It's refreshing to have a topic like this in pimd.Anyway here are my thoughts : The old generations have some sort of indirect responsibilities to what our new generations have become. It is the adults responsibilities to correct undesirable behavious at an early age before it becomes part of their being. We are the teachers of our new generations. As teachers, we can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspirations. We have the power to humanised or dehumanised a child. If we want better things for our children then we should demand better things for them. In simpler words, they are only what they are right now because of what we let them to be. The "desensitization" of our youths as you refer it is not entirely new. However, it has seeped into almost every aspect of our culture. I remember when I was a kid, the shows I watched were always controlled by my parents. Nevertheless, it was enough during my generation also known as Generation Y. However, shielding your kids from tv shows with violence and profanity is not sufficient anymore. The youths of today are exposed to subtleties of sex, violence, drugs, profanity and uninspiring values that are our self-adsorbed culture have accepted. My point is, let's not be very critical of the youths of today.Let us be critical of the older generations who raised them and allowed them to be exposed to all these things. They only have become increasingly desensitized to the point that it become embedded in our culture because we let them be exposed to R-rated movies and music and violence. They have become callused and unaffected by the crazy world around us because we let them. However, the irony is...those teens are probably the ones who will survive in the fast-paced,cruel and dog-eat-dog future society we have created for them.
Re: People I hate this generation and I believe it will get worse with the next generation, all I see is 12 years old kids looking like wannabe swaggers with Hitech phones. Men aren't gentleman as they used to be, i'm the only one left on this planet... When i'm in the bus, no one gives the old ladies or old man their seats, when I see someone that needs a seat, I give them mine -.- . I hate everything.
Maybe you should teach them how to be awesome like yourself Kaname. If you don't lead them the way, then obviously they would go astray. Who give them high tech phones and limitless access to www?
Great points Kathryn & Kaname So are we not teaching future generations well or are we teaching them things like this? Should it be acceptable or not? Are we lossing grasp of what we should be passing down to each young person we cross?
I personally think a lot of it comes down to peer pressure. Kids these days will do almost anything just 2 fit in. It also depends where u grow up some areas expose u 2 different things and it makes u behave different.
^right. I have a classmate. She have a notebook that have quotes that will encourage her to fit in. I was like "uhhmm kay" -_-
Its like u have 2 choices.. u can either fit in with the image society has created or don't and probably just get bullied for it.
