Lol I said it was a shítty show, and I might not like some of your views or points from other interactions, but I don’t mind you much.
I might watch it. I dunno. Depends on if I'm bored. It's not really in my wheelhouse but it looks like there's some bonkers stuff going on so it might be fun. If nothing else, I'll watch it just to spite all the people crying about fat shaming and getting offensive. I'm always down to stomp on the PC culture that the Left has inflicted in this world.
Lmao why y’all always have to bring politics into this? People don’t like the show because it triggers people. Not stupid edgy “omg I’m soooo triggered!!!” but it legitimately triggers people with eating disorders, or past eating disorders or any sort of disordered type of eating habits. The show also brings in homophobic characters and makes them large parts of the show, along with fat shaming that some people will always be harmed by. This show might not be as bad as 13RW, but Netflix is only furthering their use and obsession on mental and physical disorders to profit.
The Left made it political first when they started trying to restrict the arts in order to prevent "triggering" and offending "marginalized groups." And some people are "homophobic." That's life. There's nothing wrong with an artwork showing that some people are "homophobic."
I’m all for these issues being out there. I don’t like when people try to force censorship. With that being said.. An entire show surrounding, whether they meant to or not, the idea that skinny, especially skinny from not eating, is necessary and equals beautiful.. that’s fućked. That’s practically made to trigger people. Some of my support friends and myself have seen scenes and talked about how it’s probably caused many people to become curious about or even start to pick up ED habits. They don’t make her skinny because she worked for it, they make her skinny by making her starve from some medical thing, which wouldn’t have dropped her weight as much as it did tbh. Censorship is a no-no, but this show took an issue that should be helped and instead put it on a pedestal.
I've watched all the episodes ?♀️ I thought it was gonna focus more on her hatred towards students and getting revenge on those who were cruel to her but it's more focused on her wanting to win pageants. It's not a bad show. Defintely takes some unexpected turns to keep you interested. I'm excited to see what they do with season 2.
Okay I watched it to see what all the fuss is about, and didn't expect to like it as much as I did (disclaimer I'm only halfway through). Patty suffered from BED (binge eating disorder) and getting skinny doesn't just magically make it go away. She talks about how she still wants to eat like her fat self did. Also, she talks about 'fat Patty' being a demon, which is a very common but unrealistic trope used in eating disorder stories (the lifetime movie Starving in Suburbia uses it too). Patty has always been a little psychotic. The only reason she had her jaw wired shut is because a homeless guy punched her after she punched him first. She is obsessed with her pageant coach, even wanting to ruin his marriage as she has the delusion she can be with him. As for the homophobia... There are Southern characters. Lmao that's it. One of them doesn't even consider herself Asian because she is so damn dumb and ignorant/uninformed. Patty's female bff is pretty much in love with her, plus there's a closested bi character. Maybe more that idk about yet. So it's not like there's homophobia but no representation. Oh, and as for triggering people? I'm bi and have struggled with eating disorders for years. Restrictice eating, bulimia, and most recently binge eating. This show hasn't triggered me at all, and I'm not recovered or anything. Also, not everyone can get an ED. Sure, some might try and starve themselves, but it's like trying to get depressed, or get bipolar. It's a psychiatric disease, not something that comes and goes whenever someone wants to lose weight. Tldr: it's not as bad as y'all think.
^ If they try and starve themselves... that IS an eating disorder... Lol. Anyone can develop an eating disorder. Anyone can develop depression. Not all psychiatric disorders are acquired the same way. Some people are predisposed to it, yeah, but with ED and depression, those don't require a predisposition. Also: just because you don't find it triggering doesn't mean others don't and cannot. Everyone experiences and copes with trauma differently.
Okay? I’m glad you haven’t gotten triggered from it, but I know handfuls of people who have, including myself. I’ve seen a multitude of scenes online and I’ve gotten upset from just seeing those. My friend Andrea literally had to stay with me for four days last week because she watched the show with her sister and thought she might relapse into starving again. I’m glad it hasn’t affected you; but it has and will continue to harm others. These things need to be talked about, even the unnecessary (for this show imo) homophobic characters, but they still shouldn’t make an ED of any sorts seem like it could help other lose weight. Tldr; It is as bad as we think, you simply don’t experience it the same way many others might.
That’s great, I’m glad you can view it and see only a show. However, this isn’t about people just being sensitive. This isn’t about dumb teens trying to be edgy. This is about people who have or will/are forming, often severe, mental disorders to where they could hurt themselves over a show.
Nope. Seen it all, such a bad series lol. The trailer shows such a good comedy but the series itself is very VERY bad.
