Luke was lay face down on the dashboard, a large shard of glass protruding from his chest, his lips pale blue and his pale face trickling with blood. 'No!' I cried, I wanted to reach over and yank it out of him, but I knew i'd only make things worse. Plus I couldn't have moved anyway, as the car roof posed as a ridge between our seats.

I sat for what felt like hours as the fire brigade came with chainsaws and chopped the roof off the car so they were able to whisk Luke and I away to the hospital. The revving of the chainsaw was somehow soothing, though it was only the results of the accomplished task that would console me in the slightest.

Finally, i saw them scoop Luke out of the car, careful to avoid the glass. I was hardly paying any attention at all to the ambulance crew, I was too busy trying to hear what was being said about Luke. I tried to forget the excruciating pain in my legs, but still only managed to interpret a few words. 'Glass' 'Heart' 'Surgery' 'Bloodloss' and then the most painful three words I thought I'd ever hear. 'Were losing him.'

A sob racked my chest, then the paramedics yanked me out of the car. I felt nothing. Morphine had nothing on the numbness in my heart.

    *2 Days Later*

I was in hospital...again. You know that there's something seriously wrong when you're in there so often even the cleaning staff know your name.

Except I wasn't alone this time, Luke was still here too. Although he had not woken up yet, I begged the doctors for more and more information on his condition. They told me he was extremely lucky, that glass was one inch from putting a hole through his heart; he would have died within seconds.

Myself on the other hand, not so much. My legs had been so badly crushed that nearly every bone was fractured or broken; I had been told I wouldnt walk for at least two months.

On a lighter note, I no longer blamed myself as much for the accident. The truck driver had been drunk, and had had his licence ripped up on the spot once that fact was discovered. I also blamed Jared, as he was the main reason Luke had been angry, and was also the reason we were driving in the first place. I was going to kill the next time I saw him.

My train of thought was interrupted as I heard a groan from across the room. I sat up in my uncomfortable hospital bed to see what was going on.

Sat in the bed across from me was Luke. I noticed no difference other than the rate on his heart monitor had changed since the last time I looked. His arms were neatly by his sides, resting on the aqua blue blankets. Then I saw it. His hands moved. Oh my god his hands moved! He's awake!

'Luke!' I almost shouted in excitement, I had thought i would lose him. 'mmmhmm' he groaned, clearly in pain. I called over the nurse to deal with it and she injected more morphine. She tilted up his bed so we could see eachother.

I had not seen him properly yet, and gasped in shock. He had all sorts of tubes and machines around him and several bandaged wrapped around him. His eyes were purple and puffy and his blonde hair was bloodstained.

'Luke, oh my god I'm so sorry..'
'Not..your...fau-' he was struggling to speak as my interrogation of the doctors had told me that his lungs had been scraped with the glass, so merely to take a breath would be painful.

'Shh baby, don't worry, I'll come over' I said, glancing down at my legs. They were in splints from the hips down so it was hard to even get in a wheelchair, let alone move in one, but I would try, I owed it to him.

I tensed my face in concentration as I told my body to swing my legs off the side of the bed...now. I didn't move. Okay then maybe one at a time. Right leg, move. Nothing. Left? Nothing. Anything at all, even a toe?!?! My eyes widened and my heart thumped wildly in fear. Oh my god.

    I was paralysed.

Everything from that moment on was so surreal. I was subjected to multiple scans, tests, physio-therapy, basically anything they could to find out the problem. The doctors could find nothing irregular other than the fact my legs had near enough been mashed, which was not the problem, so instead they put it down to pure body shock.

Due to this, I had to stay in hospital a lot longer than anticipated. Luke did too, as the glass near his lungs had caused a nasty chest infection which meant he had trouble breathing. The rise and fall of his chest was shaky and he was so pale he was hardly recognisable. It broke my heart to see him so hurt.

I sighed and lay back on my bed, closing my eyes and wishing for all of this to go away.

    -----------------------------------------

When I opened my eyes I was still in hospital, great. I sat up in my bed to see the same sights I'd seen for the past few weeks. The flowers on my bedside table, cabinets of various medication and painkillers, and of course Luke, still lay in bed across the room. He looked so pain stricken.

The lights were dim as it was night time and other patients were sleeping and any nurses were scarce at this hour.

Then I heard the sound of heavy footsteps which shocked me. Nobody I had heard before had steps like that, so I lay down and shut my eyes, feigning sleep. I heard them get closer and closer until they suddenly stopped. I tried to even out my breath to make the act more convincing, but the person did not walk away.

Then, I felt something cold and hard pressed against my neck. 'Sit up.' a voice growled. I slowly opened my eyes to see those fluorescent blue eyes staring at me again, the man was back. I whimpered and sat up in my bed. 'You, have caused me a lot of pain.' he snarled, 'and now it's your turn.'

I expected him to slice my throat there and then, but instead he walked over to Lukes bedside and twisted his hand around one of the tubes. 'N-no..please!' I stuttered. He smirked and yanked it out and Lukes heart monitor dropped. 'Youre killing him!' I screamed, no longer caring for the sleeping patients.

He ignored me and carried on. All I wanted to do was get up and fight him, save Luke while he couldn't save himself, but I couldn't move no matter how hard I tried. All I could do is sit and watch as the monster ripped tubes out of his broken body, right until his heart rate met zero, a continuous beep that could never mean anything else.

'No!' I screamed, 'You've killed him! Luke! Luke no!' I sobbed uncontrollably and the man laughed. He then came over to me and slided a blade across my throat, and left me.

I could feel my windpipe filling with blood, warm metallic liquid pouring onto my clothes and bed. But I didn't care.

For the first time in my life, I wanted nothing more than to die.
