  1. Not that the devil is in pagan religions but that the current catholic view of the devil is influenced by pagan and other religious stories and customs. You have to remember that the roman empire persecuted Christianity or Christians and then when Catholicism was reintroduced to people many catholic traditions stem from other religious beliefs.

  2. Pagan. Capital P.

What I'm saying, is where did you find this information, tying in Paganism into the created symbol of red, horns and tail for the devil? Because I have never once found any text relaying that description, because the devil is rarely, if ever mentioned. Why would we care enough to think up that description, when we don't even believe in the existance.

  3. There's no actual description for satan.

Angels there are some. Like those baby angels. Why is it a baby? Their description is head of an eagle, lion,ox and human. Their wings are covered in eyes.

  4. But Gav3eb, maybe you're confusing yourself with the origions of the texts, and calling it Paganism.

Doing some quick research right now themoorings.org said that the classic image of the devil stemmed from medieval lore, the Faust legend calling him Mephistophe.

Or it is thought that the image may have origionated from Pan, the Greek God of nature and goat hearders, a fertility god.

  5. You can look it up on Wikipedia if you want a quick online reference but you should really go to a library and search various religious encyclopedia's. The depiction of the devil with horns and such is based off of pagan gods molek, pan, cernunnos and a few others I can't remember. Pagans themselves of course don't reference the devil bit catholic representation of his appearance is influenced by pagan beliefs.

The bible does reference Satan, the devil, the serpent, and a few other names for him pretty often but never delves into his appearance other than that he was a beautiful angel. Beyond that the book of revelations describes him as a wild beast and also like a multi headed dragon but revelations is all symbolism so that's not an accurate depiction

  6. Really not matter how you look at it though the accepted view of what the devil looks like with horns snd hooves snd a pitchfork is not from any of the books of the bible

  7. Although you are right to because as I said both pagan and other religions teachings and customs have been worked into the catholic religion

  8. Deviants is right though. Angels are described that way and really aren't that beautiful and if you look at a real depiction fitting that description, or you try draw an angel based on that it will come out pretty damn ugly.

  9. And scary.

That phrase don't be scared makes sense now

  10. What do you mean? How are angels described that you think they would be scary? Also, again if you read and study the bible Satan was not immediately thrown out of heaven, he was still present when the testing of Job occurred and the book of revelations describes the war in heaven when Satan is finally cast out of heaven

  11. Satan is presented as ugly and evil because he was a fallen angel. When they refer to him as ulgy it's not his looks it's how he acts. In catholic btw

  12. They describe some angels in the bible. Some angels don't appear as human. Imagine if a cherubim appears to you.

Would you get scared at first?

  13. Well simply fox I can agree with saying his actions and personality are ugly but I think the original poster was asking for a physical description in which case the bible does not support artists representations of him being physically ugly or a monster

  14. Actually most of the angels appear in the form of a man, like the angels that appeared to Lot and his family. They did not even know they were angels when they took them into their homes. Same with the angel I believe it was Jacob wrestled with. He appeared as a normal man.

  15. When angels are in their true form they are how Deviants described angels, and it is also how the Torah describes angels.

  16. I will give you the cherubs one, that would be a bit strange to see but the description of a cherub is in a vision not a literal face to face on earth

  17. i say ugly soul ugly everything.

  18. What about a seraphim?

  19. True a seraphim have I believe 6 wings and eyes all around and also I believe burning fire but again it's not described in menacing way in the bible and then their are the archangels like michael that have no specific description

  20. I've heard Mariah Carrey has an ugly soul but I wouldn't say the rest of her is lol

Yep a Mariah Carrey shout out is pretty random
