"Sh-tty Jews. Hurry and work!!!" The soldier screamed as I shoveled away at the dirt.

So this was how I would live my last moments.

Starving. Exhausted. Emotionally Distraught. Degraded. Used.

We were nothing more than toys. I remember last week, they tied a sickly old man to a horse's leg, and let the horse beat him to death with his hooves.

I had been here a month already, and the watering truck came once every Sunday, but I had since lost track of the days and time.

Maybe it was the fact that I had promised Issac to return to our refugee, or my will to find out if his family really was dead.

I couldn't tell. I just kept on going.

    That day was different though.

"Boy!!!! Pick up your feet!!! I'll send you to death!!! Get up!!!" The Nazi screeched and jumped from his horse. He began beating someone.

"Get up you filth. You lower than dirt piece of sh-t!!" He was beating a child, no more than nine years of age.

I recognized him as Jacobi, Jedadiahs youngest brother..

It was then that a tall old man stepped out of the crowd and hit the Nazi in his face with the shovel he had.

The soldiers nose was bleeding, and badly broken.

"Give me that shovel you disgusting mutt!" Shouted the Nazi soldier.

    The scream was blood curdling.

I glanced out of the corner of my eye, and there lay the Jacobi, half decapitated, and the old man, bludgeoned on the ground.
Pools of dirt and mud mingled on the ground.

Next thing I heard was that oh so familiar voice screaming,
    "YOU BAST-RD!!!!"

"Jedadiah.." I whispered, then began screaming as I ran towards him.

My arm was grabbed by a younger boy, who pulled on me tightly. "Stop! They'll shoot you!!"

"J-Jed-" I whispered as I fell back into my place.

The Nazis were so busy beating him, they didn't notice me.

    I heard him screaming.

Another piece of my heart, gone.

    Dead.

    Jedadiah, Issac. Who was next?

"Take it to the pit. Maybe burn him. Haha! Insolent Jew." The Nazi laughed and stared at me.

    "Get to work you dog!"

I dilegently started working, and saved my tears for the night.

Work ended. I traveled back to the barracks, and sat in the floor.

Lice ate away at my skin, and sores tore at my skull. My hair was growing back, I looked like a boy. I was still starved, but the nagging pain in my stomach was typical... I looked at my arm.. I was nothing more than a number. .
I was nothing. I was dirt.

    Pain.

The kind that towers over you like a cloud. It's there, but you can't reach it, you cannot stop it. The stings from the lightening, the pounding of rain. It feels endless. Like a reverse drought. It's always raining....

    Emotional, Physical, Deadly Pain.

That's all I felt, besides a burning hatrid towards everything that moved.

Jedadiah. Beaten to death before me.

He promised he'd get out alive with me. He promised dammit.

I felt deep pain, deep lingering pain.

I remember thinking, why live, when Issac is so close?

    Just a final breath away.

They both promised safety, but now I had to depend on myself for safety now.

I made a promise to keep myself safe then. Promised to be selfish, just to live. Just to kill a few Nazi b-stards to avenge them.

Then I whispered quietly to myself, hoping he could hear.
"I love you Issac Stern. I'm coming back to you soon.. I promise."

"Get up! The watering Truck is here!" I heard a woman above me, shaking me.

".....thank you." I muttered, as I pulled myself off the ground. It was Sunday.

Sunday meant water, but it also meant hard labor day. The Nazis didn't want us to stay hydrated.

"Next!" A German man, not a soldier, stood filling up whatever Jews couuld use to keep water.

"Next!" He shouted, but I could see the pain in his eyes at the sight of everything.

This man, gave me hope in humanity.

As I neared him, holding out only my two hands to drink from, his eyes weakened, and he gave me a canteen, secretly.

I looked at him in awe, and mustedered up a small "Bless you."

I drank feverishly, until I was pushed to the ground, with my water stolen from my hands.

"Hey!!!" I screamed after the woman, but she ran quickly.

I had to have to dehydrate, to save another person. Then, I felt pride in myself.

To save another person. Atleast for another day.

    To save a life.

Just like Issac did for me.

I thought then of how selfish I was, to stay alive, even though I knew others needed life as much as I did.

Because maybe, just maybe, they had someone to meet after they were freed.

Just like I was supposed to meet Issac, maybe someone else had a loved one to finally touch for the first time in months.

Then I realized, others lives were just as important as mine.

I could save someone, with one small act of kindness.
