  3. Adam's POV

"I can't move much like this, let alone fight. You have to protect me." I said looking at her directly in the eye.

    "Oh, great." She said sarcastic.

"You didn't by any chance check for weapons in the security room?" I asked curiously.

"No." She said looking disappointed in herself.

"Ugh, okay. Let's go." I said as I got up, staggering.

I followed her with a stagger the whole time to the security room, the pain was almost too much. But the adrenaline kept me going. We got to the security, and I leaned against the outside wall keeping watch.

"Nothing! And these drawers are locked." She said tugging on drawers.

I stepped inside, and kicked the drawer with enough strength to break the drawer lock. I fell over backward in pain, but we got a pistol so it was worth it.

"Here, you take it." She said putting it in my hand.

"But, don't you need it?" I asked her, holding it out.

"Not as much as you do." She said looking at my wound.

"There has gotta be more weapons around here." I said looking at the security lockers around.

"They're all locked." She said disappointed.

I took the gun off safety, and shot three lockers open. The gun held 11 bullets, I had eight left. But searching the lockers we found about three more full clips.

"Okay, there are two more. One of them has to have something." I said, before shooting them open.

In one I found a shotgun, must be the head of security's shotgun. He won't be needing it, since he's probably dead. I handed it to Amanda, she took it hesitantly.

"Can you handle it?" I asked.

"I guess... Can we switch?" She asked hopefully.

"No. I can't take the kickback on it right now." I said pointing to my wound.

I put the three extra clips in my duffelbag. I zipped it shut, and put it over my shoulder. Amanda checked the ammo on the shotgun. It had 6 shells, and we had no extras.

    "Use it wisely." I warned.

"Will do, boss." She said mocking my orders.

I was still walking with a stagger, down the hallways. I had an idea, and decided to try it. I shot one of the glass doors.

"Damn it! Bullet-proof glass!" I exclaimed putting my hand free hand into a fist.

"Bad luck for us, eh?" She said nodding to the situation.

"Good actually, depending on how you look at it." I cracked a slight smile, so did she.

"Okay, Mr. Optimistic. What now?" She asked giving me her full attention.

"Well, since all doors are on lockdown, I don't know. The whole town is infected if no one came by now. The security system is broken, with no way to deactivate it. We have to wait it out." I said, bringing reality crashing down over hope.

"****!" She exclaimed, turning around and pacing with anger.

  9. Amanda's POV

I paced around in anger and swore. How long were we going to have to wait? I looked behind us to make sure nothing was there. Empty. That's when I thought of something.

"Adam... Your going to hate me..." I said with a frown on my face.

Adam looked at me puzzled "Why?"

I sighed and ran my hand through my hair. I then stuck it in my pocket and pulled out my cell phone. "I just remembered we could have called or tried to at least to get a hold of someone!"

Adam looked at me pissed. I raised my hands. "Hey! In my defence I worried more about our lives then my cell phone." Adam nodded and gestured to me. "Try it"

I nodded and turned my phone on. I texted my mom asking her if she was okay. I waited no reply. I then texted my dad, brother and cousin... Still no reply.

Adam looked at me "Well?" I shake my head in sorrow. He sighed and looked at his feet. "Are focus right now is to get out of here... Alive and not infected..."

I nodded my head in agreement and looked at the security room. I then looked at my shotgun and Adam's pistol. A smile tugged at my lips.

We were equipped now with guns and still had other weapons. If we were careful, smart and maybe could find others. We could get out of this.

We had guns, but limited ammo. Our journey had just begun however. We walked, her leading the way with me dragging myself behind by holding onto walls. I hurt horribly, and hoped the pain would subside.

"I have to go to the bathroom." I said, not actually needing to go, but wanting to rest.

"Hurry it up." She said before laying down her shotgun, and sitting by the bathroom I entered.

I limped in, and heard the heavy door shut behind me as the bathroom echoed the sound. I staggered to the sink and sat on top of it. I relaxed, sitting up against the mirror, breathing heavily.

I heard a slight cry, and I realized it was coming from a stall in the bathroom. It sounded like a woman. Either a parasite trying to lure me in, or a survivor that freaked out and ran into the bathroom.

I stepped off the counter, and slowly walked bracing the pain, and slowly opened the stall, aiming my pistol inside. Finally losing patience and slamming it open. There stood a tall woman at about 5'9".

She had brown hair, a pale complexion, and a speckled face. She also had thick glasses that took up a lot of her face. In other words, she wasn't all that pretty. But she was alive.

I put the pistol I was holding into my duffel bag, and rushed to her. She looked at me fearfully with tears coming from her eyes. She instantly clung to me.

"You're alive! I haven't seen a breathing, living person in so long!" She said, clinging tightly to me. I pushed her off, because it hurt with her on me. "Oh my! You're badly hurt!" She had a purple purse, and she started digging through it.

I could tell she had many items, because I could hear them all jingle around. She pulled out a white bottle, with a medical patch covering the front.

"Painkillers." She said, handing me the bottle.

"I am not supposed to be taking this without a prescription, but if they help, what the hell, right?" I said before opening the bottle, rushing to the sink, and swallowing the pill after filling my mouth with water.

I limped out of the bathroom, with the girl behind me. Amanda darted her eyes between us, and just started walking forward. I felt the painkillers starting to work, it was a funny feeling, but my pain went away.

I started walking without my stagger, and stopped to thank the girl. "Thanks"- "KeyRa, KeyRa Mel." She said, letting me know her name.

"Thanks KeyRa, I'm Adam." I said before I started walking again. Amanda didn't look so happy about our new friend.
