I looked around, hardly daring to breathe. Everywhere I turned there was the most amazing smell. Imagine being surrounded by fresh cookies, but they're for a party and you can't even eat one. That's what it was like. I walked slowly through, staying as far away from the humans as possible. Then I saw Rita, in the center of a thick group of the people. I walked in holding my nose, I was definitely NOT going to mess this up. I was about a foot away when she noticed me. "DANCE PARTY!" Loud music blared all over the room as hundreds of people started jumping around. It was the perfect getaway. 'Come on Zoë, concentrate.' I closed my eyes and zeroed in on Rita's smell. Too much perfume, perfect. I snaked through the crowd, and spotted her going through an exit. "Oh no you don't!" I attacked and ate, and was gratified by A.B.S blood. Damn a cyborg. The scene around me faded as the simulation shut off. I walked out, still covered in the robo-blood. "Very good Zoë, you may sit." I sat down in my seat. I sat in silence as the other kids had their turn. After we were finished we headed to the cafeteria for lunch. I grabbed my food and went to sit with Kayla and Xavier. Kayla stared into space, lost in her own thought. "Hello? Moon to Kayla do you read me?" Xavier waved his hand in front of her face. Kayla snapped back. "Oh sorry guys, just nervous about my flight exam." Xavier laughed. "Oh yeah, the little angel can't fly!" Kayla glared. "I can too, it just actually takes skill to fly! Unlike your mindless killing." "How would you know H.I and Restraint aren't even classes you take." "At least I have morals!" I sighed and started eating my fish. Kayla and Xavier were like a car and dog, always fighting and annoying the hell out of their owner. But it was natural. Kayla being an angel and Xavier being a demon. I stepped into my pod, the dark slides went over the windows. I was leaving the building and we were never allowed to see where we were. Suddenly the pod jolted to a halt and I stepped into one of my favorite places. The ceiling was 30 feet above me as I faced the long hallway. On either side of me there was glass separating me from the creatures. 378 different "fictional" creatures in their ideal habitats. I looked at my schedule, I was with the vampires. I walked down the hall, seeing kids I knew along the way. Xavier was running around with some other werewolves without a shirt on. Do werewolves have something against shirts? Kayla was in another tank surrounded by light and winged people. Finally I got to the darkest corner. I looked in but didn't see anything, typical. I went to the door. "DNA identification." A metallic voice commanded. I held out my arm as the machine took a pinprick of blood. I stood back as the door revealed what was inside. A large dark forest surrounded me, it was never day here. Something went past me as I stood there. "Nix, I know it's you." A little girl walked out and smiled at me. She had paper white skin, dark hair and red eyes, just like every other vampire here. "Did you see how fast I was?" "See you? How could I have." She beamed at me, for a vampire she could be very bright. "What are you doing here?" I turned to she Ivy, the snobbiest vampire that ever existed. "Because I'm a vampire, duh." She snarled. "You're no vampire, half-breed." She said the last part like it was a crime. "Now get your hands off my sister." Ivy tried to pull Nix over, but Nix wouldn't have it. "I don't wanna!" Ivy tried to smile at Nix. "Come on dear, you don't want half-breed scent all over you." "At least she smells better than you!" Ivy growled and stalked off. Nix looked up at me. Nix lead me through the forest, around us I could hear dozens of others. She lead me to her families hut. "Mom! Guess who's here!" Midnight walked out. "Hello Zoë, Ivy was storming around so I thought you might be here." I laughed, it was a wonder Ivy was such a snob. Her entire family was so friendly. "Are you thirsty?" "Oh no, I'm fine." "Well at least let Nix have something. She's been running around all night." I walked inside with Nix. The hut was small but comfortable, with a kitchen, living room and two sets of stairs. One to the loft and the others to the basement. Nix sat down on a stool while I stood. "There you go, don't drink it all at once." We walked outside. "What was it you wanted to show me?" "Didn't you see it?" "See what?" "Moms having a baby." I looked down at her. "How could you tell?" "Couldn't you?" Suddenly Ivy popped up with Zax, her new boytoy. "What are you still doing here? Half breeds shouldn't be near my house." Zax guffawed. I could tell why she had chosen him, he was clearly an idiot who would do whatever Ivy wanted. Nix piped up next to me. "She's more welcome then YOU are." Ivy bent down till she was nearly eye level with little Nix. "Careful what you say little sister." And she disappeared without another word. Nix and I walked in silence till we reached the center. This was where you could find most everybody, they all came here. Most of them paid me no mind but a few would shoot nasty looks in my direction, after 10 years I'd gotten used to it. In the center the chief was speaking. "15 real people have been released into the woods. All have been courteously donated by the national jail. To the public they are all on death row." A few of the more ruthless vampires snickered, others just looked up waiting for him to continue. "Nobody may attack more than one, you all know the consequences for anybody who does." Everybody nodded solemnly, an exile to the cages, which was the scientists research and testing lab. "Now let the hunting commence!" Everybody dashed off in the blink of an eye, not taking notice of anybody else. As I ran I saw Ivy and Zax running to find a human. Then I smelled it, blood. I ran towards it fast as I could, determines to catch them. I finally found her, she was standing at the base of a tree, trying to hide herself. Without a moments hesitation I pounced. A scream pierced the air and it became silent, she never spoke another word. As I was drinking I smelled something familiar, it couldn't be... I looked at her now pale face. I walked away from Rita's drained corpse. I grabbed her prisoner ID tag to show I had really caught somebody. I laughed to myself when I saw Ivy and Zax Without any tag. Nix walked up to me. "You caught somebody too!" I looked at her in surprise. "You caught somebody?" "You betcha!" She held out a bloody ID tag. Yep, she definitely caught somebody. Suddenly a ringing filled my head, time to go back to base. I quickly hugged Nix and ran off. I reached the door, but this time they had somebody waiting to let me out. I walked back to my pod, not really noticing the weird looks I got. It wasn't till later that I realized I was covered in blood.
