I woke up with a gasp, snapping my eyes open. It was pitch black. I blinked again to clear my vision, and it didn't change. The room truly was so dark I couldn't see. That, or I was blind. I tried to move my hands, but they were kept behind my back. Some guards must've used metal restraints this time. The chains jingled in protest at my efforts to break free. "Dammit..." I muttered. Suddenly, a loudspeaker crackled, and Dr. Hathoway's voice filled the room. "I see you're awake, Rose." "Where the hell am I?!" I shouted "Solitary Confinement. This is part of treatment, until you're fit to be with the others." "What do you"- A piercing screech came from the speaker, and I jumped. It sounded as if a microphone was being put next to the speaker. The noise was continuous, and I couldn't block my ears with my hands, no matter how hard I struggled. With one final tug at the chains, I slipped from the cot and onto the cold, concrete floor. My head pounded, I couldn't get up, and my nose was bleeding from the floor's impact. Tears streaming down my face, I started to sob. "Stop... please!" The noise got louder. "Please! Just shut it off! I'll be good! I'M SORRY!" I screamed. The noise stopped. And the door opened.
