The cannabis plant is a herb, which can be used for many things like hemp and such. The chemical found in this plant THC, is a drug. It is both.

Weed is a drug, it may be a plant but it's still a drug. Anything that paralyzes your senses is a drug, including alcohol.

"Medicinal" is a complete joke though when you can get a card by saying just about anything. "My arm hurts" Have a card! Any medicinal purposes it does serve are overshadowed by the way people who use it act. Peoples' actions are mostly what have created the negative response to its legalization.

Also it's an* herb. And in op's name it should be than*. Some people here should worry less about finding excuses to justify their hobbies and more on education.
