I stood up, my fists clenched. "Why are you here?" Julia stood next to me. "If you've hurt my grandmother, I swear to-" "Oh, looks like you've found them." Julia's grandmother appeared behind him. "Girls, Brick says you're friends from school." "You could say that," I said, glaring at him. Julia's grandmother went back downstairs and I heard Julia sigh with relief. "If you had done anything to hurt her-" "I wouldn't bother," Brian -er, Death, said. "I know the exact date when she will die. Bit pointless for me to kill her, really. " Julia gasped. "Why?" "Because tomorrow she will have a heart attack and die before the ambulance comes. Besides, I've only ever killed six people, your mothers and-" "The family from Kansas." I finished for him. "Yes," He acted surprised. "Well, I usually just come to collect, but I needed to get you two alone." Julia walked up to him. "That's why you're here." Death nodded. "I've come to collect you two." "Collect us?" I asked. "So, are you going to kill us?" "No, no, no," Death shook his head. "Like I said, you two are special. I'm not sure why, but I can tell I need you for something." "Well that's just great," I said sarcastically. Death grabbed Julia's hand and my hand. "We really must be going." "Going where?" Julia and I said in unison. Death smiled, and for the first time since I'd met him, it looked like a real one. "We're going home."
