her. "Come on," she said. "Lets go back to my place." As Justin walked passed Charlie, they highfived and Katalina shot Ashley an amused look. Soon after that, everyone started filing out slowly. Finally it was down to just Katalina and Charlie. "Do you want to go look at the stars?" Katalina asked him. "Whatever my baby girl wants to do is fine with me." They both stood up and walked over to a smooth patch of sand with relatively no rocks. Charlie layed down and Katalina layed down next to him, placing her head on his chest as they looked up at the stars. She sighed happily and he pulled her close. "They're so pretty," Katalina said. "Well, they're a close second to you," Charlie said with a smile. Katalina kissed his smile quickly and layed back down. Charlie picked up a nearby little pebble. He tossed it in his right hand while Katalina layed on his left side. He threw it up and caught it. Then he threw it again and caught it. Then he threw it one more time and it landed on the opposite side of Katalina. He lifted himself up by his hands so that he's hovering over her and smiled down at her. "You gunna get that rock?" she teased. "Hmm, I think it can wait a few minutes. I on the other hand cannot." He leaned down so he's ontop of her but hovered lightly so he wouldn't squish her. He kissed her gently and she kissed back, smiling against his lips. "You are so cute. You know that?" he asked. "No, I wasn't aware of that. But you on the other hand are beyond cute," she said, grinning from ear to ear. Charlie grinned a goofy grin and kissed her again. They spent the night together laying on the beach. When they woke up in the morning, Charlie picked her up carefully and set her in her seat in the car. She slept the whole ride back home.
A couple weeks fly by without a hitch. Justin and Ashley finally made it official. Ryan and Colleen were stronger than ever. Katalina and Charlie were the lovey dovey couple of the school. And Matt and Katie were still the power couple. It was after those few weeks though that everything started going downhill. "Hey Sweetheart," Charlie said then kissed Katalina at her locker. "How are you this morning?" "Good! Colleen, Ashley, Justin and I are going to the mall after school today. Do you want to come with us? Ry can't 'cause he's got work, and Katie and Matt are going to the movies." "I just want to be wherever my baby girl is." "Okay great!" Katalina smiled. "So I'll see you then," and with that she made her way to her first class. After school, Charlie caught up with Justin before they met the girls. "So how are things with you and Ashley?" "Good. She's a feisty little one though. Talk about fire! It's hot though." Charlie chuckled. "Just treat her right and you've got nothing to worry about. I knew her from Katie and Katalina when they were little. She's a sweetheart, but she's been through a lot. Behind that fire is a guarded heart. Be careful with it." "Yes sir. Don't worry, she runs the relationship more than I do. I think she'll be okay." They continued to walk and talk until they got outside and were with the girls. "Hey Baby," Katalina said as she walked up to Charlie and wrapped her arms around him. He kissed the top of her head and hugged her tight. Katalina smiled up at him. "Ready to go?" "Yes ma'am! Let's go." They all piled into the car and they were off. The girls hit every store and came out with multiple bags each time. Justin and Charlie served as caddy boys, and they were quite good at it too. The girls piled the boys with bags after bags after bags. Finally, Justin needed a break. "My gosh! Do you guys want to just buy the whole mall and be done with it already?" Justin exclaimed as he slumped down onto a bench. "Fine, you big baby. Get up and we'll walk to the car. We're done now anyway," Colleen said as she grabbed a bag to lighten Justin's load. "Thank you!" Justin jumped off the bench and practically ran to the car. Once they crammed all the bags in the trunk, Katalina spoke up. "I do want to go to that little boutique across the street. We can just walk. It's not that far and I need to walk off the pretzel we bought in there." "Alright Girly. Let's go," Ashley said and followed behind. Charlie stood to Katalina's left as they walked down the street hand in hand. Katalina made a sudden movement and her phone went flying out of her back pocket and landed in the street. "Damn!" she yelled. "Oh don't worry. I got it Hun," Charlie said and cautiously stepped into the street because it was a red light, which soon turned green. The lights turned bright. Engines roared. The smell of burning rubber filled the air and Charlie's lungs. It all happened in a split second. The twinkle in the drivers eye was sick as he jumped that truck. It went from 0 to 100mph in seconds. The driver laughed and the truck lunged at Charlie's body in the middle of the street. Justin could only get a few words out before it was all over. "Charlie, watch out!"
