Also, when they buy new dorms, you get a little money. Your pupil is the person who hires you. You can talk to him/her (and your tutors) through Tutor Chat. Every time you get hired, you get money, limited at $1 million per hire.

The latter us true to a certain extent. A more expensive tutor will help you earn more fighting until you hit max plunder. As for your first question, they are no different than active tutors except that they are less likely to be hired.
