Chapter 2: Hangover Josh My eyes slowly and lazily opened. Sunlight streamed into my eyes. Immediately, I thrust my hand up to stop the hurting ray of light. Then the pain hit me. My head throbbed. I put both my hands onto my forehead, and I groaned in pain. My blurry eyesight had returned to normal now, and I saw Jodiiee walk out of a bathroom. "Where are we?" I inquired "The Inn, of course." she replied sharply. "Arggh dammit. Hangover. Got any aspirins?" "Yeah, but go wash up first! You reek of alcohol!" Jodiiee laughed. Slowly sitting upright, I reluctantly got up from the spotless, white sheets of the bed. I was disoriented, but somehow, I managed to make my way to the washroom. Turning on the heater, I took of my clothes and blasted water onto myself. Cold water splashed onto me an I was immediately alert. Obviously the heater wasn't working. I cursed under my breath. All of a sudden, I heard a loud scream from the room. I swiftly grabbed a tower, wrapped it around my waist and ran out of the washroom. Jodiiee sat there, next to the floor to ceiling window, clutching her shins, sibling loudly. I went up and consoled her. "Outside..." she whimpered. I pulled the curtains aside and the sight that awaited me, was terrifying indeed.
Josh The roads were filled with bodies, car wrecks and burning fires. Bodies lay sprawled in contorted positions and cars were smashed up beyond recognition. There was no sign of life whatsoever. This was an apocalypse. Rubble lay strewn over the road and black smoke billowed from the bonnets of the automobiles. Changing back into my clothes, I took Jodiiee's hand and opened the door of our room. A pungent smell hit us like a hard-packed punch. It drove the air out of us. We slowly and cautiously made our way down the steep flight of wooden stairs, carefully stepping over bodies. Their faces were not exactly what it was before. Everyone's face was distorted and twisted, and in some, totally missing. All if them lay in pools of line green blood, instead of the usual crimson. This took us by surprise. We were overwhelmed with trepidation. As we reached the landing of the staircase, a glass shattered and we immediately looked in the direction of the noise. It was Jerry. He too was not spared by this unidentified apocalypse. What in the world was happening? Jodiiee was still sobbing, but not as much as earlier. We pushed the door open, and it fell of it's hinges. We steeped out of the Inn, which was now filled with the smell of decomposing bodies. All of a sudden, something caught my eye. It was a movement.
Don't forget me in your story! this sounds like the movie by M. Night Shayamalan. The Happening. So cool!!!
Jodiiee "Did you see that?" asked Josh. He seemed pretty startled. "No..whats wrong?" I replied. "That guys arm, it just moved.." He let go of my hand and went over to where he had seen something move. I covered my nose and looked at the hundreds of dead bodies scattered on the floor, wondering if they were all around the world.. I watched Josh walking up to the body. He looked like he knew what he was doing, so I felt a little bit more comfortable and secure. Josh managed to poke the dead guy to check if there was any sign of life. At that very moment a small, baby, ape like creature that looked so deformed it was disgusting scuttled across the dead guys body and inside his jacket. "Arghhh! What the hell was that?!" yelled Josh as he jumped back. He startled me so much that even I jumped. "What? What's wrong?" I asked with a slight bit of fear on my face. "I don't know.. I don't know. I think it was a rat.. but I'm not sure." replied Josh. I jokingly hit him on the arm and told him to quit being a wimp. Josh, Jerry and I continued strolling down the dead streets and alleyways. Everything was gone, we were living amongst the dead, walking amongst a sea of bodies.. some deaths told stories. We visited a house that had a whole family cuddling up next to each other, it was like they knew they were going to die. Every single house, every single shop, everywhere we went, there was no sign of life. This couldn't just be it. As the day hit noon, the sun was shining ever so brightly on our earth. So bright that we all had to stop in our tracks, because amongst us bodies.. Bodies that were starting to steam, the smell becoming more and more distinct. "We need to get inside" said Josh as he turned around to face me. We quickly looked at one of the biggest houses on the street, climbed through an open window and slammed it shut. "At least we got a nice house" laughed Jerry. "Jerry, this isn't a laughing matter" I said, angrily. "Don't you get it? All them stories, about our world ending. It's true. Our time has come. We have to do something.. We need to see if there's anyone else out there". At this point I was becoming more and more frantic. Everything was hard to take in. "She's right.." replied Josh, his voice as calm as ever. "We do need to do something, but in order to do that, we need resources, equipment and we need to know what we're dealing with". He started making his way to the window whilst he was talking, I followed next to his side. We stopped talking and the three of us watched the bodies continuing to steam, practically burn.. There faces and bodies slowly starting to disfigure. You could practically see the fumes coming off of them. "What's happening?.." I asked, petrified. "I.. I don't know.." was all Josh could reply.
Josh I slowly and cautiously walk forward, every step slow and painstakingly suspenseful. The floorboards creaked with every step I took, which jut added to the anxiety welling inside of me. I could see the corpse's face now. It was... Familiar. I had seen this guy somewhere before. "Who is he? Yes! It's him!", I thought. I confidently took a step forward, my foot next to his foot, and involuntarily thought out loud, "It's that guy at the bar! Remember him Jerry? Kane? No, Keith! Ye- whoa!" My thought were cut short. I lost bearings immediately, losing balance and falling into where the floorboard once was. I flailed my arm wildly in a pathetic attempt to regain balance. Fortunately, Jodiiee came running forward and caught me by the collar of my jacket, grunted, and pulled with all her might. Both of us fell onto the ground, and we lay there, panting. My heart was racing. It beat uncontrollably within the restrictions of my ribcage. Jerry ran forward to help us. I gripped Jodiiee's hand. "Thank you..." I breathlessly panted. I stood up once again, stumbled, but managed to stand up before hitting the ground. I offered my hand to Jodiiee and she gladly took it. I hoisted her up. "Let's get the hell outta here!", Jodiiee exclaimed. Jerry took lead and headed out through the frame of the door, with Jodiie following behind. I darted after them, but stopped mid-track. I took one last glance at Keith, the cheerful and healthy man who was chatting with us a the bar barely 12 hours ago- now degraded to nothing more than a decomposing bag of bones... His face, now twisted and surrounded by a lime green pool of 'blood' screamed a silent shout of despair. God save the Queen.
