Most of those points are pure conjecture lol, I refer you back to my comments on capital flight on page 1.
@barcode That's a fair point, and I admittedly don't know much about capital flight. However, I have no belief in the fact that companies will pull out entirely from a country who has the makings of being a wealthy and prosperous country. Not exactly sound financial investment. Most of these arguments about companies and banks pulling out of Scotland are just fear mongering. Lloyds TSB said they would move their headquarters down to London.. Salmond pointed out that their headquarters are already in London Look either way, their are flaws on both sides and you can poke holes wherever you so desire. And the end of the day it's down to who and what you believe. What's meant to be, will be.
Royal bank of Scotland will be moving to London to on a yes vote, they have a mini city within Edinburgh at the moment with their HQ there, that will certainly be a blow to Scotland
Its more about investors and savers. Do you think people with savings in scottish banks are going to keep them there? Or investments in scottish companies? Markets hate uncertainty and as soon as that bites its a downward spiral
I'm sure the people they employ, and those that benefit from the tax revenues those they employ pay may feel otherwise
I'm not saying it's going to be a Utopia, there will be sacrifices. And where companies leave, new ones will take their place. There are too many investment opportunities in Scotland for people to blacklist it - which is basically what you're saying, not to mention the 2 year negotiating period where all these kinks will be ironed out. Again, as I said, I don't listen to fear mongering ?
Dodger what investment opportunities are these if you don't mind sharing? If there are so many opportunities, surely we would have taken advantage of them by now.
Well obviously there is the biggie with North Sea Oil, then renewable energy, food industry, tourist industry, etc. are all booming areas of taxable revenue. There are probably other areas, we are perfectly capable of being a self sustaining country. We have been taking advantage of it, however it's been going into Westminster's pockets and not ours.
By the way I am in no way shape or form an economist, or a spokesperson for the yes campaign so please bare in mind I'm not expert ? I just look for myself and listen to what I'm being told just like I'm sure everyone here does, yes or no alike. We just choose who we believe and who we don't. I know I can't trust Westminster anymore, and the list of who to turn to is depleting by the minute. I have faith in my country that we could do this, and nothing said here will sway my vote, and it's unlikely anything I say will sway yours either. I just hope whatever the outcome, it's the best thing for Scotland.
Independent Scotland is the way forward, we need to get rid of Westminster, if Scotland votes no, just think how Westminster will treat us...
