Not sure what the stance is on tattoos... but I'd recommend getting one rather than risking infection from an intentional cut/burn. ?
But if you injure yourself on top of those scars to make it "look" like it isn't self harm, then you actually ARE self harming and the military will probably think the additional injuries are fishier If you have any friends or family or medical professionals that can attest that your scars are not self harm related, maybe ask the military if you could use them as proof of your abusive situation if the military doesn't believe the truth about your scars?
Yeah as long as your uniform covers it, you can have them. I would honestly recommend you just tell them the truth, and don’t wait until they ask. They might not ask and just assume it’s self-harm and it’s better for you to tell the MEPS doctors the truth.
Plus even in the placement, they can’t prove whether or not it’s self harmed I would think ?so there’s chance telling the truth would work easily
Be truthful, it's not an end all. I've known this that did self harm that got in even with the scars, and I've known some that had issues. Really, it's more who you are and what the rest of your file says than the few scars.
Agree^ Also, keep in mind that scars are far different from fresh/just healing marks or very recently healed ones. If they’re healed and you don’t have disorders; it’s not that big of a deal. My cousin has quite a big cut on his wrist that /is/ self inflicted from some stupid blood pact thing he did (smh) but he’s still a marine. Maybe it depends on the area or something, idk, but it’s not as big of a deal as you might think. Being honest is the best and easiest thing to do. Making a worse injury would only look worse since it would be large and take much longer to heal. Having an infected gash or burn or one that is still in an early stage of healing is a LOT worse than smaller, further along in healing/healed scars that you can explain.
They will ask you questions and you will have to fill out paperwork and that will determine whether or not you are fit for duty. If you go in there with a fresh scar and they ask you how you got it and you start stuttering or break eye contact your body language will make you look like a liar and they will conclude that it was self harm. Telling the truth with a straight face is all you can do.
I’d say leave then be tbh. Don’t hurt yourself further. Plus you could pretend they’re battled scars or something idk
May 15th,nah before you leave you have to get in your underwear for a minute or two and they look you over real quick to make sure nothing's happened while you've been waiting to ship out
Then you should be fine. From the way you presented the information, it doesn’t seem like those marks are new and are done healing since they’ve scarred. I highly doubt any practitioner would think healed scarring happened while you were waiting. Giving yourself something like a “scratch” and then, what I’m assuming to be, a large or decent sized burn won’t be far along in proper healing by May 15th.
