googolplex

  1. It's to late for me to go over this and make sense of it in my head. I'll recheck tomorrow.

  2. Not adding, multiplication.

  3. I'll just put it this way,
    10x10=100
    100x100=10,000
    1,000x1,000=1,000,000
    10,000x10,000=100,000,000

The pattern is add the number of existing zeroes in the first number to what is being multiplied by. Say we have 100. We multiply it by 1,000,000.
We get 1 and then however many zeroes are behind both terms. 2 plus 6 is 8 so we get 100,000,000. 1 with 8 zeroes following.

Multiplying by 10,000,000,000 follows the same pattern so, if we do it 100 times adding 10 zeroes every time we get 100x10 zeroes, thus meaning 10^10^100 is only 1001 digits long.

  4. It is adding, in a way.

  5. no, I explained it already. Giving a certain number a "power" means that this number has to multiply by itself however many times.

  6. I HATE MATH!!!! 

    DAMNIT.

All I know is input output the commutative thing of whatever and the what of equality DAMNIT I'M LOSING MY SMARTIENSNSNS.

    -cries-

    WHYYY?!

  7. Pixie, I just explained it as well as it could possibly be explained.

That is the mathematical shortcut for multiplying 10, 100, 1000, and so forth.

    10,000,000,000 x 10,000,000,000 = 100,000,000,000,000,000,000

You add the amount of Zeroes you already have to the amount of zeroes in the number you're multiplying by.

    Therefore, 10,000,000,000 times 10,000,000,000 would be 1 with 10 x 100 zeroes behind it. 1001 digits isn't impossibly large.

I don't believe you can really provide a comeback to this. Try if you like, the next step is me posting the actual answer.

  8. 10,000,000,000^100 *

  9. Can somebody well versed in the ways of math confirm this please. I know I'm right.

  10. You spelled it wrong its "googleplux"

  11. Interesting

  12. Googolplex is the epitome of things I hate.

  13. Why? It's just about the epitome of easy math problems.

  14. I prefer knots to numbers.
    Topology FTW.

  15. (/).-) pixie, you've just earned the facepalm of the month award!

    Congratulations!

What you wrote was a mere 1 billion to the power of 100.

A googolplex is 10^googol. Also expressed as 10^(10^100) the parenthesis placement makes a HUGE difference.

What is in the first post is a readable number. 1001 digits is big, not universally big though.

What you really meant was 10 to the power of... You ready for this? Are you sure? Ok then. Here goes.

You meant 10 to the power of 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

A much much much much much much much much much bigger number than what the original post is.

What you said about the googolplex is still incorrect because there is infinite space but it would take a hell of a lot more room to write a googolplex than we currently know of.

Your first post was incorrect. That's why I went off on the 1001 digits rant. After I personally know what the googolplex is (10^googol) I can see what you mean. Just for future reference, next time you post anything mathematical, don't leave things off. Everything in math is important.

  16. 10 billion* second line.

  17. (/).-) I'm a close second for the facepalm award.
My fingers have forsaken me. 10 billion, 3rd line.**

  18. Go for it Dawn.
