It's all down to opinion. Someone back there said queer isn't apart of LGBT because it's a slur. Any word can be used in a offensive way. Just some people take it to the next level. Gay was used in a offensive way to this day.
Hmmmm. Gay actually I think is a more OG slur. It has so much more history than queer and that's why the "reclamation" worked. Otherwise is would have just gone back to meaning happy
Are you stupid or just stupid? It's exactly like calling someone the N word, taking it offensively. Then call their friend it. It's hypocrisy.
So basically since some people use the N word, you'll follow and start using it too even though it's offensive to some people?
You've totally missed the point. You can't call someone the N word because it's offensive, but they can call their own kind it. As the same with queer; this is why i said it's hypocrisy.
Bruh queer is not a name to call someone. It may be an adjective to describe unusual behaviour and if you think that guys kissing guys is queer, then you can call it that. But don't call someone a queer, because they are people. Not abnormalities. At the same time don't use the word exclusively for abnormal gender/sexuality stuff, you should also use it when referring to other things you don't understand. If you selectively use it for those things it can become a slur.
No no no, it's hypocrisy. They've got it in the avatar names, their terminology, and still say it's offensive DOUBLE STANDARDS
uh, the whole point is that it's okay for people to reclaim slurs used against them, but not okay for others to use them because of the history of oppression behind them. LGBT people can refer to themselves or a friend as queer, but nobody has the right to call any LGBT person queer without their permission, and cishet people don't have the right to use it at all - in the same way a black person can refer to themselves or a friend with the n word, but no non-black person can use it in any context. it's how slurs and reclamation work mate
But how does it work? If people can still call someone the N word and have it be offensive, has the word been reclaimed?
I think that language evolves much more slowly than certain groups of people would like it to. We can call homosexuals gay even though it was a slur. Did they "reclaim" it? When will the N word and queer become like "gay"? Where's the threshold?
Yes Pleasure. But Reclamation is meant to do something, change the meaning of the word itself, make it unoffensive in contexts that it was offensive in before, no?
