Theodor I trudged to my small, grim office cubical. The depressing, gray color stained my eyes as I sat at the tiny desk, bored and munching on the remains of my glazed donut. I typed in meaningless numbers, filed countless folders. Then I saw something. Something dark on my computer screen. 'What...what is that?' I thought to myself with a feeling of foreboding settling in a knot in my stomach. With apprehension, I touched the black thing. "IT MOVED" I said my eyes wide, my heart skipping a beat. I tried to pull away but it wouldn't let go of me. It had me and I knew it wouldn't give up without a fight. I heard a silken voice travel across my brain, hypnotic and endless,"I will not hurt you my precious. I swear I would never." the voice was without gender, a wounded soul with no hope within it's blackness. My jaw went slack, my vision fuzzed and I followed it's command. But something, something within me wouldn't give up. It wouldn't let me stop pulling on my arm, screaming for help. Then, at last, one of my coworkers, Tyler, guy in a accounting good man. Came running "Woah Theo!! What's going on!?" I could hear myself scream "IT'S GOT ME THE BLACK THING'S GOT ME!!" I felt near tears, trying to get away. My mind was blank, unknowing and uncaring, under the black things control. Then, very slowly, I regained consciousness. I was aware of my hand sliding off of the screen as it should. A throbbing pain erupted through my skull and I held my head, wishing the pain would disappear. Then the voice came back "good. Very good. You passed your first test. You will be gifted."
The Doctor 'How wonderful! His first power.' I thought as I watched Theodor shiver and look at the other man whose face was white as a sheet. "What the hell was that Theo?!?" he exclaimed, color draining back into face. "I have no idea..." Theodor responded, staring hard at me, seeing a glimpse of my shadow. "The black thing...it had me...but let go...why would it do that? If it had me..." Theodor murmured out loud. I smiled my ghastly, grimace of a smile. I whispered to him "Yes...this is your first test. Soon you will have proved yourself worthy. Soon..."Then, his mind fought me! Surprise caused my shadow to exit quickly, narrowing its slits of eyes. "Ahh...he is using his gift well already...perfect..." It hissed brokenly. I smiled again and he rolled his shoulders, as if he felt breath on his neck. The fine hairs upon his neck stood and I stroked his hair, not touching him. I hissed, and cursed. "Daaaammmnnn yoooouuu Fooooorrrriiiissshhh" as I slowly dissipated, returning to my body.
