  1. Part 46: Jenna's Point of View

I took a deep breath in and headed downstairs. Owen was sitting in the kitchen, talking to Carter.

"Yeah man! Did you see it when your dad totally stuffed Lebron?" Of course. They're talking about Dad's game from yesterday. Go figure.

Carter laughed and gave Owen a high five. "Yeah! That was hilarious. Dude, he didn't even know what to do!" They both burst out laughing.

Owen's gaze shifted over to the stairs, where I was. He immediately stopped laughing and sat there with his jaw practically on the floor. My cheeks turned a bright shade of red as Carter smacked the back of Owen's head. "Dude, pick your jaw up." He laughed and then looked back at me. "You look great, Jen." Carter complimented.

I smiled. "Thanks Carter." My eyes shifted back to Owen, who seemed to regain his composure.

"You ready?" He asked as he stood up and fixed his jacket. Owen was wearing blue jeans, a black button down, and vans. Very classy. I nodded and he smiled. "Great. Let's go."

I followed out the door and he opened the car door for me. I shot him a thankful smile and he got in. He soon followed by getting into the driver's seat.

He looked over at me with a big grin on his face. "You look very beautiful, Jenna." My cheeks turned a deep shade of red.

"Thanks. You do too." Owen pulled out of the driveway and started down the road.

"What's your favorite number?" He asked randomly, I laughed and turned to look at him.

"10. Why?" He smiled and glanced at me quickly.

Owen shrugged. "I don't know. It's a random question. There doesn't have to be a reason."

"Oh. Well then in that case, what's your favorite number?" I asked, returning the question.

"14." He replied and then glanced at me again. "My number for sports." He explained. "When's your birthday?"

I laughed and looked out at the road. "Why so many questions?"

He shrugged. "I just want to get to know you better." Owen explained. I nodded. "So, when's your birthday?" He asked. Was he going to ask me out?

I shook my head. "No, dad has a game in Texas. Mom is going with him, as she usually does. So it will just be me and Carter." I explained.

Owen nodded. "Do you think that maybe, you might do something with me then? We can do whatever you want." He was nervous. I could sense it in his voice.

I smiled at him, remembering what Mason said. Six months. "Sure, I'd like that."

Owen returned my smile and parked the car. It was only now that I realized we were here. He got out of the car and went to open my door, but I opened it before he could get there.

The movie was really good. Owen stayed true to what my dad said. I mean, he can be pretty intimidating when he wants to be.

Owen pulled up at my house and got out of the car with me to walk me to my door.

"I had a great time tonight." He said with a smile. "Thanks for coming with me."

"I had fun too." I replied.

Owen leaned forward. He wasn't going to kiss me. Was he? No. Mason. He can't.

Owen's lips pressed gently against my cheek. "Good night, Jenna." He said as he pulled away. "I'll see you on Monday?" He asked.

I nodded. "Yeah. You will." He smiled. Man, did he smile a lot.

"Great. I'll see you then, I guess. Bye Jenna." He said as he walked away.

"Good night Owen." I called after him, waving.

The house was dark. And quiet. Someone must be up. It's only 9. Carter must be at Sami's.

I leaned against the closed door and slid down so I was sitting on the floor with my back pressed up against the door.

This isn't right. I shouldn't be doing this. I feel like I'm cheating on Owen. Or, is my heart cheating on Owen? I had no idea. I just felt dirty.

It's not fair to poor Owen. This isn't fair to me. It's not fair that I have to watch Aubree hanging all over Mason and I can't do anything about it. But then again, it wasn't fair for Mason to watch me going on dates with Owen. Even if he did bring this upon himself.

This was all just a big mess. I told myself. Only six months.

He shrugged. "I just want to get to know you better." Owen explained. I nodded. "So, when's your birthday?" He asked again.

"Next week." Owen raised an eyebrow so I continued. "October 10th."

Owen was quiet for a minute. "Do you have any plans for your birthday..?" He asked. Was he going to ask me out?

I shook my head. "No, dad has a game in Texas. Mom is going with him, as she usually does. So it will just be me and Carter." I explained.

  9. Part 47: Mason's Point of View

I left Aubree's house early, around 8:30. But right after I left, I felt that emptiness in my heart again. Reminding me that I don't have her. She's not mine. But I have to see her, she's like my drug.

I checked my watch. 9:05. Maybe Jenna is home by now. Well, I'll never know if I don't try.

There was a light on in the house that I immediately recognized as her room. My eyes frantically searched the ground for pebbles to throw at her window. There one is. My eyes were skillfully adjusted to the dim lighting around me.

I lightly tossed a pebbly at her window. No answer. "Duck." I said under my breath. I tried again. No answer. Third time is a charm. This time a head peeked out of the window.

"Hello?" Her voice came out softly. I stood in the dark, waiting to see what she would do. "Seriously? Ugh. Whatever." Jenna went to close the window.

"Jenna wait!" I came out of the shadows.

"Mason?" She asked cautiously, as if she didn't know my voice, "What are you doing here?"

I searched my mind for something charming. Her prince charming. "Rapunzel, Rapunzel. Let down your hair." I called up. A chuckle escaped my lips as I saw her glare down at me. "I'm kidding, Heaven. Can you unlock the back door?"

"My parents are asleep." She said.

    "I'll be quiet." I promised.

Jenna vanished from the window and about a minute later she reappeared downstairs, opening the back door for me. I quickly walked into the house and right upstairs to her room.

For some reason all of the rooms in the house were soundproof, so no one could hear anything.

Jenna came in after me and shut the door behind her. "Why are you here, Mason?" She asked.

I was leaning against her desk, playing with my fingers. "I wanted to see you." I stated simply. She nodded and sat down on her bed. "How was your .. date?" It killed me to say that.

Jenna smiled small to herself. Oh shiet. It was a good date. "It was great." She replied. "We went to the movies, and we just talked. It was really nice." I winced at her expression on her face. It looked like she really did have a good time. "How is Aubree?" Jenna asked. Wait, what?

"What - ? I -" Jenna shook her head and interrupted me.

"I know you Mason. You needed a distraction so you got laid. It's how you function." She looked hurt. I can't help but know that I caused that. I hate myself.

"Oh." I said. What else is there to say?

"Conversation killer number 19." She said softly.

"I'm sorry." I whispered. I meant it too. I hate hurting her. But I can't stop myself. It's like a whole separate part of me takes over.

She shrugged. "It's okay. We're not together so I can't hold it against you." That ripped my heart in half. Why was I such an {insert bad word here}?

"Can I stay for a while?" I asked randomly. I want to talk to her, just be around her.

Jenna looked up from her own fingers and her eyes gazed into mine. "Sure." She said. "What do you want to do?"

I thought for a moment. Well, Heaven." A smirk grew on my face. "If we're being completely honest, I would really like to kiss you."
