  1. I bolted upstairs and into the bathroom as soon as I heard the cough. **** I thought.

I cleared my throat, hoping it was just a coincidence but i just coughed again, my throat rattling. I grabbed the rag on the counter, knowing what was coming next.

My father had lied. I was going to die the the way my mother and Darker had. In a bloody grave. I would slowly bleed to death in my own home.

I coughed again and could hear the horrible liquid bubble up in the back of my throat. I coughed again, spraying blood all over the mirror.

"Joe!" I cried, his name filled with blood and terror when I cried it out.

    -—Joe

I was watching Kyle and Duchess play when I heard Tess call my name from the bathroom.

"Joe!" she cried, sounding like she was choking and was scared of something.

I got up and walked into the bathroom where Tess was coughing a lot of blood into the sink.

"Tess?" I said, shocked at the about of blood she was coughing up. She turned and coughed again, reaching an arm towards me then started to fall.

I was just barely able to reach her and pull her into my lap. I started to panic because I didn't know what was happening, so I pulled out my phone and dialed 911.

"Hello? Yes, my wife is coughing up a lit of blood and, oh god, now blood is coming out of her eyes and nose and ears. Please come! And hurry! She's going to die!" I closed my phone after giving them my address and heard Tess whimper and say something.

"No! I don't want this to happen now!" She paused, coughing up mote blood. "I just got back! I don't want to dye now!"

"It's alright, you're going to be okay." I said, trying to be strong. Please! If there is a god please save her! Don't take her! I thought, crying.

"Mummy?" Asked Kyle, standing in the door way, crying and backing up, frightened from the amount of blood he saw.

"It's okay, Baby." Tess said, reaching a bloody hand out to him.

"Mummy, what happened?" He said, taking her hand and sitting down next to her.

Tess started to answer but turned over and puked a majority of the rest of her blood onto the white tile, Tge blood starting on the tiles then running in the cracks like little rivers.

"Denver, Colorado, peramedics. Open up!" shouted someone at the door. I reluctantly left left Tess and ran to open the door. I then ran back to the bathroom and grabbed Kyle so the medics could get through.

"No!" Kyle kicked and screamed. "Bo, mummy! I won't leave you! Mummy! Mummy?!?"

I took Kyle upstairs and stat him on his bed. "Kyle, they're taking mommy to the hospital to get help. So she can come back home once she's healthy."

"Daddy, what happened? Why was mummy bleeding so much?" Asked Kyle.

    "I don't know, son." I said.

  5. -—Joe
It wasn't even two hours before I got a call. I was pacing when the home phone rang, making me jump out of my skin.

"Hello?" I asked, worried that this call was going to ruin my life.

"Hello, is this Joe Johnson?" Asked the nurse.

"Yes, this is bad news, isn't it?" I asked.

"Actually, no it isn't. You're wife stopped bleeding shortly after she got to the hospital. You wife is alive and we didn't call earlier because we wanted to make sure she was okay before calling. So if you'd like, you can come and get her." She said.

"Yes! I will be there right away!" I said, grabbing my coat and keys. I started walking out the door and Duchess barked and ran to the stairs. Right, Kyle.

    -—Tess

I was only sitting in the waiting room of the hospital for about fifteen minutes before the sliding doors opened and Kyle was in my arms.

"Mummy!" He shouted, running right at me. I got up and picked Kyle up, holding him tight and rocking back and forth.

Joe cleared his throat and I opened my arm, welcoming him into a hug. "I love you both," I said, giving both of them a kiss on their foreheads.

"I love you too," said jack, his eyes still puffy from crying.

"I love you mummy," Kyle said, wrapping his arms tight around my neck.

"Can we go home?" I said. "I hate hospitals."

"Of course," Joe said, wrapping his fingers through mine.

  6. -—Seven Years Later—-

    -—Tess

It's winter now and I stood by the big window in the living room watching Kyke and Joe build a snow man. Its too cold for me—doctor says so— and Duchess to go out out side.

I rubbed my stomach, trying to calm down the little girl that was kicking at my side. I sighed and walked over to the big couch and sat down. "Cmon Dutch." I said, patting the cousin next to me so Duchess knew it was okay for her to climb up.

I picked up the book I had been reading and looked at all the packed boxes that I should start unpacking. We had just moved so we would have room for Tessa. I sighed again and Duchess layed her head in my lap and I tried to read some.

After about five minutes, I got bored so I went upstairs into the room with pink carpets cover in plastic and began painting the designs the walls.

The walls were pale pink and I was painting trees and owls and butterflies and flowers. I got so carried away that I almost finished painting when I heard Kyle come in and say, "Hey mom, what's up?"

Gosh he grew up so fast. I miss how he used to call me mommy. I miss that I always had to get up and check on him or get him back to sleep because he was afraid that the monsters were going to take him again.

I hate that he has a crush on a girl now. I miss my three year old but I still love my ten year old.

"Nothing. Just finishing up painting your sisters room. You miss school yet?" I asked.

"No!" He said, picking up a brush and painting his hand blue. "Hey mom, look!" He said, sticking it in my face.

"Here, come put your handprint on this wall." I said, panting my hand green.

"What about dad's?" He asked, looking at the doorway.

"He'll do it later," I said.

    ࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂࿂

I woke up gasping through gritted teeth. It was chilly with the early spring breeze coming in through the open window.

    I looked at my clock:
    4:57 am

Dutch was whining in the doorway.

    "Joe," I whispered.

    "Uhh..." He grunted.

I got up and grabbed the duffle bag from the closet and started packing a weeks worth of clothes and other junk that I needed.

    "Joe." I said

    "What?" He mumbled.

"Joe. Wake up. It's time." I said, walking over and shaking him.

He sat up, wide awake now. "What?" he said looking at me.

"It's time." I said, pointing at my belly.

"I'll go get Kyle." He said, jumping out of bed and jumping around trying to pull some pants on. Laughed as he fell but then gritted my teeth against the pain that made my stomach go through.

"Right...You do that." I said, rolling my eyes and going downstairs.
