  5. "Jared?" Emily was sitting at a small, elegant table by the only window in the room.

"Yes?" Jared looked up from the book he had been reading for quite some time.

    "How long has it been?"

"Six months," He replied without emotion.

"And they still haven't reached a verdict?"

"No, they haven't even caught the would-be assassin. The court can have a long process, considering the evidence," Jared stated.

He heard a short, muffled moan from Emily before returning to his book.

"I want to get out of here," She complained.

"Where would we go?" Jared questioned.

"I don't know, run away to a forest? Another village?" Emily thought.

"Sounds tempting," Jared chuckled, "Of course, I'd come with you."

"Really? I mean, as long as you don't act as my tutor..." Emily trailed off.

"Maybe I could act as your lover?" Jared wondered aloud.

Leaving Emily staring at him from across the room. Speechless.

  9. "Thank you, Cynthia," Lady Elizabeth said firmly to the blonde haired maid, observing the deep violet dress that Cynthia claimed she had sewn together herself. She pet the silk-like fabric, admiring it's softness.

"You're very welcome, Lady Elizabeth," Cynthia tilted her head for a short bow, blushing.

"Alright, next one!" Lillian called, pushing her way to the front of the maids, holding out a box wrapped with a silk cloth and tied together with a lavender ribbon.

"I wonder what it is!" Lady Elizabeth exclaimed freely. If she were in public, like she was the previous three hours, she wouldn't have said something as 'selfish' as royalty would call it. But Elizabeth had come to know, and even began to become quite fond of her three maids, to the extent that she could call them friends.

"Open it up then!" Lillian grinned proudly. Lady Elizabeth delicately untied the ribbon and unwound the silk cloth from the small, black box inside and, with the same delicacy, lifted the cover from the box to find a beautiful, jewel encrusted comb. It had to be worth thousands of dollars.

"Thank you!" Lady Elizabeth tried to act stunned. To tell you the truth, she had had enough beauty for a day. For a life.

"This one's from Emily, the guards have already checked it over, so it should be safe," Delilah stated in her quiet voice. She was holding a package wrapped in a small, white blanket and tied with a maroon ribbon. It was rather chunky and misshapen.

Lady Elizabeth ripped it out of Delilah's hands without hesitation. She opened it, placing the blanket on her bed and wrapping the ribbon around her wrist.

Inside it was a small, brown stuffed rabbit with a light green bow around it's neck. It was nothing special, but Lady Elizabeth immediately loved it more than all off her presents today combined.

She discovered a card between the bow and the ribbon's neck. As she opened it, she read: Happy 12th birthday, dear sister.
