Revamp tutor/pupil relationship

Discussion in 'Questions/Feedback' started by Priapos, Jan 9, 2024.

  1. We are sensitive when it comes to issues but this is not harassment, Iโ€™m just here to help you and make situations more clear so you understand the game better. If that comes across as insensitive then Iโ€™m sorry, I donโ€™t know how else to explain it to you

  2. Fact of the game is war exists daily. People get attacked hundreds if not thousands of times a day. Just coz it happens on hame and not in real life it doesnt mean its not a fact.

I think you should spend some time away from technology to understand the difference between the internet and real life before returning to the internet world

  3. This thread is a gotdang mess.

  4. I agree with your sentiment that there should be mentorship in the game
and also understand why you would expect the pupil-tutor relationship to be a place where that's encouraged
but I feel it can be achieved in a better way than this.

I more strongly favour an open and unrestricted tutor market than mentorship initiatives.

  5. Honestly, I would like something to tell me if the tutor genuinely wants to learn how to play. Something like that to find noobs who are serious about playing.

  6. Tbh theres a massive tutorial now to teach all the basics of every mechanic in the game. Ata has added a fuck load of guidance to the game including a bunch of free shit for a starting boost

  7. It's always disappointing at how many new players just aren't interested in the actual game. I like helping new players, but it can be discouraging when sometimes it feels like a waste of time. Sometimes it feels more helpful to make impersonal guides in forums for people to seek out if they want to learn than put intense effort into a one-on-one mentorship.

  8. Finally someone giving an appreciative feedback at least and not deriding my suggestions. Thanks for that.
If you think there is a better way to tutor/pupil feature, do you have any suggestions you like to post here?
And whatever... ATA deperately needs to find a way to reduce the amount of harassment within this Game.

  9. I don't wonder new players are loosing interest in playing this game, if they are grossed out. That's exactly what I wanted to say with my post. Several players who started with me left PIMD due to harassment, insulting, and farming or a combination of all repectively...

  10. Farming is not harassment its part of the game. If you dont like pvp then dont play a pvp game. Simple as that

  11. Yeah, I stopped teaching new players awhile back. I'd ask if they need any help or want to learn how to play and if they said yes, I'd give them tips on how the game works. More often than not, I didnt see them heed any of my advice and I see them in a rp club.

  12. There could be a section on one's profile where new players can give you a 5-star rating and leave a comment about the quality of your mentorship. Something like Rate my professor.

Perhaps there could be some way to encourage clubs to invite smaller players. Currently it hurts the club's ranking.
Perhaps they could remove the $$ cap on profit from volleying (which is currently 1m) so new players can get a more meaningful benefit from being volleyed by larger players.

There are more ideas but eh. Devs have never acted on them when brought up in the past.

PIMD is a hostile environment. It should be even more hostile than it currently is. It is basically a bloodbath simulator at its core.

  13. Farming is simply them not understanding what the game entailed, since that is a basic game feature. I think it's important to teach new players how to handle farming -- hiding your money, fighting back, et cetera. That being said, a PvP game isn't for everyone.

I do agree however that being "grossed out" by Pub antics is something that needs to be handled. It was not this bad when I joined (almost) 6 years ago. ATA got too lax on allowing roleplay requests, which is where the core of the issue lies imo. There are things like turning off Pub chat and blocking players that can help mitigate the issue, but for every account blocked, banned, or silenced, like 10 more pop up. And it can be very demoralizing to see some of the requests that pop up in chat. Particularly if you are a survivor of sexual violence.

  14. I would agree that "pub antics" has affected more people leaving the game than the pvp aspect has, at least from the interactions I've had with newer players. And it is the #1 reason why any of my friends from other games/irl have not joined me here.
Besides the "antics" these sugar momma scammers are also really grating the nerves. I know they've infiltrated the whole internet at this point, but it's even worse than the usual random nub accounts adds we used to get. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

  15. I almost left the game on my first or second day after seeing someone asking for zoophilia in the chat, because it grossed me out so bad. Luckily for me that was the only post I saw, so I decided to stick around. I can't imagine if I joined nowadays. I've grown a thick skin about it, but new players seem to have less tolerance and for the right reasons. No other MMO game I play has this bad of a problem. We need more mods and stricter rules regarding roleplay posts. Tons of them aren't against the rules yet are still gross -- somehow it's allowed to ask for little girls if you slap an 18+ at the end of it but we all know damn well they don't mean it.

Pub chat is fun and lowkey once you're able to look past the pub antics but understandably a lot of people are inable to do that. The social aspect of this game is very important and Pub chat does play a part in that. As a new player who hasn't found a good club atmosphere or a friend group etc, Pub chat can be a valuable asset and there's no reason they should need to look past 50 million pests asking for borderline incest and shit.

  16. I think you joined before world and pub were separated, yeah? It seemed like there were less gross requests, but they may just have been drowned by ads. Pub was a good concept, but I do agree it could use more moderation. Pub can be fun when conversations are actually happening. It would be nice to see it moderated more often. Perhaps even have moderators encouraging better topics on a regular basis. Maybe new users wouldn't be so intimidated/grossed out if it seemed like those wilder/borderline illegal requests were more the exception and not the norm.

  17. Yes, I joined late January 2018 and they were separated in I believe June of that year. But even early Pub days didn't seem as horrendous as it is now. Feels like it gets worse as time goes on. And totally agree -- I stayed because I realized that gross post I saw was not the norm and was an exception. I think a lot of new players get the feel that gross posts are normal and not the exception, and it doesn't help that most clubs catering to new players are also RP-based so it's like there's no escape. And unfortunately I don't blame higher stat players for not running clubs for noobs, as that requires a lot of effort and also requires sacrificing some of your own growth or desired gameplay too. The idea of the Starter Club was a good idea for helping noobs get their feet off, but poorly implemented.

I feel like I could go on a tangent! Every thought I have brings up another. Everything effects everything on here.

  18. Same. And tbh now i barely even do that. Sometimes i get people sent my way for help on stuff and i will help them. But i dont go out of my way to do anything anymore

  19. It was expected for pub to be used for rp and r18 based stuff coz people wanted it out of campus. But everyone just decided to move their convos into pub as well instead of staying in campus chat like what was expected would happen

  20. Oddly enough, I took a peek at Pub chat's announcement post and it appears 18+ / adult content was still against the rules upon its release. I think slowly over time ATA loosened things to allow more 18+ related posts (namely RP) with their silencing updates (in 2019 and 2021). Although I think the posts in Pub asking for adult content definitely pre-dated rules being loosened. I think maybe they loosened the rules to make it easier on mods trying to moderate. But like I told Victoria, I definitely do think Pub was a lot tamer for at least the first couple of months of its inception.
