    Chapter 17

After the movie, which was quite hard to concentrate on since what happened earlier, Ben took me back home. It was a nice, peaceful, silent ride. When we finally get back to my house, I'm expecting the door to be kicked off it's hinges. But it isn't. I keep forgetting that my father's finally out of my life.

I walk up to my door with Ben, smiling. I unlock my door and find the house the same as when I left it.

"You going to be okay alone?" Ben asks, leaning in the doorway.

"Yeah, definitely," I smile, walking over to the kitchen. That's when I realize that I have nothing to eat. I totally forgot to go to the store. "Shit."

"You okay?" Ben asks, walking over to me.

"I just forgot to grab some groceries. Now I have nothing to eat."

"Then, I say, you come back over to my place. That way, you don't have to cook and you can spend some more time with me. It'll be a win-win situation," he smiles, wrapping his arms around me.

"But I don't want to intrude. Plus, what will your parents say?" I ask, looking into his eyes.

"My parents are out of town. So what do you say?"

"Fine." I kiss him lightly and pull myself from his grip. I walk to my room and make sure that there's nothing to do.

"You know, you can stay over too. If you want," I hear. I can hear the smirk in his voice.

"Thanks, but no thanks," I smile as I stick my head out of the room.

"I'm already making you dinner. You just might as well spend the night."

"Yeah, umm, no." I laugh and look at him.

    "For me?" he asks.

    "Hey! That's my bit."

"Not really. Just come on. You know you want you!" Ben exclaims and walks over to me. He pulls me towards him and wraps his arms around my back.

    "Come on, Alana."

I hesitate and then give in. "Fine. But, you better not try anything. If you do, I'll beat you like a black haired daughter," I smile. Ben frowns at what I say. Okay, bad pun. Because it was true. But I still used it anyway.

"Fine, I accept your terms," Ben says, rolling his eyes. "Now, pack your bags. You're going to my house." He lets me go after he plants a kiss on my nose. I walk to my room and grab my school bag. I stuff something to sleep in, a outfit for tomorrow, and other stuff. I walk out of my room and grab my keys off of the counter.

"You sure it's okay that I spend the night?" I ask, walking towards the door where Ben is standing at.

"Hundred percent." Ben smiles and takes my hand and I walk out, locking the door behind me. I get into the car and Ben drives the short journey to his house.

I walk into his house when he opens the door. I now see how bad his parent's taste is. The green couch is so dark it almost blends in with the walls, which are a midnight blue. There are bright paintings and draining on the wall, the neon colors popping out of the walls. They are amazing, against the fact that it doesn't match the scene. I look at the signature that is "B. C." B. C.? Who could that be?

"I see that you've noticed my paintings. My father always wants guests to see the amazing talent I have," I hear. I turn to see Ben smiling happily.

"You did all of these?" I ask, looking at him.

"Yeah, I did. Though, I must admit, my dad should have picked a better color background."

"I agree. Neon and dark colors don't match that well. Especially when they are pink and yellow and red. Maybe we could convince him to change it."

"Not possible, at least for a while. He's out on business." Ben frowns for a moment but shakes his head and smiles. He walks into another room and calls to me, "Go ahead and make yourself at home."

"Where do I put my bag?" I call to him.

"Down the hall, second door on the left," he calls and I hear the sound of pots clanging together. I walk down the hall and open the second door on the left. I stop at the door once it's open. The walls are a light, beautiful grey. His king sized bed has darker grey covers. Beautifully dark. At least he has some taste.

I finally walk inside and look around. There aren't any posters on the walls, just paintings and and drawings like in the living room. But there are sculptures. They are beautiful.

"Wow," I whisper and set my bag on his bed. I walk over to his desk to see a notebook open to drawing. It's me. My black hair is in a braid, Katniss Everdeen style. My brown eyes are not dull like I think they are, but shining and bright. I'm wearing a black strapless dress, the skirt at my knees. I look beautiful.

I start to flip through the notebook, seeing more and more drawings of me. There was one that really caught my eyes. I'm on a skateboard with a boy. My black hair is flowing behind me and I have a huge smile on my face. I'm holding onto the boys shoulder an a pair of heels are in my hand. The boy has black hair that is also flowing behind him. You can his he grey eyes shining in happiness and he has an amazing and dazzling smile on his face. I realize exactly where that was and who it is. The boy is Ben and that was the night of that dance.

The picture is one of the first drawings in there. There are many others. Some of me, some of him, some of other kids at school, some of us both in the same picture. One is of us, like on the bus. His arm around me, my head on his shoulder, his eyes trained on me. My eyes are closed and a smile on my face. Ben has a smile on his face as well.

"You like them?" I hear, causing me to jump. I turn to see Ben leaning in the doorway.

"They're amazing. You have such an amazing talent," I say breathlessly, fanning through the notebook.

    "Thanks. What's your favorite?"

I smile an turn to the drawing of me in the dress. "This one and," I say, flipping to the front of the book, looking for us on the skateboard, "this one. You capture the best details."

"That one on the skateboard was one of the first drawings of something that wasn't nature, you know? That night was nice, except for the part where you shoved the door into me. But, I loved it. It was special."

"Really. It wasn't totally that special for me. I was sitting in a chair, one dream after another passing by. Finally, I couldn't stand it and walked out the back, since Gen was having too much fun in the dance floor. That's why I was walking the long walk home. But thanks to you, I didn't have to walk much longer." Ben walks over to me and smiles.

"Well, at least you managed to kill a couple hours. Now, we dine," Ben says, taking my hand. I sigh a silent sigh of relief. He didn't ask about what I meant by the dreams passing by. He pulls me to the kitchen. I smile when I see that he's made it a candle lit dinner. Best day ever!

    Chapter 18

After the amazing dinner, Ben and I sit on the green couch and watch television. We argue over what to watch, a movie or the news. Finally, we settle on a romantic comedy and, of course, I won the argument. Ben makes some popcorn while the opening credits roll through. When he comes back, he sits down, pulling me into his lap. He wraps his arms around me and pulls me close.

The movie passes by quickly, even though I didn't pay any attention to it.

"Another?" Ben asks. I nod and we search for another movie. Finally, we find a comedy and we watch quietly. I close my eyes at one point and soon feel someone shaking me.

"You fell asleep," Ben whispers when I peek through my eyelids. I nod and walk to his room. I change and grab a pillow and blanket. I walk back into the living room and yawn.

"What are you doing with those?" Ben questions, gesturing at the pillow and blanket.

"I'm sleeping out here," I reply. I haven't seen a dream in days, and I plan on keeping it that way. Ben, however, seems to have other plans. He shakes his head and takes the pillow and blanket.

"You are sleeping in my room. You won't sleep out here," Ben says.

"Then where are you going to sleep?" I ask, staring at him questionably.

"In my room," he says with a smile. He takes my hand and pulls me towards his room. I stop at his door and stand in the hall, waiting for him to change. He opens his door moments later, shirtless, causing me to melt. He grins and takes my hand, pulling me gently into his room.

"I know you are going to pull something," I whine. He laughs and shakes his head.

"I promise I won't. Now, come on. You need your rest as much as I do," Ben says, kissing me. He pulls me into his bed after he lies down. He wraps his arms around me and kisses my head.

    "Good night, Alana," he smiles.

"Good night, Ben," I smile back. Then I frown. This is going to be one hell of a night. I close my eyes and wait. Then, I get sucked into his dream.

I'm in a room. Ben's room to be exact. I'm watching him and a girl. It's not me, the hair color is the wrong shade to be me. It's lighter. Her arms are wrapped around him and they are sitting on his bed. Ben has the biggest smile on his face.

"Ben, one more time, please?" the girl asks. Now, I know it's not me. But I know that I've heard that voice.

"You sure, sweetheart?" he asks, nuzzling her neck. This is breaking my heart. This isn't me, but he seems so happy. So in love. So not missing me.

"Yes, please!" she exclaims. Ben lifts his head and plants a kiss on her lips. That shattered my heart. The girl giggles and now I know who this girl is. That bitch!

"Charlotte, come on sweetheart. Just enjoy," Ben smiles. I'm speechless. Even if I could talk, I don't think he would want to hear what I have to say. Ben starts kissing her neck, moving up to her lips. When they kiss, you can feel the electricity that goes through the room. I can't take this much longer. This is a bullet through the heart. I can't believe it.

Finally the dream fades. I hear, "I love you, Charlotte," as it does.

I blink a few times and my sight returns. I see Ben smiling down at me.

"Morning, sleepy head," he smiles, leaning in to kiss me. I push him away and stare at him.

"How could you, you bastard?" I breath. "You son of a bitch. How could you!" I start yelling at him.

"Wait, wait, slow down. What's wrong?" Ben asks, staring into my eyes.

"That dream! How could you have that dream?!" I start crying. Ben tries to put his arms around me, but I push him away.

"Stay away from me," I sob. I climb out of his bed and grab my bag. I run into the bathroom and sit there, bawling. I hear Ben knock but I ignore him. He's made me upset enough. Finally, after I pull myself together, I change into school clothes. I walk out, Ben watching me.

I watch him, exhausted. Have I mentioned how terrible it is watching dreams? It's exhausting; I never get any sleep. Luckily, I don't have to deal with it often.

"What are you talking about?" he whispers finally.

"I saw it," I breath. "I saw your dream. I see everyone's dreams. It's why I don't drive. And why I pass out during study hall. And why I did on the bus. But, I'm exhausted from crying and watching your dream. I'm going to eat and leave. After you take me to school, I don't want to see you ever again." Ben stares at me like I'm crazy. And I am, for believing him. I walk away with my bag in hand.

I dig through his fridge and find a energy bar. I open it out of the package and take a bite, waiting on Ben. He walks out of the kitchen and grabs his bag. He tries putting his arm around me but I push him off of me. I get in his car and wait.

    "Alana, I-" Ben starts.

"Ben, shut up and take me to school," I say angrily. "Now!" Ben holds his hands up in surrender and drives off. Once we get to school, Ben tries to talk to me again, but I get out before he does.

"Alana! Wait!" I hear. I just keep walking, pissed off. Finally, I get into art class and push myself as far away as possible. Through out the day, I ignore him. At study hall, after the daily dream, I find an energy bar sitting in front of me. I know who it's from. But I don't care. I'm so exhausted and I eat it anyway. I'd still be happy if he hadn't dreamed.

    Chapter 19

Through the month I don't talk to Ben, I go to court to press charges against my father. He doesn't get life, or the death penalty, though I think he should have. He gets twenty years. Which I good enough, I guess.

I also miss Ben. I miss everything about him. His grey eyes, his laugh, his smile, his personality. But I see his dreams every day during study hall. Mostly, we just stare at each other. After his dreams, I always find an energy bar. I know how much he wants to talk to me. But I never want to hear his voice ever again. His amazing voice.

I sit in the library, waiting as usual. I see Ben lie his head down, grinning. Finally, my vision goes black.

There he is, watching me like usual. He's holding a notebook and a pencil. He smiles at me and writes something down.

"I want to say that I'm sorry," it says when he shows me. I smile slightly and watch him write down something.

"I didn't know that you would see that nightmare." Nightmare? That was a nightmare to him? Then we have that in common.

"Are you still angry at me? You of all people should know that people have no control of their dreams." I nod at him but then I take the notebook from his and write down a question.

"Then how are you controlling this?" it says.

"I've been focusing. I'm practicing," he writes.

"Can you talk to me after this, please?" it says. I nod and smile. Ben reaches out to take my hand as the dream fades.

I blink a few time, listening to the bell ring. I look around and see the energy bar. I open it and take a bite as I grab my bag. I head out and see Ben, smiling and in his convertible. I walk to him and get in the car.

"You got the message," he smiles.

"Which one? The continuous texts and calls or the dream?" I smirk.

"The dream. So, do you forgive me?" he asks.

"I don't want to trust you..." I say, drifting off. Ben's smile slowly disappears in sadness. I look at the expression in his eyes. Sadness. This causes me to smile. "But... I will trust you. I forgive you, Ben." He smiles and takes my hand.

"Good. Because, Charlotte was seriously trying to flirt with me for the past few days. It was getting annoying, especially when she tries to talk too high," he smirks.

"Well, let's get that bitch off your mind," I smile. He nods and cups my face in his hands. He kisses me gently causing me to shiver. It's been a while and I needed that.

"You bitch!" I hear and turn to see Charlotte watching us. I smile at Ben. He smiles back and I kiss him gently, hearing another call from Charlotte. I turn to see her face red, obviously angry as hell.

"I think it's best we leave," I suggest. Ben nods and starts his car. I wave at Charlotte as he pulls out. I love that angry look on her face. Ben and I laugh as he heads out onto the road and out of the parking lot, Charlotte throwing a small tantrum. What a spoiled rich girl, always used to getting what she wants.

"So, my parents are back in town, and I want you to meet them," Ben says while driving.

"Oh, God. I was dreading this. What are they like?" I ask. Ben laughs and glances at me quickly.

"You'll find out," he says. I groan and get out of his car as he stops at my house.

"Thanks, Ben," I smile at him and start walking away.

"I'm pick you up later!" he calls, causing me to look back as he pulls away. This is going to be a fun night.
