  5. The next day, Jason got out of treatment. The only reason I knew because of the way everyone suddenly quieted down in the hallway. Looking up, I saw him exiting Dr. Hathoway's office. He looked fine to me, but the others whispered.
    "He's back..."
"Do you think he'll relapse again?"
"Well what set him off that time?"
They shot looks at me, and awkwardly shuffled away.
"Yeah... he'll relapse again." a guy snickered.
I ignored their jokes, despite the intense longing to rip their tongues out so they could never talk again. That would set a major example. But... I would probably be put in Solitary Treatment. And no matter how curious I was, I didn't want to find out what happens there. At least not now.
I walked over to Jason, greeting him with a smile. His was a strained half smile, and his eyes were cold.
    "What's wrong...?" I asked.
    Jason locked eyes with me.
"Ask Dr. Hathoway. You have a visitor." he said irritatedly.
I hesitantly headed in the direction of the office. At the last second, I held Jason's hand; I wanted to be prepared for any visitors I had. Jason followed along without a word.
Flinging the door open, I saw Dr. Hathoway look up in pleasant surprise.
    "Rose! Guess who's here?"
Getting up from a chair, Matthew smiled at me, his eyes glistening in the harsh lighting. Smiling back, unsure of what to do next, I squeezed Jason's hand in reassurance, and he gently squeezed back.
Matthew's smile died down a bit as he saw the exchange of hand-squeezing between Jason and I.
    "So, who's this, Rose?"
"I'm Jason. Her boyfriend." Jason said simply, pulling me to his side.
Matthew's expression changed completely, to a look of shock. And utter despair. Matthew looked so upset that I bit my tongue to keep from crying.
"Rose… please tell me he's lying."
"I... I'm sorry Matthew, but, it wouldn't work out between us anyways. You're normal, and I'm not."
"But I love you!" he choked.
    Jason shot him a glare.
"If you loved her, she wouldn't be in here." he hissed.
"What are you talking about?!" Matthew said defensively.
"You could've saved her from this place. You knew the cops were coming to her house that night. And you did nothing."
    "I had to follow orders...."
"That chief did the opposite by shooting her."
"Look! I love her, and I've stayed by her even when she killed all those people!" he shouted.
"I love her, and I can actually stay with her. Since you're not admitted here."

Matthew's eyes narrowed a bit. It was true, though, he couldn't stay with me. Jason, on the other hand, could. Jason's arm slid from my waist to jab a finger in Matthew's direction.
"So why don't you just realize; she's over you."
"I'll never get over her! You're just some, controlling"-
"I'm hardly controlling. She kissed me first." he said smugly.
I blushed in embarrassment. Also in pleasure at the memory, but why would I let anyone know that?
Matthew marched up to Jason. He was taller, but Jason somehow looked more capable of damage. Dr. Hathoway got up from her desk.
    "Calm down you two..."
"Tell him to calm down. I'm perfectly fine." Jason said.
"No you're not. You're insane." Matthew snapped.
"Are you sure you wanna go there?" Jason asked, easily grabbing a pair of scissors from the desk. Matthew only smirked.
    "I'm a trained cop."
"And I'm criminally insane." he retorted, arching an eyebrow.
Matthew's eyes shone with angry tears, and his fist shot out. Jason avoided it in a fluid, graceful movement. It was an intricate combination of Matthew's attacks and Jason's dodges.
Dr. Hathoway pulled me back, her walkie talkie at her mouth. She was speaking fervently, that she needed assistance in her office. My heart raced, an intense pounding in my ears. What if they hurt each other?
Matthew stopped his advances, his face a little pink with the effort. That, and it was obvious he was extremely upset.
"What? Are you tired?" Jason taunted.
"No... I just realized how much you look like me." Matthew said. Then a slow smile spread across his lips. "Do you know what that means?"
    "What?" Jason cautiously asked.
"Whenever she's with you, she'll think of me."
Realization hit Jason's features. He already knew that Matthew was right, I've called Jason by the wrong name twice before.
    "That means nothing..."
"It means everything. She'll never think of just you, I'll be in her thoughts. Always."
Angered, Jason's eyes grew dark almost immediately, rage boiling behind them. His fists clenched and unclenched, and since he was holding the scissors incorrectly, he cut his hands. This reminded me of the scene that I wanted to forget altogether.
"Just, shut up! SHUT UP!" Jason shouted, lunging for Matthew.
I stopped breathing, my hand flying to my mouth. Jason brought the scissors down.
And stabbed Matthew in the chest.
