I’m so glad you wrote this. I had no idea what half of them meant, some of them seem like old slurs and some seemed made up. Thanks Kitten for clearing things up
Im sorry but its confusing for us straight people. For example Kitten said that Queer is a slur but my lesbian friend calls herself Queer all the time. So i think its alright to use that word but now im being told its offensive. ygm?
It’s a personal preference type of thing. I call myself and my lgbt+ friends queer because we’re okay with it and we want to put a positive mean on the word. However, some people still use queer like they do with the word f-ggot. Using it to harass others isn’t as common as it used to be, but it still happens. That’s why some people don’t like the use of the word.
So its best to just steer clear of the word unless the person uses it themself ? Honestly never knew people used Queer in a negative way.
Maybe its different in the uk? ? Like most people i've met around where i live are okay with the term and a lot of people are accepting of the lgbtq+ community. Or maybe i just surround myself with good people ? But then again im not part of the lgbtq+ community so i cant really comment much
It is reclaimed here a lot by the LGBT community, but I also have it used as a slur. I'm in the city, but out in rural/country areas it's more common to use it. Cities tend to be more left-leaning, and if you are not the targeted minority or a homophobe yourself you probably wouldn't know it as a slur.
Thats true. Also may be why more people arent aware. But honestly people need to grow up. Like we are supposed to be the smartest beings and we still cant get past simple things like sexuality. I have no hope for humanity
