I think I have a lot of female acquaintances / general friends, but my close / best friends tend to be male. Idk why.
I'm not saying this is you in particular, but my theory on why some women can only make male friends is this: male/female friendships are easier for women to maintain (if the dude is straight anyway). Even if the guy has zero interest in dating his female friends, biologically they're still attracted to them. Because of the attraction, guys will put up with a lot more bs from their female friends than a straight girl would from another straight girl. A female-female friendship takes more work and needs a lot more mutual respect and effort.
Yes, that last line really hit it. I feel like it takes so long and alot of effort to make a lasting friendship with a female.

Perhaps. Most of the close friendships I've had with other females throughout my life were short-lived (like we were only friends for a year or two) while most of my long-lasting friendships from childhood have been with guys. I'm not someone who has ever had a lot of emotional energy to put through maintaining a lot of friendships and I suppose the male friends in my life have been more understanding of times where I kind of was off the radar
