Chapter 3: The Dance, 3 days earlier (Lily’s Point of view) I walked into the school thinking about my best friend Samantha Winters, I was upset that she couldn’t make it to the dance, but then I was quite relieved as well. I kinda wanted some time away from her. Anyway, it meant that I could finally talk to Josh (the guy that Sam had gone all goo-goo eyed over) he is so fit! Everyone says he’s got a six pack. Not as if anyone’s looked, obviously. He and Sam would make a great couple, I wonder if I can persuade him to ask her out… Well, I need to find him first. I looked for him at the bar, (surprise-surprise!) he wasn’t there. I decided to look for him at the food table … he wasn’t there either. My stomach grumbled, I looked at the massive spread of gourmet food laid out on the table in front of me … chocolate fondant, toffee cheesecake, mini sandwiches with weird flavour combinations... maybe it wouldn’t hurt to have just one plate-full before I find Josh. After about my fifth plate of food I decided to finish looking for Josh. I looked around the hall and I saw him sitting on a chair with his head bowed in his hands. I approached him slowly and I sat next to him “Hey … are you all right?” I hesitantly put my arm around his shoulders. He shook it off. “Josh? Are you…?” “I’m fine!” he nearly growled at me “I’m just… Nothing, just leave me alone.” He turned his head and looked away from me. “Josh, look at me! I’m talking to you!” “What?!” he looked at me. “You’re obviously not fine. Please, just tell me what’s wrong, I can help you.” I said, trying to make him see sense. “Well, okay, if you really want to know… Lucy dumped me just now, I can’t stop thinking about her… It’s breaking my heart…” His voice trembled and tears started appearing in the corners of his eyes. “Where is she now?” “She ran outside… She might be in the field or something.” I paused “Lucy never runs outside…” “I know, I thought it was strange too, anyway I’m going to go get… Some food…” I watched him as he walked away. I checked the clock, standing on tiptoes to see past some low-hanging bunting. 10:38 It was dark. Lucy was outside. Grabbing my jacket, I ran outside, thrusting the doors open so hard they rebounded off the walls with a loud bang. I didn’t notice. I was already running towards the field. Towards the white figure lying, unmoving in the wet grass. It was Lucy. Her white dress stained red with blood.
