https://youtu.be/J8LxORztUWY It's an inhumane industry more than a genre or artform. It doesn't break any musical or cultural ground. It's just like an unnerving, exploitative commercial conglomerate with the cheesiest smile yet this millenium. The differences between K-pop groups are so small that they look like clones of eachother to anyone who isn't a fan themselves. Somehow even more generic and bland than western pop music. The colour, high energy, pleasant faces, and appeal to cuteness almost compensate for the lack of substance, but they still fall short. I don't see anything special in K-pop idols. They're not like singers in the West who tend to develop and create their own music. Rather, they're like a choir. Why do we call them idols when they're powerless, bring nothing to the table except conducting the will of their producers. The real "idols" are behind the scenes and the choir perform for them. idk how anyone could like it after applying a critical perspective. It's vapid af.
I mean you can say you like (G)I-DLE if you like the Korean vocals in K/DA so technically it’s kind of a thing id count it
