Gone ( sequel to who should I choose)

After that it has been months since anything exciting happened. I got out if trouble because we lied and said we were at the greenhouse when she got hit. So we didn't get in trouble for that.

After months of the same class it gets a little boring. Especially when your not allowed to do any spells. I have still made no friends but I like it that way. I like the quietness and since I'm one of the few people who understand what usually happens to friendships.

I stopped worrying about the song deciding that it must have not mad it besides Mack coming by everyday telling me almost time almost time. It was weird I know but he seemed happier everyday until today and he got dead serious.

At lunch he came and sat down by me and looked straight at me until I looked at him.

"Yes?"

"Today is a big day and they told me not to tell but I will," he said.

"Tell what," I said. Is he still going on about the music stuff? I love music. It is all I have left that really truly makes me happy but to make music? Who would be crazy enough to let me do that? Apperantly Mack is.

"You are going to be in the concert tonight at town square! You have to bring your own original song though. I bet you have tons of those though right?"

"Yea tons," I lied. I have never written a song before and if I did I would rather it be a heart felt one that was really from the heart and not a piece of junk that repeats over and over.

"Great! See you there," he said and was gone. Ugh! I have to write a song and I have to perform! Could it get any worse then that?

"Madelin! You will not beat me in tonight's concert," I hear Alexis yell. It just got worse.

"Watch me," I said and walked away. I don't think I'm hungry anymore.

I get a piece of paper and a pen and silently sit down in an empty room. I need something easy to remember and catchy but also heart felt and not continuing over and over. Maybe one of those songs that have a whole bunch of lyrics and repeat all then twice and then use some of the lyrics at the end to finish off.

I wrote at the top of my paper:

UNKNOWN TITLE

and then got ready to write some lyrics.

I looked at what I wrote knowing that this would be confusing to anyone who didn't know me. It also didn't rhyme much but not all songs do. A lot of them go without rhyming so I will take that.

As I sang it and listened and wrote the way it needs to be. I will song it 2 times but not say because we walked onnn I will keep it upbeat and say because we walk on. Then after that I will sing from the reason I'm still going us you you and down and finish off with we walked onnnnnnn like originally.

I came up with the name WALK ON for the song. I wonder where that was from?

So I walked out right as the bell rung and of course I was trampled. I had heels on to which didn't help. I fell down on the ground and stood there watching everyone step on my face. I saw one more person and thought for sure they would knock me out but I couldn't feel the pain.

I looked up and of course it was Alexis. She stopped right in front of me and smashed in my face as hard as she could. It hurt and it did knock me out. As it was getting dark I could hear the evil laughter and see the blood. I actually thought I was dead until I woke up.

When I woke up I was in my room. I'm not sure how I got in my room though. I immediantly jumped up hollering about my song afraid Alexis took it for it was the only one I had.

I starting tearing the room apart until I found it. It looked just the same as before. I sighed. I was worried for nothing. I go lay back down with a major headache and my face didn't feel that great either or my arm or my legs. I might be squished to a pulp but I won't let Alexis win this thing.

The bell rang and I knew it was the last one of the day. I listened to all the feet running by and my door slammed open.

I looked up to see Zevin panting. He must have ran the whole way down hear as soon as the bell rung.

"What...Happened," he choked out.

"I walked out and was trampled by the school pretty badly. What happened to you," I said trying to get off the subject of me.

"Ran pretty fast."

"Oh why?"

"I heard you got hurt and that your face was literally broke!"

"Who'd you hear that from?"

"Alexis."

"Is she going around telling everyone.... I will get that little.... I'm going to get her," I said jumping up and going towards the door.

"No! Maddie you have to stay hear," he said jumping in front of the door.

"Fine," I mutter and go back knowing I wasn't in a fighting mood.

"I'll call my mom she can fix you up before tonight," he said getting out a phone. Since when did he have a phone? I dont even have a phone!

"Ok," I muttered and went to look for a mirror to look at my face.

"Maddie don't look at it. It doesn't look to good," he yells as music comes from his phone.

"Ugh! Ok but your mom better hurry!"

"Ok I'll tell her," he said stepping out the door.

When he comes back in he looked a little upset.

"What happened?"

"She says that she is not going to come and help a little ***** that dumped her son because of something he didn't do," he murmurs.

"Oh. Well is there a nurse at the school that could help?"

"I'll go and see I'll be back in a minute ok?"

"Ok," I said and watched him walk off. His mom just had to mention that at a time like this!

He walked back in with a nurse later on and they knocked me out cold from a touch of my face. I didn't know what happened the whole time but I do know the song I wrote was replaying over and over in my head to the point it was annoying but it helped me memorize it.

When I woke up I felt like I had been smashed on all over again. I groaned and sat up the best I could and ended up half way on my back half way face down on the bed. When I finally pulled up right I looked around trying to figure out where I was.

I was still in my room. That's good I guess. I'm tired of being at hospitals! They creep me out.

There wasn't anyone in my room so I figured they had all left. That's when I heard the faint"Click click," of a reloading gun beside my ear.

"Yes?"

"I'm going to kill you for what you did to my son," the person blurts.

"Look Mrs.Tays I didn't do anything to him! I still love him! I know it doesn't seem like it but I do and I wouldn't do anything to harm him just like he wouldn't do anything to harm me!"

"You don't love him you lousy son of a *****!"

"I do love him! I love him with all of my heart! At least with what's left of my heart."

"I don't know what that means but I do know he was at the point of not even coming this year because of you! He was at the point of cutting himself! He almost did if it wasn't for me! He thought you didn't love him anymore and almost died from the heartache! So I will kill you no matter what you say!"

"But I do love him! Don't you see I went through the same pain! I didn't want to break up with him! I had to though! Do you not see I was heartbroken from what he did? I was at the verge of killing myself but I knew he might still love me! That is why I came here! For him! You know why? Because I love him! So if you don't understand that ***** then go ahead and kill me! Put me out if my misery! I have been waiting for this my whole life!"

"Fine I will," she said pointing the gun at my head.

"Don't do it mom! I will shoot myself if you shoot her," someone with a lot if rage yells.

"Zev... I .... I didn't know you would be here!"

"Save it! I want you out of here! Now!"

"Fine," she said and disappeared.

"Maddie! Are you ok? She didn't shoot did she?"

"No. I wanted her to though."

"I heard."

"How much did you hear?"

"As much as I needed to."

"What does that mean?"

"Don't worry about it. Just relax while I call the nurse."

"I don't need the nurse!"

"Maddie you where almost killed! You need the nurse!"

"You can call her if you want but they will go looking for your mom to arrest her!"

"Fine you win! I won't call the nurse!"

"And since when did you get a phone?"

"I got it a couple days ago. A friend gave it to me because he was getting tired of me saying the same old excuse that I don't have the money for one so no big deal."

"Ok."

"And since when did you decide you love me still," he smirked.

"Who said I stopped?"

"You did!"

"No I said no such thing!"

"Whatever you say."

"Good!"

"Ok ok now will you let me call a nurse!"

"No!"

"Fine! I'm staying here though! If you wake up screaming in the middle of the night that someone is going to kill you again I'm calling the nurse!"

"Fine fair enough. I'll make sure to control my dreams tonight."

"You can't do that!"

"I have before!"

"What have you possibly made your dream into?"

"....."

"Maddie!"

"....."

"Ok you don't want to say that's fine."

"Ok good."

"So the concert is it still tonight?"

"Not now that your hurt."

"Oh ok."

"You need some sleep. I'll make sure my crazy psychopath of a mother doesn't try to kill you again."

"Ok thanks," I said and fell asleep almost immediantly afterwards.

When I woke up Zevin was still there but he was talking to someone. I looked to see who it was and it was three people. They looked like stylists because wait....... Stylists?

"Zevin why are they here?"

"They are here for you."

"Why," I said sitting up. I already knew the answer but I wanted to know for sure.

"They are your stylists."

"Oh ok well I want to say right now no pink no purple no yellow but I do love blue!"

"I told them Maddie."

"Ok well hurry up please I don't want to be late!"

They all rushed forward and brought me to the sink and then they stuck my head down in it and turned the water on. Perfect! Just sink wash my hair why don't ya?

When they finished the blow dryer it and then straightened it. They then put blonde dye in my hair. When that was finished they washed it all over again and blow dryer and straightened it again. Next they put in light blue highlights and did the whole wash and dry process again. Then they put no frizz stuff in my hair and layered it.

Next they handed me a dress that was the exact sane color as my highlights. Of course it was puffy on the bottom and strapless on top like usual. They shoved me in the bathroom and waited while I put it on. When I stepped out they shoved a pair of heels in front of my feet. I put them on as they placed a headset and a crown on my head.

Finally they started putting on my make up. They put on light make up to show my face more and a simple lip gloss for my lips. Next they put the sane blue eyeshadow and the same blue mascara on. Yes I know blue mascara? Some how they had it. Then when I was done I looked at myself. I looked so girly!


"Thank you do much," I said as the stylists left and slammed the door behind them.

"Told you I was going to be stuck wearing something stupid like this! I like the hair though it's ok."

"Really? You don't like it? I think it looks absolutely amazing," he said getting closer.

"Careful! Don't mess up my make up," I laughed.

"I wouldn't dare!"

"I bet you wouldn't," I laughed.

He laughed"Come on they're waiting outside for us."

"Ok," I said and walked out. Of course it was a carriage waiting for us! I should've known! I thought there would be something better this time but oh well I still love the horses that drive us.

As we get in I notice on the other side of us there was another carriage. I wonder who's that is? Oh well!

When we arrived there was A LOT of people there already. I don't know if I can do this anymore! Zevin must of saw how nervous I was because he took my hand. I slowly breathed in and out trying to relax a little. I hope I wasn't first.

As they called the name of the singers I was getting nervous. When they called Alexis's name I stared in shock. She was looking like one of those goth rock stars. She sang some song from this place I didn't recognize but the crowd went crazy for it. Then they called my name.

I slowly walked to the podium and stood not facing the crowd. But they still couldn't see me. It began to rise up to stage and smoke was everywhere as it turned and I stepped on stage and sang my song.

When I finished I was out of breath and the crowd was screaming their heads off. Half if them had tears in there eyes. I guess they did realize what it was about. I smiled. I knew they understood. I ran along high fiveing them all.

I walked off stage and the judges where Ready to announce winners of the first round. Alexis was in it and I was to but so where three others. This was now about me and her.

We all sang again and this time Alexis was after me. When she was done she didn't give the microphone back. Instead she started talking.

She said"Madelin or Maddie is it? I think we should make a bet! If I win I get full permission to date Zevin for a month. If you win I will leave you alone about him."

"What makes you think he will date you? You are such a stuck up snob! Mrs. Priss here thinks she will get what she wants everyone! She thinks she can have whatever she wants whenever she wants but in the case I will NOT let you win no matter what it takes! You will never get him and you know you won't so give it up," I snarl into my head piece.

"Maddie stop! Both of you! Listen Alexis I am not going to date you and never will! I'm not trying to be mean but I just don't like you like that! I love Maddie though and you will not change that," someone from the crowd screams. I look to see Zevin full of rage. The crowd was whispering now. What have we done?

"You will though Zevin! You cannot resist much longer! And I won't forget about us dating before! I know you still like me and want me back," she said and walks off the stage.

I look to the crowd and freeze in my tracks. Is that? Oh no! It is!

"Don't kill Mrs.Tays," I scream running from the stage while she flys on her broom towards me. I bump into Zevin and he grabs onto me and pushes me begin him blocking his mom from getting to me.

She lands right in front of us this time and laughs.

"I was going to but I understand that song of yours Maddie! I know what you meant now. I forgive you!"

I laugh and step forward"You? You forgive me? This comes from the women who tried to kill while I was unconscious!"

"Maddie get back," Zevin said trying to get between us but I'm to full of anger now.

"Sorry sweetheart that's how it works," she said and was gone.

"Don't call me sweetheart!"

"Maddie calm down its ok she's gone now."

I nod my head getting dizzy.

"I think I need to sit down," I whisper holding my head. Did I have a headache before?

"Ok I'll get you back to the carriage," he said and walked me to the carriage we got in and I almost fell over but steadied myself before anyone noticed.

"Dizzy," I muttered.

"It's ok just lay your head down it will all go away soon."

I nodded and put my head on his shoulder. I fell asleep as he stroked my hair. Instead of my ears ringing they where full of that evil laughter so I was up every ten minutes screaming and realizing it was a dream.

Was it going to always be like this?

"Maddie it's just a dream go back to sleep," he said over and over as I woke up.

I always nodded my head and closed my eyes only to be reawaken by the laughter. I finally had enough and didn't close my eyes again. That's when I remembered something.

I sat up faster then a bolt of lighting.

"Whats wrong," he asked looking at me.

"Your mom she she had a broom and she's a healer not a a...," I couldn't bring myself to say it. It was a very harsh word in this world to be called this.

"A witch? Yes she kind've is. I don't want to scare you or anything but the next time you do anything with her I wouldn't sit to terribly close. She can murmur a few words and you would be instantly killed."

"So is she half..."

"Yea she is half witch."

"Oh..."

"You really need some sleep. Your eyes are all puffy."

"Thanks a girl loves to hear that," I said sarcastically.

"Just saying," he laughed.

"Ok," I said laughing to. I laugh about a lot of things and I don't even know why. This is one of those things.

"I think they are dropping us off by my room. I can walk you back if you don't feel like you can."

"I will try and see if I can I need some exercise to help my dizziness."

"Ok just don't fall."

"I'll do my best not to."

"Good!"

We laughed as the carriage came to a stop and we got out and walked towards the rooms.

He stopped at one and was about to open the door and stopped and turned towards me.

"Maddie, you did really great tonight."

"Thanks besides the whole Alexis thing I think it was a pretty good concert."

"It was," he said and stepped closer"Maddie there was one more thing I need to do before the night is over."

"What?"

"This," he said and we kissed. That lasted about two minutes before the door swung open and a boy our age yelled"What are you kids doing!"

The boy laughed as Zevin jumped back from fright. I felt the we where on the first date and dad caught us kissing moment.

"Zevin, you didn't tell me you had roommates," I said looking at them.

"Unfortunately I do. Two of them," he said and sighed and looked down.

"Oh."

"Well I'll see you tommorow Maddie. Don't fall!"

"Ok I won't," I laughed. As I walked away I heard him screaming at them and more laughter and then something fell. I laughed silently. They sure did know how to get him mad!

I almost fell twice on the way back but I made it. I slammed the door behind me. I through myself on the bed and went to sleep. The dress was uncomfortable to sleep in but I didn't care. After tonight I was exhausted and luckily tommorow was Saturday.

When I woke up I felt like a was being stabbed from all sides. I couldn't remember much from last night. I couldn't remember much of anything really. I looked down and saw that I still had on the dress and I remembered some.

I got up and threw water on my face until I was awake. I tried to brush my hair but I didn't want it down so I pulled it up in a pony tail and walked outside. It was hot out there but I didn't mind.

I took my shoes off and held them in my hands my feet getting burned on the warm concrete. I got tired and sat down by a tree.

"Maddie? Zevin is looking for you! He thought you was kidnapped! Come on follow me," someone said. I turned to see the boy who had pulled the prank last night.

"Ok," I said and got up and followed him back to there room. Zevin was on the phone with someone pacing around. He looked at me and slammed the phone shut without saying anything else.

"Maddie! Where have you been? I leave for a couple minutes and you take off!"

"Sorry," I murmur.

"It's ok just glad your still here and not with my mom," he said hugging me.

That's where he thought I was. He thought his mom had tried to kill me again.

I put my shoes in my other hand because they where making my hand fall asleep.

"Maddie you look dizzy again."

"I am."

"Well come on in! You need to sit and not be out in this weather," he said pulling me in.

He got a chair and sat me down in it. This made me even more dizzy.

"Maddie, are you okay? You look... Worse."

"Something is wrong with my head," I murmured because everything was going in and out of my focus.

"What?"

"I don't know. All I hear is this evil laugh and then everything gets all dizzy an then I see a gun pointed at my head and then and then.....," I stopped realizing why now"Oh my gosh."

"Maddie it's ok! She is not coming to kill you," he said reassuringly.

"She has tried twice Zevin! What makes you think she won't do it again!"

"I don't know. But I do know she will do anything as long as I'm happy."

"I realized that when she pointed a gun at my face!"

"Sorry about that and all the things she said. I should've done something."

"How do you know what she said?"

"Ooh! Busted," screamed the other boy I didn't pay attention to him though and continued to stare at Zevin. He wasn't there until after I was almost shot.

"I was there."

"Only for a short while though!"

"No Maddie. I was there the whole time."

"So you heard......"

"Yea I did."

I sighed. He heard every word! Can I not say anything without being heard by the person who doesn't need to hear it?

"Maddie, it's ok. She won't come to get you!"

"I know but still... What if she does?"

"Then I will do something to get you back. I won't let her get you okay?"

"Okay"

He came closer and whispered"By the way I still love you to."

I smiled"Good I don't know what I would of done if you didn't."

"Me either."

"Hey! Are y'all going to kiss or what," the boy said.

I laughed and bit my lips.

"Yes," Zevin said.

"Well hurry up I won't interrupt you this time.... Maybe."

Before they could continue to talk I leaned in this time. It had been about five minutes when the boy yells"That's enough! Gosh y'all are to lovey dovey!"

I laughed at him. Always going to be like this around him huh?

"I better get back to my room I didn't really sleep last night," I said rubbing my eyes.

"Ok I'll walk you back," he said watching the boy.

We walked back to my room in silence. I told him I'd see him later and and walked in. I shut the door and threw the shoes across the room. I didn't have anything to wear but the dress so I just threw it across the room and got in bed.

Before I went to sleep I was only thinking one thing. I hate dresses and heels. I fell asleep for a while and when I woke up I could see the light of day roll in through my window.

There was a pair of shorts and a t-shirt on my bed. Finally something I will wear! I out them in and found a pair of flip flops by the bed. I put them on and walked out. I wanted to go search around but I couldn't move. I saw something out of the corner of my eye.

"Maddie! What's wrong you've been sitting here for ten minutes not moving," Zevin said coming behind me.

I didn't answer as I saw something shiny gleaming in the light.

"Knife," I murmured.

"What knife Maddie? I don't see anything."

"Your mom kill me," I managed to say.

"She isn't here Maddie!"

"Knife," I screamed staring at it as it came barreling towards me.

"Maddie no," he said and the next thing I know I was on the ground.

I had been pushed away by Zevin so I wouldn't get stabbed but I don't know if he was so lucky.

"Zevin," I said the best I could still in shock.

"I'm okay," said a voice next to me. I looked over to see him holding his side.

"You got stabbed," I whispered.

"No it just cut me. It didn't go all the way in. I think it landed on the ground over there."

"Zevin your bleeding!"

"No I'm fine."

"You are not fine! Your mother almost killed you for goodness sake! You need the nurse!"

"No I don't I'll be fine!"

"If you refuse to go to the nurse then I'll just being her here!"

"No Maddie I'm fine really!"

"Zevin you are not fine! You where just almost stabbed!"

"So?"

"Seriously? So, you are bleeding and need medical attention!"

"I'm fine!"

"Come on I'll just fix you myself then," I said bringing him in.

I grabbed a towel and some bandages. I layed them on the bed and got a wet paper towel and the first aid kit. I layed them on the bed to.

I put the towel on the bed and told him to sit on it so blood wouldn't get everywhere. I then opened the first aid kit and found some cleaner for the wound. I told him to be still and sprayed it on. I could tell it stung but I continued putting it on.

I then cleaned it with the wet paper towel. I got the bandages and wrapped then around the cut. I could tell it needed stitches.

"Hand me your phone."

"Why?"

"You need stitches and those aren't in the first aid kit that's why."

"Ok fine the numbers already in the phone," he said and handed it to me. I opened it and looked for it in the contacts when I found it I clicked on it and put the phone to my ear.

"Magic prep nurses office how may I help you," the voice on the phone asked.

"Yes one of the students have been stabbed and it is beyond what I can help," I said.

"I wasn't stabbed," Zevin yelled.

"Your as good as well," I hissed and listened.

"Ok what room number?"

"134."

"Ok we will be right over."

"Thank you," I said and hung up.

"Are they coming?"

"Yes. They said they would be right over."

"Ok good. You sounded so much older on the phone you know."

"Yea I was trying to now be still before the bandages come off!"

"Ok. I wasn't stabbed though."

"Well what do you call it when a knife pierces through you?"

"It didn't pierce through me! It just cut me! Ow!"

"Zevin be still! You are going to hurt yourself more!"

"I'm trying!"

Then there was a knock on the door. I quickly rushed to the door and let the people in. They had a gurney rolling it in. They set him on it and brought him to the vehicle. They let me ride to the hospital with him. Once they got him there they put him in surgery and made me wait outside just like last time he got hurt.

Why were we always the one to get hurt? Right after a good moment there is a bad one where one of us are almost killed!

They finally came out and told me what room he was in. I ran up the stairs and didn't even look back at the elevator. It simply took to long.

I got up there out of breath and knocked on the door. I hear the familiar, but weak voice say"Come in."

I open the door and walk in.

"Are you ok? What happened? Did you loose to much blood?"

"Yes. You know what happened. And no I did not loose to much blood thanks to you."

"Me?"

"Yes. If you hadn't bandaged it up I would have internally bled to death before they came. I should be dead but I'm not and I thank you for that."

"I didn't do anything a normal person wouldn't do though!"

"That doesn't matter you saved me."

"You saved me before so I guess we're even."

"Ok we are even," he smiled.

"Ok. What did they do to fix it? Stitches or staples? Did they put a cast thing on it?"

"They refilled me with blood. Stitches. And yes it is kind've like one."

"Oh."

"Good new is I get out today as soon as I want."

"Really? Just tell me when you do and I can check you out ok."

"Ok then go check me out. I hate hospitals."

"Me to. I'll get you out," I said and ran back to the lobby and signed some papers and ran back up again.

I helped him walk to the elevator. They gave him crunches for safe measurement and my toes were all probably all broke by the time we got down to the lobby. We didn't have a ride back so Zevin called the carriage driver and told him were to get us.

Soon the carriage came and I helped him in. He looked pale and exhausted. I felt his head.

"You have a temperature."

"I'm ok really."

"I don't know if we should've checked you out just yet."

"It's ok really I'm fine."

"Ok whatever."

The rest of the way was quiet.

We arrived to the room and he almost fell out of the carriage trying to stand up. I helped him out and his roommates came running out.

"Oh my gosh! Where have you been? We heard a ambulance and then silence when the left. We thought you died," they said together.

He laughed"No I would be if it wasn't for this one though," he said pointing at me.

They gaped and finally one of them managed a thank you and they took him in. I walked back to my room in silence.

I heard a noise and I froze. I turned to look at where it came from. Zevins mom was standing there spinning a knife in her hands.

"You gave no one to save you this time!"

"I have myself and that's all I need!"

"Yea like you can defeat me," she laughed.

"Watch me," I said and froze her and laughed.

"I will send you away now," I said transporting her somewhere in my world. I walked in to my room. It smelled of cleaning tools.

They must have cleaned up the blood for me. I walked to my bed and sat down. I stunk but didn't feel like taking a shower. I decided a clean spell would work and closed my eyes not falling asleep.

I cried and cried not even knowing why. I just kept thinking of my family and how much I missed and needed them. My head was pounding and my stomach and throat we're fighting to keep what food I had in me.

I cried myself to sleep and when I woke my there was a note on my forehead. It read:

MEET ME IN THE GREENHOUSE.... WE NEED TO TALK....SEE YOU THERE.

"S***," I murmured. I was scared enough as it was and I had to go meet some mystery person. I was hoping it was Zevin there and not his mom.

I saw a pair of shorty shorts and a spaghetti strap shirt. I groaned. An I seriously having to wear this to meet a mystery person? I put it on anyways knowing its all I had.

I walked out and tried to remember the way and after about one hundred wrong turns I found it. I walked in and no one was there.

I waited for about an hour and started to leave.

"Don't leave! I just got here," someone yelled behind me. I turned around and finally took a breath. It wasn't his mom it was him.

"Ok. What did you want to talk about?"

"Us."

"What about us?"

"Madelin, I don't want to be broken up. I want to be together. With out you, as you've seen yesterday, I will die."

"I...," I couldn't respond to that. What was I supposed to say? I wanted to be together to but I didn't know how to say it.

"It's ok Maddie I have read your mind. I know what you want."

"Oh."

"Dating?"

"Dating," I agreed.

I hugged him and laughed as we walked down the stairs talking about elephants roller skating. I told him I totally think the elephants could roller skate because I mean what elephant cant?

As we got back I walked in my room. I gasped. It was a mess! Someone has come in and destroyed my room! They must have been looking for something but what could they want?

"We need to get away from this room Maddie. Someone is looking for your necklace! We have to get out," he said and I followed him as he called his roommates telling then what happened and that we where leaving before I got hurt.

We called a carriage to come and bring us to the castle for now.

"Why is my necklace so important?"

"It contains a special power in it. I'm not sure what it is but it is apparently very important."

"Can't I have a normal necklace with powers that don't get me killed," I laughed.

"I hope so," he laughed.

"So how is the castle going to help?"

"It won't. It's who is meeting us there that will help."

"Who is it?"

"Well..."

"Zev! I was hoping you would be ok," someone screamed from the ground. I looked down. He did not!

"Zevin why is she here? If you haven't forgotten she tried to kill me several times!"

"She is the only one that can help up Maddie! Since she doesn't live here in town she's harder to track. It's safer!"

"I'm going to get killed either way so you might as well leave me here and save yourself!"

"Maddie don't say that. You aren't going to die."

"Ha! Yea I will!"

"That's enough come on we have to leave right away," he said getting down and holding up a hand to help me. I hesitated but finally held on to his hand and hopped down.

"Ok you two! Let's get moving," she said and took off flying. We flew after her even though I wasn't sure where I was going.

We got to her house but when she stopped she didn't unlock the door. She turned to me and said"I will do my best not to kill you. I know you mean a lot to my son but that doesn't mean you can break his heart and get away with it! I will kill you one day!"

"Mom you wouldn't kill her!"

"You would be surprised what I would do," she snapped and unlocked the door.

We walked in and I almost fainted from the memories that came rushing in my head. The breakup, the necklace, everything.

I sat on the couch and held my head. I couldn't see either so I closed my eyes.

"Maddie, are you ok," he asked sitting beside me.

"I don't know," I murmured.

"What did you do to her," he screamed at his mom wrapping his arms protectively around me.

"I don't know what you mean!"

"Yes you do! You put one of your witch spells on her! Stop it! Can't you see?"

"Fine," she said and snapped her fingers. The pain slowly wore off and I could see again.

"Well this has been such a fun day," I said sarcastically.

"It sure has," he said laughing.

I leaned back on the couch and sighed. I didn't really sleep that well and I was getting tired. I yawned and remembered that if I fell asleep then I would probably be killed.

"Are you sleepy," he asked.

"Yes! I didn't sleep enough yesterday."

"Go to sleep then."

"I'll be killed!"

"No you won't. I'll make sure of it!"

"Ok I guess I will try," I said and closed my eyes.

I fell asleep right away and dreamed of being stabbed. I woke up screaming and sweating.

"What's wrong Maddie," he asked.

"Stabbed. I was stabbed."

"It was just a dream go back to sleep."

I shook my head and pulled my knees up and wrapped my arms around them and starting rocking back and forth. It wasn't a dream. I was really almost stabbed. That was supposed to be me!

"Maddie, stop that! No one is going to kill you!"

"Your mom," I murmured.

"She won't kill you."

"Did you tell her?"

"Tell her what?"

"Us."

"No not yet. But I will."

"Then she's going to kill me!"

"She isn't! You have got to stop thinking like that."

"I know but it scares me."

"She is nothing to be scared of Maddie. She won't hurt you if I'm happy and I am so she won't kill you."

"Ok."

"Good now go back to sleep."

"I can't sleep now."

"Ok. Well are you hungry?"

"No not really."

"Maddie! You haven't eaten in days! You cant starve yourself!"

"Fine I'll eat a little but not much."

"Ok come on. We have to go to the market and get some food. She is usually out of food at this time of month."

"Ok let's go then," I said and got up.

We walked out the door and it took half an hour but we were finally at the market. I got an apple and some water and argued that it was all I wanted.

On the way back I saw an owl. It was circling around us and when it saw I was looking at it it flew to a tree. I followed it and in the tree was two baby owls. They looked like they had broke wings.

I picked up the nest they were in and the owl flew beside me as I sat down and checked to see if they did have broken wings. They did plus an additional chipped beak on one of them.

"Zevin they're hurt. Is it ok if I take then back with us and fix them?"

"Yea it should be ok. If my mom says anything I'll get her to understand."

"Good," I said and turned to the owl"Do you want to come? I am going to help them and I think they will need there mom."

"Yes I will come," she said. I stepped back. Did that owl just talk?

"Maddie how can you speak owl," Zevin asked.

"I don't know," I whispered.

"The necklace you silly human! It has powers for every good dead done you will be rewarded for better or for worst," said the owl.

"Oh the necklace. It must be something."

"Come on Maddie we better get going," Zebin said.

"Ok I'm coming!"

"Who is this Maddie," the owl asked.

"That's Zevin."

"And he is...."

"My boyfriend," I blushed.

"Oh I see!"

"Yes we should have enough supplies at his moms house to help your kids."

"Oh why are you there?"

"The necklace is more dangerous then we thought. We arrived yesterday."

"Oh of course! Well I hope y'all get out safely."

"Thank you..."

"Mrs.Owl you can call me!"

"Well thank you Mrs.Owl."

"Maddie, come on! We are almost there! We need to fix the wings so they can fly and there's little we can do of the chipped beak," Zevin tells from way up ahead. I didn't realize how slow we were going. I ran to catch up with him.

We walked in silence for a while.

"You two should talk some more," the owl said.

I laughed"Not much to talk about."

"What did she say," Zevin asked.

"She said we should talk more."

"Well we can talk later. Right now my mom looks pretty mad," he said looking up ahead. She did look mad. She had a wand and her broom ready to take off and saw us.

"I thought y'all had left me! I thought she had convinced you to leave," she screamed and pointed at me.

"No I didn't Mrs.Tays now if you will excuse me I need to help some owls," I said and walked in.

I layed the birds down on the couch and went to work making two miniature casts out of a napkin and some rubber bands.

When I was done I thought they looked pretty decent and let them rest. That was all that could be done at the moment. They all three rested and I sat by the nest. The others still haven't came in yet.

I heard a door open some yelling then it slam. The it opened and slammed again.

"Y'all are going to wake them up," I hissed.

"Well I'm sorry that my mom can't understand the fact that I love you and will continue to date you," Zevin said mostly to his mom.

"And I can't help that Zevin won't realize he is in for a roller coaster ride that will only end in heartbreak," she snapped back.

He had to tell her now! Always the wrong moments to tell people things when we do.

"I don't care what either of you are yelling about just stop yelling!"

"I will be happy to," Zevin said sitting by me

"Fine I will agree to that if Zevin agrees not to kiss you for a week."

"What kind of deal is that? I wont agree to that! Just because you don't approve of her doesn't mean I have to stop dating her you know!"

"It is the only deal I will accept to!"

Then they started yelling again. I sighed. I grabbed the nest and ran out the door. I ran far enough and sat down under a tree.

Why did they have to argue about me? It hurt my head thinking about it so I closed my eyes. When it stopped I opened them again. Sunset. I got up and grabbed the nest and walked back the best way I could.

I saw the house and sighed. I walked up to it and opened the door. I sat on the couch and luckily the arguing had stopped and they weren't home. I made a little house for the owls and put them in.

I sat back on the couch and the door bust open.

"You made her take off mom! She... Oh my gosh Maddie," he said rushing up to me and hugging me.

"Since when did you get here," his mom hissed.

"Since ten minutes ago. I didn't leave I just went for a break."

"Maddie we looked everywhere for you!"

"I don't want to talk about it."

"Ok I'm just glad you came back," he said sitting by me.

"I know y'all have got to stop arguing though!"

"I'm going to bed! I'm to disguised by my son to look at him," she said walking off.

"Y'all have major problems," I sighed.

"Yea I know it hurts me but I try to find something to distract me."

"So now I'm a distraction?"

"You are a good distraction though."

"You're such a bad liar."

"This again? How many times do I need to tell you I'm not lying?"

"I won't believe it no matter how many times you tell me."

"Why? You should already know that by now!"

"What that I'm a good distraction for people with bad lives," I joked.

"No that you are a good distraction for me."

"Why should I know that? I've never been told this before!"

He laughed"Well now you do."

"Kiss already," the owl screamed.

I laughed"What makes you think we are going to kiss?"

"The way you talk!"

"I guess that's a good reason."

"Whats wrong Maddie what did she say?"

"She said to," I leaned in and kissed him. I guess the owl was right.

"Stop Zevin! I told you a week of no kissing," his mom yelled behind us.

"I didn't agree to that. Matter of fact watch," he said and kissed me again. I laughed as his mom screamed and ran back to her room. It reminded me of Alexis.

HaHa I no I any even imagine being hunted down like that! Well..... I kinda did but still

 

The next day we left without telling his mom. We decided that we could go back to the palace and get some guards to protect us at all times. We had packed a bag with a first aid kit and some food and water.

We couldn't call a carriage because there was no signal so we walked until we could. When we did it took about an hour for it to show up but I almost screamed in delight at the sight of it.

When we got to the castle they said we had another leader meeting in two hours. Of course the whole staff got crazy with getting us ready and finding a way to match my dress with my hair.

They had trouble with my nails and my eyes because I had been outside to long according to them. I thought I was going to die if they didn't hurry up. They finally finished and let me go. I was wearing a strapless dress the color of my hair with ruffles at the bottom and heels.

I stomped down the stairs trying to break the heels hoping I wouldn't have to wear them. It didn't work. It just got the servants mad at me for messing up their stairs.

I saw Zevin in walked over.

"Do we have to dress up so nice for these meetings? I hate this! It makes me feel trapped," I said falling to the floor. I layed there non moving. Why did I need to anyway?

He laughed"Unfortunately for you yes we do. Now get up before you get in trouble!"

"I don't care if I do! What are they going to do? Ground me?"

"Yes and they would do much worse if they knew you more!"

"But they don't so I don't care!"

"Your so stubborn at times."

I laughed"Yes yes I am."

"You better get up they're coming over here!"

"Nah. I'll stay here. It's worth it."

"Get off of the floor Mrs.," yelled a servant.

I laughed"No."

"You have been warned," she said and stormed off.

I laughed even more. What where they going to do?

"Maddie! I told you! That is a bad sign!"

"Ok whatever you say."

"Wait and see after this meeting they are going to punish you!"

"Ok."

"I think the carriage is here," he said holding out a hand to help me up. I shook my head and jumped up straight on my feet. I laughed as I got up since that was the first time I've done that in years.

We walked to the carriage and we had to wait for it to start because they forgot to feed the horses and the horses wouldn't move. They finally got them fed and we got to the meeting.

"You two are always late,"the judge yelled.

"It wasn't our fault this time sir," Zevin said.

"I'm sure it wasn't Mr.Tays now if we can get along with the leader meeting now that the leaders are here."

"Of course sir," he said and we walked to the middle like usual. I'm not sure how he always talks to these people like this. I would freak out if I had to! I guess with it running in the family it isn't that hard.

"Ok the first order of business is that we had a riot at the first concert and I'm hoping not to have one at the next! You two have better figure something out or we are going to have to deal with this ourselves!"

"We can take care of his mom but if I talk to Alexis I just might end up killing her," I said honestly.

"Ok we can handle that now next thing to talk about is you two and all the trouble you are causing! We are going to have to wrap you in bubble wrap and then put a cloth around your face so no one can recognize you!"

"Well that's a bit harsh," I murmured.

"We are going to have guards watch you at all times to make sure you don't get hurt!"

"But...," I started.

"No buts! You get hurt way to much!"

"Maybe we shouldn't have left," I said to Zevin.

"Maybe not," he agreed.

"Well you did so you both get the consequences! Now you have to get ready for the meeting the sponsors tonight Mrs.Davis!"

"Meeting the sponsors?"

"Yes they are the ones who give our town money based on how much they love our leaders!"

"Well I can guarantee they will hate me!"

"Why is that?"

"Because I'm not going and none of y'all can make me!"

"I'll have you locked in prison until time of I have to! Both of you!"

"What? No! I will rat you out to the sponsors then!"

"Go ahead they can't fire me!"

"I'll make sure they can!"

"Guards! Take them to the dungeon! Both of them!"

"I will not go to the dungeon," I screamed throwing punches and kicks left and right as the guards came running to us. One of them was ready thigh and grabbed my fist and put me over his shoulder.

"LET ME GO YOU *****," I screamed as I punched his back. I wasn't going to the dungeon!

They brought us down and while Zevin was calm like he was used to it I fought back and ran as soon as the guard put me down. Unfortunately there was a guard ahead and he caught me.

I screamed and screamed and screamed until they threw me on the ground and kicked me in the cell and locked it. I winced in pain. I could taste blood and knew that wasn't good but I began searching for a exit.

"Maddie give it up! I told you to be careful or you would get hurt!"

"I don't care I'm not sitting in this dump!"

"Maddie stop," he said grabbing my shoulders"Just calm down we will get out if you calm down."

"Argh! Ok fine I will try to calm down."

"Good now sit down you need to rest."

"Ok," I said and plopped down on the floor.

"I didn't mean the floor," he laughed.

"Well I'm not sitting on those concrete beds if that's what you think."

"True the floor is better," he said sitting by me.

"How long until we meet the sponsors or whatever they are?"

"They call them sponsors but really they are the regular humans with no powers that wondered in here."

"Oh ok so they pay us money because..."

"I'm not sure."

"Hmm weird."

"I guess."

We sat in silence for a while until he spoke up"Maddie.. I don't know if they remember we are down here. The meeting started a while ago."

"Well lets break out and make a ... Grand entrance."

"Ok you can try," he laughed.

I pulled out my wand and muttered something. Then a laser shot out and I moved the wand around the bars until they fell off ad made a huge hole in the wall.

"And for extra measures..," I said and spray painted on the wall MADDIE AND ZEV WERE HERE.

We laughed as we ran out. They forgot we had magic it seems. I winced from the pain of running. I eventually stopped and took a break holding my ribs.

"Maddie what's wrong?"

"It's nothing just were they kicked me that's all."

"I don't think that's all."

"It's nothing really keep going I'm right behind you!"

"Maddie you are hurt I'm getting you to my mom."

"Gosh! Not her again!"

"Yes her," is all I remember before I blacked out.

I woke up in a strange room not knowing where I was or what I was doing here scared me to the point I got up. I had bandages all over my hips and an awful taste in my mouth. I got up ad opened the door to immediately here arguing.

"You have to help her! She is meeting the sponsors and I know they wouldn't like her if she was all messed up like this!"

"I will help very little after what she has done to you!"

"Well I still love her! No matter what she has done or what I have done it was for the better. It makes us stronger!"

"It makes you vulnerable!"

"I think it makes us stronger as well. Easier to get along with if I do say so myself," I said and immediately covered my mouth.

"Maddie!"

"Is that who I am?"

"Oh no!"

"Just kidding," I laughed. I realized where I was now and remembered what had happened.

"You little! I'm going to my room! I'm disgusted when you two are all romantic with each other! Especially when you kiss! It is so annoying that you of all the georgeous ladies of the town were chosen to date my son! Disgusting," she yelled and stormed off.

We laughed over the way she acted. I remembered my own mother and how I haven't visited in a while.

"I think I need to visit my own mom. We see yours all the time and she hates me! It would be nice to have someone who would be nice for once."

"Ok we better leave right away then before she comes back out."

I laughed"Ok," and we ran out the door and jumped in the carriage.

We arrived to the fence and ducked through into the real world. No time had really passed in my world.

We walked to my moms house laughing and talking like we had just come back from school.

I walked in the door on habit and startled my mother.

"Sorry I forgot," I whispered.

"I'm just glad you came back," she said kissing me on the forehead"And you to! Oh how long it must have been for y'all since you've seen me," she said hugging him.

"Now Zevin if you don't mind I need to talk to Maddie upstairs."

"Not at all."

"Ok well make yourself at home,"she said dragging me up to my old room.

"What do you want," I asked not knowing what was so important.

"I have to tell you this now. There was a rich family who had a son about your age. He very much liked you. I have always been so keen for being rich and never was so I thought.... This was my chance. So I told them when you were twenty one you would get married to the boy if not all ready married."

"Mom I can't have an arranged marriage!"

"Why not?"

"Because I don't know the dude and I have a boyfriend!"

"Well you could be over in the next two years! Besides its your birthday tomorrow you should be happy to have this opportunity!"

"Well I'm not!"

"Well will you at least stay until tomorrow? I want to celebrate your birthday!"

"Fine I will stay but not here!"

"Why not?"

"I don't know maybe because you are trying to make me have an arranged marriage!"

"Well you can at least stay here! Please!"

"Fine but I'm not staying in my room! I will sleep on the couch! I don't want to have memories from here floating in my head."

"That's fine," she said and we walked back downstairs.

"Is everything ok," Zevin asked"I heard screaming."

"Yea everything's fine," I mumbled sitting on the couch.

He sat by me"What's wrong?"

"Not here," I said looking at my mom"Hey mom is it ok if we go on a walk? I want to show him around some more."

"That's fine," she said and we left. I walked on what I knew was one of the quieter streets.

"What's wrong?"

"She has some something horrible."

"What?"

"She has arraigned a marriage for me! It is not unusual of course but I still don't know why she did it!"

"When?"

"When I turn twenty one. I am nineteen tomorrow so I have exactly two years before I am to get married."

"Maddie we have got to figure a way to stop this marriage!"

"How? It's all set and done! A deal!"

"I will find a way. What did she say the possibilities were of not getting an arranged marriage?"

"If I married before twenty one which I don't find possible."

"Why not?"

"I don't know. I just never thought of the future and don't think anyone would marry me when they find out of the marriage to be arranged!"

"Well that is what the future beholds," he said. It was a little weird talking to him about this but he is the only friend I've ever had.

"I really hate the future. I wish sometimes that the world would stay still and let me take a break and enjoy being free."

"Don't we all?"

"Yes that is true but I do more then ever especially now and all that's happened before.... It just frightens me with what the future holds in store."

"I am ready for the future really! I know what is to become of it and who will be in it. I've made my mind on it and determined to make the future I want."

"Well you can with your family! I have no choice!"

"That is very true. What would you choose?"

"What do you mean?"

"Would you keep your life as it is now or change it the way you want it to be and know every thing that will happen?"

"Truthfully I.... I would keep it."

"Then I see no reason to complain."

"Yeah but you don't have an arranged marriage!"

"Ah but I do!"

"To who?"

"......Rachel."

"What?!?!?!"

"Yes I know I would really prefer not to marry her. Being a leader and everything though.... They want young marriages so they have rulers that will last a while."

"Well that is a stupid rule!"

"I agree but we have to take responsibility and it's either one or the other."

"What do you mean one or the other?"

He stepped closer"It's either us together or us with people we hate."

"I'd rather not be with people I hate," I said knowing what he meant of this. It was a lot to think about being so young but leaders are leaders.

"Me either," he said looking into my eyes as if to say he didn't trust me. That feeling went away quickly when I saw the time.

"Oh no! My mom will have called the cops by now!"

"Well we better get going then," he laughed.

I took off running yelling"Last one there is a rotten egg!"

I became out of breath right in front of my block and I didn't see him in sight so I slowed down and walked. I was almost there when something grabbed me from behind.

I twisted around with a fist and saw Zevin. I laughed and put my fist down. I felt like I was 10 again running around playing hide and seek and racing my friends. This felt better though because I knew this friend wouldn't leave me as the rest did.

"I took a short cut," he said laughing.

"You cheated!"

"No I just flew here and took a short cut through the woods that's all," he said innocently.

"Thats called cheating," I laughed.

"Not if you think about it!"

"What is there to think about?"

"You could have just as easily cheated. You have the same powers as me!"

"Ok fine you win and you didn't cheat," I laughed.

"Thank you," he laughed.

"Your so very welcome," I sarcastically said.

"I don't think she called the cops yet," he laughed.

"So we raced for nothing!"

"Not for nothing," he said and right before we kissed I heard a door slam.

"You two have been gone to long! I was getting worried! I.... Oh I ruined a moment didn't I," she said seeing how close we were.

I laughed"A little."

"Well I will go back in and not ruin any more moments," she said walking back in.

I laughed"We should probably eat."

"I guess so," he laughed.

We walked in and my mom had fixed taco soup and it was quite good. After I was done I cleaned the dishes and refrigerated the excess food.

I sat on the couch sighing. I was tired and the couch seemed very comfortable at the moment. I thought of how I refused to sleep in my bed and shit my eyes tightly.

"Maddie is there something wrong," he asked sitting beside me.

"I am sleeping on the couch tonight instead of my room. I was just thinking of how comfortable it will be down here."

He laughed"Why won't you sleep in your room?"

"It it is to tearful."

"Oh bad memories huh? Well you need to sleep you've had a rough day if I do say so myself and tomorrow you will wake with it being your birthday and a pleasant surprise."

"Really? What is it?"

"I can't tell you," he laughed.

"Fine then! I see how it is," I said turning my head.

"Maddie you know I can't tell you," he said holding up my chin so he could look at me.

I sighed"I know but that doesn't keep me from trying to find out!"

"I see that," he laughed.

I yawned and got a pillow and blanket off the floor. I put the pillow on the side of the couch and wrapped the blanket around me like it was attached to me.

Zevin laughed at how I got myself so tightened up in it I couldn't move.

"Well come here I can tell you one thing of the surprise tommorow," he said.

"Yay," I excitedly said and crawled over and plopped down by him.

He whispered"It will be held at the castle."

What could that mean? What was to be held? Was it a party or something of the sort?

I got closer and said"What is to be held?"

"I can't tell you that," he said holding my hand"But I'm sure you'll like it. You do have to wear a dress though."

"Ughhhh!"

"I know I've tried to get them to change of but I've had no luck."

"Well thanks for the information anyway."

"I was told to tell you," he said kissing my forehead. I nodded my head and tried to find comfort in the couch but couldn't agree wiggling around for ten minutes.

Zevin was laughing amused at how long it took me to get relaxed. When I finally relaxed I needed water. I groaned. I got up and got some water but was unsuccessful in getting comfortable again.

"Why is it that you keep moving about?"

"I can't find a spot where I'm comfortable!"

"Well come here," he said helping me get close to him.

"Yeah," I asked.

"The secret to getting comfortable on a couch is to let it sink in."

"What does that mean?"

"It is a confusing thing," he said looking at me"It is best explained tommorow when you are rested. Try to sleep."

"Ok I will but I can't sleep on this stupid thing!"

"Well its this or the floor or the chair!"

"Ok I will sleep on the couch," I said laying back down. It felt good knowing that I would be nineteen soon.

I woke up in the morning sitting up and yawning to find my hair in a mess. Crap! I can't let Zevin see my hair!

I was almost at the foot of the stairs when he started laughing.

"You that worried about your hair?"

"Yes!"

"You usually aren't like that."

"Well...."

He laughed"Ok I will let you get away with it since you are the birthday girl."

I laughed"Good cause I don't feel like brushing my hair!"

He laughed again"I think your mom went to town for some breakfast."

"To town? Great! By that she means she will be gone for five hours trying to figure out how she needs her hair, her nails, and if she needs new clothes!"

"Well why is it so bad we are left alone?"

"Its not that. It's just....I was hoping she would be here this time."

"She will! She will be back soon."

"Ok," I said sitting on the couch.

"My mom never left when I was living with her. I couldn't do anything really."

"Really? My mom leaves all the time and I'm free to do what I want! She doesn't care a bit!

"It seems so."

"I wonder what there is to do for five hours waiting for food. Not much I'm sure of that. We can't go outside. I don't think there's any board games either to play."

"Well theres not much."

"No," I agreed"That's what I always hated when I was home alone. I had nothing to do."

"Yes but then you were alone."

I laughed"Well even with two people there's not much more to do!"

He laughed"We can find something."

"Well we better hurry cause other wise I will get bored out of my wits," I said hanging upside down on the couch.

"You can die like that you know!"

"It's better then dying bored!"

"It is not!"

"Is to!"

"Will you get up if there is something fun to do?"

"Yes! Why did you think of one," I said jumping up.

He laughed"Yes."

"What?!?"

"Come here!"

"Ugh! Tell me!"

"I will if you come over here!"

"Fine," I said crawling over to him.

He laughed as I fell on my feet and tried to get them out from under me.

"Yes," I said once I got my feet untangled.

"One question first."

"What?!"

"Why are you so bored? It's your birthday!"

"It's always more boring on birthdays!"

"Ok you win," he laughed.

"Ok now what?!"

"Your so impatient!"

"And your so stalling!"

"Yes I am!"

"Why?"

"Because you look so cute when your mad."

"Ugh! Tellllll meeee!"

"Ok fine I thought I had an idea but I forgot it."

I gaped"What do you mean?"

He laughed"I'm just kidding!"

"Then what is it," I laughed.

"Ok you really want to know?"

"Oh my gosh! Yes I want to know!"

"Ok," he said and stopped.

"What?"

"Just thinking."

"What could you possibly be thinking about when I'm about to die of boredom?!"

He laughed"You can see for yourself," he said.

I was frustrated and read his mind. There was nothing there! He wasn't blocking his mind though!

"You are not thinking!"

He laughed"You didn't look good enough!"

"Just tell me already!"

"Ok," he said and leaned in as though he were going to whisper. He didn't though. He stopped and stared into my eyes for a while. Then he leaned in more. I leaned in to staring him straight in the eyes smiling.

Are lips was as close as they could get without touching and I closed my eyes. I leaned in and we kissed.

I was shocked as the door slammed open a couple hours later. I jumped up out of my seat flying up in the air and landing in the same spot still as close as could ever be.

I closed my eyes trying to breath. The door had slammed open from the heavy winds. I walked over and shut the door and sat back down. I sighed as I sat.

I looked into his eyes and could tell he wished just as much as I did that we weren't interrupted. I tried to comb my fingers through my hair but they got stuck.

Zevin laughed as I untangled my fingers from my hair.

"That door came out of no where," I murmured.

"Yea It shocked me a little when it opened."

"Shocked? I flew up in the air!"

"I saw that," he laughed.

I checked the time on the microwave. About an hour until she came back maybe longer or shorter.

"An hour to blow," I said turning to look at him.

"Really? It certainly hasn't seemed that long!"

"No," I agreed.

"Maddie...."

"Yea?"

"I don't think that was out of nowhere."

"What do you mean?"

"What I mean is right now I am frozen to this spot and can't move."

"Why not?"

"Your necklace is supposed to protect you. It is doing that right now. When you shut the door I became frozen."

"Oh crap! Why necklace? I was having a good time," I said trying to find a way to take it off.

He laughed at my struggles"Let me help."

He touched the necklace and it fell in his hand.

"How..."

"Magic," he said shrugging.

"Hm."

"Now that's gone," he said putting it on the coffee table.

"I don't think it should bother us now," I said scooting closer.

"No it seems I can move now," he said looking at me in the eyes as if studying me and my behavior.

I stared back wondering what he was thinking. I could probably tell if I wanted to but I didn't. I just stared into his blue eyes just as he was mine.

I leaned in and whispered"We don't have much time left alone you know?"

He laughed and leaned in and whispered"Better make the best of it."

I smiled. Even though we had between fifteen to thirty minutes and didn't want to get caught by my mom we kissed. The necklace didn't try to interrupt us this time.

I couldn't tell what time it was but I was to happy to care. I knew of I was caught kissing him I would be most likely kicked out for a while. My mom was mad about the breakup and everything same as his mom. She thought we were still broken up.

"ughhm," I heard a voice behind us. I froze in total shock. She couldn't have sneaked in without us hearing could she?

I pulled apart and looked back in terror. It was her and she had all the groceries on the counter.

"Yes," I murmured.

"Maddie I need to talk to you."

"Not alone!"

"Well then I guess I will say it now then."

"Go ahead."

"I can tell you right now that I have been watching you since I came back about three hours ago."

I blushed. No way she has been there that long!

"And you looked happy and I am proud of you."

I gaped. What just happened?

"I am," I said loudly.

"Good! Now I'll make breakfast before the ball."

"Wait a minute. What ball?"

"Zevin you haven't told her?"

He shook his head"I will. Maddie this is something I have to tell you alone. Is there anywhere else we can go?"

"My old room," I suggested.

"Perfect," he said dragging me up the stairs.

"Yeah," I asked when we had sat down on my bed.

"There is going to be a ball as there always is when someone turns nineteen. It is to be said they are horrible for the regular girls. I am not sure how it will be for a leader as they always show embarrassing videos and photos that has happened in your life. I will escort you of course but they are also expecting you to have the first dance."

"I can't dance!"

"Of course you can!"

"No I can't! I never learned!"

"Well I will teach you. Come on we will need to go somewhere that has more room. That is all you need know about the ball for now," he said dragging me back downstairs.

"Mom is it ok if we move some of this furniture," I asked as we walked in the living room.

"Yea why?"

"Because your daughter apparently doesn't know how to dance."

"What? You should!"

"Ugh! Ok I get it!"

We moved the furniture to the side. We stood in the middle if the room in position to dance. This was all I knew how to do when you dance.

"Ok you have to move your feet along with mine. They have to match so you don't step on my toes and so it doesn't look like you just learned how to walk," he joked.

"Ok," I laughed.

I watched his feet and tried to match his and mine together. After a while I got the hang of it and we were dancing around the house like it was nothing.

"Ok you two!"

I laughed and sat at the table out of breath. I was taking deep breaths tired from dancing. I got a water and had it down faster then lightning could strike.

Zevin laughed at how tired I was. I stuck my tongue out and sat my head down.

"You are going to have to dance more then that you know?"

"What? Ugh!"

"Orders up," my mom yells.

I walk in and fixed a plate of the breakfast food and scarfed it down. As soon I was finished I ran up to my room looking for something I used to love. It was my old fight necklaces and I wanted make sure they were still safe.

They were still where thy were last time and I sighed of relief and went back downstairs.

"So when is the ball?"

"In about five hours," my mom said without looking.

"Oh when are we having to go back."

"Now," she said opening the door before the people out there could knock.

"By mom! Love you," I yelled as me and Zevin were pushed out of the house.

"They have to be so pushy," I muttered.

As we arrived we got separated and I was afraid of the dress I would have to wear. They did a basic straight hair and hardly any makeup.

I was put in a big poofy dress. It was blue and had jewels all over it. I had glass heels because I was to look like Cinderella on this lovely night. I laughed when they told me this.

I wasn't allowed to see Zevin until the ball started and I had the first dance with him. By the time I was done getting ready I was behind the burtsins if the stage waiting for guests to arrive.

"Welcome guests to Madelin Davis' nineteenth birthday ceromony! Welcome your leaders," the booming voice in the speaker said and I walked out seeing it as my time to walk out.

I waved and smiled and saw Zevin on the other side doing the same. I walked over to him as he walked to me. We hugged and he whispered in my ear"Are you ready?" I nodded my head and we got in dancing position.

The music started as we moved our feet lightly across the stage as though we were dancing in air. When the music ended we bowed and walked off the stage.

"If you hadn't taught me how to dance earlier I would have been so embarrassed," I laughed.

"It was so simple though," he said laughing with me.

Someone came up to us and talked to us before we could talk with each other. The whole time I thought of my arranged marriage and how rich he was. I thought of how I would be at parties like this all the time. It just didn't seem apealing to me.

As I danced and watched everyone else dance I couldn't stop thinking of it. Two years from now married. Just like in the old times.

We all sat down as they started the videos of me. I laughed at some and hid my face on others. There was some that embarrassed me but not as much as the last ones.

It was earlier when we got caught kissing. My face was red as they replayed us at school, at his Moms house, and earlier getting caught kissing when we knew it was forbidden.

Then was a video of the day the sun froze. I was embarrassed but pleased.

When it was over I was the first to leave and I took off to an empty room. I sat down on the bed and put my head in my hands.

Someone opened the door and I looked up.

"What's wrong," Zevin asked sitting by me.

"They embarresed me in front of the whole town!"

"Yea I know they tend to do that."

"I don't know why they are so mean after all I haven't done anything to them!"

"I know it's happened to everyone."

I nodded my head. I still couldn't get the marriage off my mind.

"Maddie you don't have to worry about an arranged marriage you know."

"Yes I do! They will make me marry him no matter what we say!"

"Yes I know. I rather hate the idea of marrying Rachel. She did kidnap me and everything!"

"I know it's a dreadful thought but I guess it was forced apon us. They could just as easily change it to an earlier date!"

"I agree but we can stop it."

"Whay do you mean?"

"We cab stop all this nonsense and run off!"

"But to where?"

"Away. Just away from being leader and forced into marriage!"

"We can't! We have to stay and rule over the people or they could get a leader who is bad for them!"

"Fine we can stay but there's only one other option."

I nodded my head. It was the only way.

"We can talk later. I don't feel safe to talk in this room."

"Yes as though we are being watched."

"Yea we might need to leave before they find us and become suspicious."

"Wait Maddie," he said grabbing my arm as I got up.

"Yeah," I said sitting back down.

"Do you think there are really people watching us?"

"Yes."

"Well lets give then a show," he smiled.

I smiled and turned to him. We made the plan that if someone was to come in then we would act all guilty to make it worse.

We kissed for about five minutes before someone cane running in saying we were needed. We laughed silently knowing that they just was afraid of us setting a bad example.

We were sent back down to the ball room laughing of what happened and how freaked everyone was.

There on the huge tv screen was us walking down laughing. I stopped and watched the screen. They had been watching us!

Zevin tugged on my arm and I looked out to see a carriage. I smiled and we ran for it. We made it hardly.

We jumped in and was took to the castle. We ran inside with reporters behind us. We slammed the doors laughing.

We ran upstairs in a random bedroom and shut the door still laughing. I sat on the bed my dress poking into my side. It hurt really bad as I tried to keep it from poking me. I finally got it and got comfortable as Zevin sat beside me.

I was panting and out of breath. I had my head down trying to breath.

Zevin lifted up my chin so I looked at him. We gazed into each others eyes for a while non speaking. I closed my eyes and looked down.

"What's wrong?"

"I was thinking again."

"Maddie you have a way out and you can be happy!"

"I know it just upsets me I have to get married at age nineteen because they want young married leaders to last."

"I feel the same way but there's nothing we can do."

"I know I just wish there was," I whispered playing with my hands.

He grabbed my hands and I looked up at him. I had goosebumps on my arms and legs from the cold room.

"Me to," he whispered back looking at me like he would never let go.

"This dress is bothering me," I said hastily.

"I bet it looks uncomfortable."

"It is."

"It looks good on you though."

I blushed"Thanks."

"You look embarrassed," he said smiling.

"A little," I said staring at the ground.

"Don't be."

"I can try," I said lifting my head up.

"We better go back down before they find us. Remember last time!"

I laughed"Yes! At least get out of this dress though!"

We ran downstairs and met with two angry servants who took us separate ways. They brought me to my room and got the dress off and put in some pajama shorts and a spaghetti strapped undershirt on. I usually wore this stuff so it was ok.

I snuck down to the kitchen to get something to eat and then bumped into someone on the way.

"I'm so sorry!"

"Maddie it's just me," the person laughed. Zevin.

"You sneaking food to?"

"Yea I didn't eat today and I know you didn't for sure!"

"No," I laughed as we went in and stole some bread and water since they wouldn't notice them missing.

When I was done we were separated again so we wouldn't get caught. I always liked getting caught though! It was more fun.

As I walked to where I thought my room was I stopped. Where is my necklace? Oh no! My moms. Ugh! I continued to walk and it was my room. I flopped on my bed as the servants were coming in to check on m. I told them I would be asleep soon and they didn't have to check on me.

I was laying side ways on the bed ad my head hanging off the side. I heard the door open. Didn't I tell them to not come check on me?

"I thought I told you that you could die like that already," the person at the door said.

I smiled and sat up"Well now look who's being sneaky," and layed back with my head hanging off.

"Well I had to come! It was so boring and I could tell you were just as bored."

"Yea," I laughed"You better shut the door before they notice. We are right in front of the stairs."

"Ok," he said shutting the door and sitting by me.

"I wonder if this wall is old."

"Yes I think so why?"

"I was going to try to do a handstand on the wall or attempt to any way," I laughed.

"I don't think the wall will collapse on you!"

"No I guess not but I won't do it!"

I sat up and shook my head. I hit it on the way up.

"Get hurt?"

"I bumped my head," I laughed.

He laughed. I heard a noise and I immediately jumped up in fighting position. I watched as a mouse ran by. I laughed at myself for getting so freaked.

"I was thinking about something earlier," I said sitting back down.

"What?"

"My necklace. I left it at my moms!"

"We can get that back easy!"

"Ok good. I was wanting it earlier. I guess I left it on the table after I took it off."

"Yea after it interrupted us," he laughed.

"Yea," I said laughing with him.

I turned over and flopped on my back with my head on a pillow. I sat there motionless with my arms out and legs straight out. I was watching the fan in circles. It went to fast!

"You look so entertained," he laughed as I reached my hand up to touch it.

"Dont really touch it," he said grabbing my hand. I looked over at him with my pitiful face that usually got me whatever I wanted.

"That look won't work!"

"Why," I said still giving him the look.

"Because I used to use that look when I wanted something! You are not breaking your fingers!"

"Fine," I said turning away.

"Maddieee."

"No!"

"But Maddie! You can't break your fingers! That's why I stopped you! You better talk to me!"

"Then say your sorry."

"I am NOT sorry."

"Ugh!"

"Sorry I'm not sorry Maddie."

"Still not an apology!"

"You better calm down before they hear you telling and come in here an find me."

"Fine I'll talk but I'm not turning back over."

"Why?"

"Its comfy laying like this!"

He laughed"Well then."

"Fine," I said sitting up and still not looking at him. I turned around and stuck my tongue out and laughed.

"Maddie! Dont be mad."

"To late."

"No," he said grabbing me around the waist and pulled me over to him.

I laughed"It tickles!"

"Them you should have turned around," he smirked laying my head on his chest.

"But I didn't want to because I couldn't look at the shadow of the fan!"

He laughed"You are a bad liar. Have I told you that?"

"Yes several times," I laughed.

"Thought so," he smiled.

"I try though!"

"I'll give you credit for that," he laughed.

"Yay!"

"So what did you think of your ball?"

"It was embarrassing!"

"Really," he said holding my hands"I thought it was better then most of the girls I had to go to was."

"Really? I never would have thought so. It was horrible!"

"Not all of it!"

"No not all," I agreed"It wasn't as much a waste as I thought it would be."

"Well nothing is ever a waste!"

"No I suppose not," I laughed.

I watched the fan again and I was about to reach up when he held me back. Dang it! I forgot he had my hands!

"Ugh!"

"You can't touch it Maddie!"

"Fine," I muttered and looked straight ahead at the closet. I decided to look at the fan again and watched it go by. I felt like a cat stalking a fish waiting to pounce.

"I wonder of anyone has noticed me gone."

"They will soon," I said blinking my eyes.

"Probably but when they do it will take them a while to realize I'm in here."

"Yes if we are still awake we must pretend to sleep. That way they will wait for punishment in the morning."

He laughed"I have never thought of that before!"

"Really? I used to do it all the time!"

"Never once!"

"Hmm strange."

"Strange?"

"Yes every kid has done that before. It is one of the oldest tricks!"

"Well I never did!"

"Well watch this is what you do," I said and flopped to the other side and layed still with my eyes closed.

"Well looks easy enough."

"It is not! You have to be perfectly still and you can't close your eyes to tight!"

"Ok ok!"

"You try it and see how easy it is."

"Fine I will," he said and fell back and closed his eyes.

"You look like you've done this before!"

"I haven't though!"

"Well you are to good at it then!"

He laughed"No practice and I am already considered good? Told you it was easy!"

"Is not," I said turning away again.

"Maddie don't do that again!"

"Why shouldn't I?"

"Because I will just do this," he said grabbing me by the waist and pulling me back over again.

I laughed"Ok I won't do it again!"

"Good!"

"I'm not going to turn my head though!"

"Why not Maddie?"

"Cause you are to good at fake sleeping to not have tried it once when you were a kid!"

"That's not my fault!"

"Fine," I said turning my head back towards him.

"Thank you!"

I laughed"You didn't need to see my face anyways!"

"Oh but I did."

"Nuh uh!"

"Did to!"

I stared and we had a staring contest. I leaned in closer. I was going to win! I was about to blink and I could feel it.

I blinked and sighed. I put my head down on the bed and didn't move.

"Maddie you know I had already blinked right?"

"Liar!"

"No you were just to focused to notice!"

I lifted my head up. I think he was telling the truth. How could I not notice? To focused like he said I guess.

"I think they figured out I was missing," he laughed as I heard a scream.

I laughed"Seems like it."

"I hope they don't find me for a while."

"Me to."

I smiled and watched the door. It didn't move for a couple minutes so I turned back towards him. I was still smiling but I didn't know why.

He smiled to and I looked at the door one more time. I was hoping that no one would come barging in. They didn't.

I got closer and found myself still smiling. We leaned in and kissed. I still felt all tingly when we kissed. It made me feel good though so I didn't mind. I was getting sleepy but I did my best to stay awake. I couldn't anymore and stopped kissing and layed my head on his shoulder and fell asleep.

I woke up in the morning still laying on him. I looked at the door and servants were staring at us. I shook Zevin and when he woke he was smiling but I shook my head and pointed at the door. The smile quickly went away.

They grabbed Zevin and took him out of the room but not before he could kiss me one last time. They took me out to. I tried kicking them which made it worse. They only hung on tighter.

I screamed at them as they locked me in another room. I almost knocked the door down once but they quickly fixed it. I saw a picture frame. I wonder.....

I moved it aside and sure enough there was a tunnel. I grabbed a chair and a flashlight out if the door and hopped in. I kicked the chair away and turned on the flashlight. I put the picture back and started crawling.

I came to another door. I moved it aside to find another room. I saw Zevin in a chair his head in his hands.

I jumped down"Hey!"

He jumped up and I started laughing.

"Maddie how...," he looked at the painting"You are so smart."

"I know! Come on this time I might need to take some turns but I'm glad I didn't the first time!"

He laughed"Well let's go!"

I jumped in and with him behind me I took random turns not caring where we ended up. I opened the next painting I found and it lead outside. I jumped out happy to see sunlight.

I saw a tree and ran over to sit under it. I hopped down on the ground. Zevin had just jumped out when I had fell over and started laughing struggling to get up. I got up still laughing as he sat beside me.

"Wonder why they trapped us up like that? We didn't do anything!"

"Yea I know but they automatically think the worse. When they notice we are gone they'll come looking again."

"Great," I murmured. What was the point if escaping I'd we are just going to get caught again?

Just then a gardener came out and I froze. He dropped all his things and yelled something and ran to us. I laughed at them struggling to keep us apart.

Finally the others came who were stronger and pulled us apart taking us to our stylists. They dressed me into a t-shirt and shorts and my hair in a ponytail.

I walked down stairs and grabbed a piece of bacon, a water bottle, and walked out the door. I didn't know where I was going but I walked until I couldn't walk anymore.

I sat on the ground and drank some water. I had already ate the bacon and was not that hungry anyway.

I got back up and walked the direction I can from and came back to the castle. The gates were locked and I couldn't get through! I knocked and rang the doorbell but no one came!

I sat outside the gate waiting. A servant came out and saw me and ran back in. What was going on? Were they trying to keep me out?

I waited longer but still no one came. Finally Zevin comes out on his phone looking nervous. He saw me and ran over.

He had his hands on the gates yelling something. I couldn't hear what it was I tried to yell back but nothing came out. I sat there with blurry vision. What was happening?

I was carried in the castle and soon I could see and hear again.

"Maddie! Are you ok," someone said in the door.

I nodded my head"Heat."

"Yes you were close to a heat stroke!"

"Well I'm not now and I want out of here and to see why why why..."

I looked and saw that I was in my room not a hospital. I was confused. Why am I here?

He came over and hugged me"I got you out of it I knew you wouldn't like the place so I sent you here."

"Thank you."

"It's nothing I'm just glad your ok again."

"Again." I laughed.

We laughed for a minute and my eyes started closing.

"Maddie don't fall asleep! You might not wake up," he said shaking me.

"Well how am I supposed to stay awake when I can't move?"

He sat by me"You can move just can't get up."

"Even better," I said sarcastically.

We sat unmoving for a while. I was worrying about the punishment we would get because they already took it to extremes what could they do now that's worse?

Later on we were told we had visitors. My mom, his mom, and his dad walked through the door. I hid down in the bed. This is what they could do.

"Maddie get out now," my mom yells. I crawl out and sit there waiting for the lecture.

They all just stared us down. Whatever the servants had told them they were mad about.

"Zevin, you knew I hated her.... Yet you still....," his mom started.

"Mom that's not what it was!"

"That's what we were told."

"Well you were told wrong," he snapped.

"Son don't smart your mother," his dad said.

"Ha! Me smart her? No! She has been horrible to Maddie and I won't deal with it anymore! You all need to get out before you make her worse! She almost had a heat stroke because these people wouldn't let her in and you are worrying about this? You need to leave."

"Fine," she said and walked out. His dad and my mom walked out after her.

"I could have heard the speech you know? I wouldn't have freaked."

"Yes but I would because they don't have it right."

"Yea."

I layed my head on his shoulder. What were we going to do? The whole town would know soon! It was all lies to!

I sighed. What could we do?

A servant came barging in saying we were needed right away. They rushed us to the town as fast as possible for a leader meeting. We knew what this was about.

We arrived and the judge looked mad.

"We can't have this! You two both know better! This town needs a leader and that is obviously not y'all!"

"Wait do you mean.... We are being kicked out," I asked.

"Yes! You two can no longer see each other! Banned!"

I sank to my knees"You can't do this! I will be dead before you will separate us! We will find a way!"

"No you won't because you are living with your mom and he with his!"

"No no no no no no no no no no NO NO NO," I said and ran outside. I fell over and started crying. They couldn't do this!

"Maddie! It's ok we will find a way! Don't cry! Please," he said standing beside me.

I shook my head. There is no way! There isn't!

"Come on Maddie! I will pick you up if I have to! You don't weigh anything!"

I shook my head again. Nothing could be done to keep me from dying right here.

I could see him now. He was bent over me. He picked me up and I struggled but was unsuccessful at getting out.

"Don't," I whispered.

"I'm going to. I will take you back to your mom," he said and we flew away over the fence. I didn't really care for being a leader anyway. Let someone else take over! I don't care a bit!

We got to my house and e knocked on the door. When my mom opened it she gasped and let us in. I was set down on the couch while they talked.

I had a headache and was sure I could smell blood on my face.

"Well you can stay here," my mom said suddenly.

"No I couldn't we were banned."

"Who cares? I won't let something like that keep y'all apart! She loves you more then anything!"

"I know and I feel the same but I don't know of they will let me go home to what I know."

"They will have to for school! The both of ya!"

"I hope."

"Y'all can help me you know," I said as loudly as possible.

"Oh I'm sorry I forgot," she said and something hit my head. A spell. My head was instantly healed and I sat up.

I rubbed my head. Zevin came and sat by me examining me. I still felt dizzy but I was okay.

"Well Maddie you better go get some rest," my mom said looking at me to. I nodded my head and slowly walked to my room. I was trying up the stairs but couldn't quite make it. Zevin helped me up to my room and when I sat down on the bed I saw him looking at me.

"What?"

"You took it like you would die."

"I would and will unless you stay."

He sat by me"But what if I can't."

"Then I will rot away in this room refusing to eat and drink."

"Maddie..."

"Yea?"

"Well... I kinda don't believe you," he said smiling.

"Oh really?"

"Really!"

"Then I guess you will have to see for yourself and watch me die my slow painful death," I joked.

He smiled"You can always make me smile in a bad time."

"Yes well it isn't any good to not smile and be sad for a while."

"I guess."

"I'm going to sleep now I think I might need to."

"Ok go ahead," he said kissing my forehead.

He left and I turned over. I closed the door and put on a spaghetti strap shirt and some pajama shorts. I turned on the radio. I sat back on the bed instantly falling asleep.

When I woke up I could smell diner. I walked down the stairs rubbing my eyes. I could smell it more and more the closer I got. I was grabbed by behind and I screamed.

I looked behind me and sitting there laughing was Zevin. I Punched him and yelled"That's not funny," and started laughing.

I walked over to the couch and layed down. I hung my head off the side and sighed. I was not one of those people who was up and ready to go when I woke up.

"I told you about that," he said sitting by my head.

"Oh yea."

"Yea well what if you died right then right after I told you," he said lifting my head gently and putting it on his chest.

"I don't know I'm to sleepy to care," I said yawning.

"Well then you would be dead was the answer I was looking for but ok."

I laughed a little"Where is my mom?"

"Uhhhhh....."

"Where is she?"

"She had to talk to someone," he said hastily.

"Oh ok," I said wondering why that was so bad"What smells so good?"

"Diner."

"I know but what is diner?"

"It's a meal!"

I laughed"Never mind!"

"Ok she said not to eat without her until she gets back."

"When is that?"

"Three hours or so I suppose."

"Ok," I said closing my eyes.

"You just woke up don't go back to sleep!"

"Ugh! Why?"

"Because I finally get to talk to you and you just want to go back to sleep."

"Ugh!"

He laughed as I looked around and saw Christmas decorations all over the house.

My mom always hid a mistletoe somewhere and I was on careful watch of it every year. He had got up and went upstairs. I sat there still tired.

"Maddie come here," he yelled.

"Coming," I yelled back and got up and went upstairs.

"Hello," I said when I got up there.

"In here!"

"Coming," I said and went in my brothers room who no longer lived here"Yeah?"

"Come here," he said patting beside him. I went and sat on the bed beside him.

"Now what do you want?"

"Just for you to come here."

"Well that makes no sense at all!"

"Yea it does!"

I looked around the room remembering every detail of it. I saw decorations all around. Then I saw the real reason I was up here. I smiled. Mistletoe was hidden in this room.

He smiled back seeing that I noticed.

"I knew you was a liar!"

"Yes I am but I don't lie about everything."

"No," I laughed. I looked up again. The mistletoe was right above our heads.

I was still half asleep but not asleep enough to know what this was about.

We both leaned in and I was ready for another stare off but knew I was to sleepy.

We kissed and I was still sleepy but I managed to stay awake. I felt like the mistletoe was growing right above our heads. Sure enough it was. They hit my head and we had to duck and they grew so much I fell over on the bed.

I was laughing at it. It stopped growing as we stopped kissing. I knew it was enchanted and that it would soon cover the whole room.

I curled up in a ball and tried to keep from touching it. Zevin laughed as I wiggled trying to stay away from it.

I was finally away from it but I had to get up really close on Zevin to stop it from getting me. It stopped when I was right there. Zevin wrapped his arms around me and I watched the mistletoe go back to its normal way.

I turned towards Zevin who was also watching it.

"What is that?"

"I guess your mom enchanted it!"

"Yea I guess."

I turned back around. If my mom came she would kill us!

"What's wrong?"

"This is what got us kicked in the first place!"

"So? They can't do anything now!"

"I guess."

The mistletoe was growing again. I scooted back some more scared even more. It came closer and closer. I turned around and buried my head in his chest. It was at my feet now and it grabbed my legs and dropped them so I wasn't hanging off anymore.

I sighed as it went back.

"I don't like that mistletoe. It's weird."

"I agree," he laughed.

We looked into each others eyes and I felt a staring contest coming on. It didn't though. We smiled and kissed again. This time the mistletoe was still.

I was awake now. After that mistletoe attacked I was fully aware of what was going around me.

I stopped and took a breath. I looked at the mistletoe. It was still the same.

"I wonder how much longer until my mom gets here," I murmured.

"Does it matter?"

"No I guess not," I smiled.

"I AM HOME," someone downstairs screamed. Crap!

I looked at Zevin and got up. He took my hand and pulled me back down.

"Zevin she's back!"

"So?"

"So she can not know!"

"Why not?"

"Because she will kill us both now come on I'm starving!"

We got up and walked hand in hand downstairs. My mom stared at us for a while and fixed diner. When we got done eating I felt a whole lot better.

I layed on the couch and closed my eyes. I was full! My stomach was hurting and I had a headache. Next thing you know I'll be having strep throat!

"Maddie come here," my mom said.

I went over to her and she dropped her voice to a whisper"What happened?"

"What do you mean?"

"You two were all happy and stuff!"

"So that's normal," I said and layed back on the couch.

I was sure that I could die any minute now!

"Mom do you have any medicine?"

"Uhhh yea I think let's see.... Yep here it is," she said grabbing a couple pills and tossing them to me.

I got a drink and swallowed them. I hate taking pills.

I wonder why I feel sick? I haven't been outside! It's cold yes but still!

I sat there my eyes closed unmoving. I took deep breaths for I felt as though my throat was closing up.

"Maddie are you ok," my mom asked watching me closely.

"I don't know."

"Well I'm taking you to the hospital come on," she said grabbing her keys. I looked at Zevin and mouthed HELP ME!!!

He shook his head and mouthed back THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO!

I nodded my head and got up. He helped me walk over to the car and we all drove to the hospital. My mom signed me in and we waited.

They called my name and we walked back. They took a couple tests and it took forever to get the results!

"You have a rare kind of food poison," the doctor said eyeing me as though I was a germ.

"What is it?"

"It is from rare fruits most of the time but I don't see how you could get it! No such fruits are around here! You can't buy them either! I don't know how you managed it. You will have to take two pills three times a day for four months. It should be able to heal on its own by then," he said and have me a prescription. He walked out and we went and payed.

On the way home my mom got the pills eyeing me.

"I don't know how you got food poisoning girl!"

"Me either."

We got home and I was to start taking the pills tommorow. I went straight to my room and shut the door. I turned on the radio and turned off the lights. I sat there motionless. How did I get it? Was these fruits available in the magic world and if so how was I given this?

I sat there and thought of all the possibilities. None of them made sense.

My thoughts were interrupted as someone knocked on the door.

"COME IN," I yelled over the blaring music.

Zevin opens the door and walks in shutting it back behind him.

I turned down the radio to a low whisper and said"Yeah?"

"I was told to come in and check if you are ok," he said sitting down by me.

"Yea I am just trying to figure how I got this."

"Yea it's a mystery to all of us."

I nodded my head. Would the medicine work or would it just make it stronger?

"You don't look to well. Are you sure your ok?"

I sighed"I guess."

He felt my head"You have a temperature. I'll go get you a rag and some water stay here."

I nodded my head. Now that I thought about it I was a little hot.

He came back up a couple minutes later with a cup of water and a cold wet rag. I took a huge gulp of water as he folded the rag and put it on my head.

"I watched my mom a lot," he said sitting back down.

"I just figured it was in your blood."

He laughed"It might be!"

I laughed and sat the cup on the dresser. I watched a ring of water form around it.

"I think I want to go on a walk," I said sitting up"It might help."

"Ok come on. I'll help you. You still look a little weak."

"Ok," I said and he helped me out of the bed. I slowly walked down the stairs.

"Mom We're going on a walk," I yelled as I opened the door and walked out. I was hit with a rush of cold wind but I kept walking forward.

After awhile I had to stop and take a rest and he helped me sit on a bench. I started shivering from the cold. Why is it so cold?

"Are you cold," he joked.

"No," I said sarcastically.

"Well that's to bad! Come here."

I scooted over and he wrapped his arms around me. How was he so warm? I was about to freeze into a popsicle!

I layed my head ok his chest and tried to stop my teeth from chattering. I finally managed to and tried getting me to stop shaking.

I did and then said"I think I need to go back."

"Ok come on," he said helping me up. We walked back and when we opened the door I walked over to the couch and slammed down with all my weight.

I started shivering until mom brought me a blanket. I put on some warm socks and a hoodie and wrapped my legs mostly in the blanket and tried to get warm.

Zevin came and sat by me. He let me burry my head in his chest for warmth and wrapped his arms around me.

"Awww! You two are so sweet! I need a picture," my mom said dogging her phone out of her purse.

I hid my face while Zevin laughed at me.

"To many pictures!"

"Done with that one! I want one of you two kissing! It will make such good Christmas gifts!"

"Mom I think there's enough of those already."

"Well!"

"I would but I think she might pass on her poison," Zevin joked.

"Shut up! I would not!"

He and my mom laughed.

"Just one pleaseeeeee! For me? Just one! Come on," she said holding out her camera.

"Fine but if a news reporter gets a hold of these I'm going to beat you!"

She laughed"Deal."

"Ok I know how you are about pictures so where do you want us to go for the picture?"

"I was thinking outside in the snow. Or in the doorway under mistletoe! That would be so cute!"

"Ugh! Make up your mind!"

"Fine I'll tell you if you put something nice on!"

I sighed and ran upstairs. I put on a sweater and a scarf. Then I put on my necklace and jeans. Then I put on boots and my hair in a ponytail.

I ran back downstairs"This ok?"

"Perfect! Now you two get in the door!"

"Bossy," I murmured walking to the door.

"Wait let me through," she screamed running out in the snow.

I laughed and got in the door. Zevin came over and got in front of me.

"Ok you ready?"

"Yea!"

"Wait! What if she gives me germs," Zevin screamed.

I laughed and playfully punched him in the arm"We went over this!"

"Just checking," he smiled.

"Whatever!"

"Hurry up you two it's cold," my mom screamed.

We laughed and got back in our spots. I had to get on my tippy toes just to reach him.

"Now," my mom screamed.

We laughed at her and kissed for the picture.

"Done! No more now!"

I laughed at her and pulled apart.

Zevin ran off and before I knew what had happened I had snow in my hair.

"Score," Zevin screamed across the yard.

"Oh it's on," I said and ducked behind a bush and made a lot of snowballs.

"Fire in the hole," I screamed and pegged him with snowballs.

I fell back down laughing trying to make a big bomb out of snow.

"Attack," he screamed and I heard it right by me.... Crap!

I screamed as he hot me with snowballs. When he ran out I fell on the ground and acted dead.

"Oh no," he screamed and picked me up and starting running around screaming like crazy with me in his arms.

"I'm alive I'm alive! Gosh!"

He laughed"You almost gave me a heart attack! Then I would've died to!"

I laughed as he put me back down. I layed down and starting making a snow angel.

"You need to make one!"

"Ok," he laughed and sat down by me making a snow angel. We got up and looked at them. I jumped in his and took off running. I laughed and fell down.

"Hey," he screamed and had took off after me. When I fell he had rushed over there falling by me.

"I see how you fell now," he laughed.

I laughed and got up and tried to run but he was to quick. He grabbed my arm and pulled me back down. We rolled down the side of the hill on the lawn. I was laughing trying to get up. He kept me down though and I couldn't move.

When we got stopped we landed in a big bunch with snow falling off of us. I was laughing still with snow falling off my hair.

"Well you seemed to get the most of the snow," he said sitting up.

I laughed and got up"Seems so!"

He pulled me back down again. I screamed and tried to get back up again but he had me stuck. I layed there defeated and couldn't move.

"I win," he screamed.

"Did not! I almost beat you but you cheated!"

"But you have the most snow on you!"

"And who's fault is that?!"

He laughed"Tie?"

"Fine! Can we get up now," I laughed.

"Ok fine," he said and let go. I got up and brushed the snow off and shook my head.

"You getting up?"

"No!"

"Why?"

"Because I have to do this," he said and through the last snowball at me"See I won!"

I laughed"Fine!"

I helped him up and we walked back in ad my mom fixed some hot chocolate. It didn't warm me up any!

I was freezing!

After I finished my drink I grabbed a blanket and curled up on the couch. I should have worn a jacket!

"Maddie what is wrong with you," my mom asked walking over to me.

"Cold," I muttered.

"Well I'll turn the heat on! One minute," she said and walked off.

"Cold again? You would think the warm drink would help," Zevin said sitting by me.

I nodded my head. I was to cold to talk. Stupid snow! It's supposed to be fun its not supposed to freeze you!

"I guess that's my fault though."

I shook my head. I would have stayed out there anyway.

"To cold to talk to me?"

"I can try," I said as loud as I could.

"Ok don't hurt yourself though."

I laughed"How could I? I'm not accident prone!"

He laughed at me"Yea your sooo not accident prone."

I laughed"Nope."

"Well maybe that will help," mom said coming back in the living room.

"I hope," I murmured.

"You look like a smurf," she exclaimed looking at my face.

"Uh huh."

"Maddie that's not good!"

"Ok."

"Maddie!"

"Maddie your moms right. It's not good if your so cold your face is blue," Zevin said.

"Yep."

"I don't know anything we can do Maddie! You will just have to warm up on your own," my mom said worriedly.

"Fine."

"Maddie! Ugh," she yelled and walked off.

"Maddie you made her mad."

"Yea."

"I see why but you can't help your cold."

"No," I agreed.

"Come here. I'm warm as can get. I'm used to cold," he said pulling me over to him.

"Ok," I said fixing the blankets back over my legs and laying my head on his arm.

I was so cold! I don't know how I am though! We weren't out there that long!

My mom came back in muttering something under her breath about a disappearing brush. She looked at me and stopped.

"Your face.... It's almost regular now," she said looking like she was in awe.

"Really? I feel freezing," I said putting my hands on my face. I did feel a little warm.

"Well you don't look it that's for sure!"

"Ok."

"Now have y'all seen a brush walk by anywhere?"

I looked at her. Has she gone crazy?

"No. Are you ok?"

"Yes yes just an experiment."

"Ok then."

She walked off muttering dangerous this and that an I was still in shock from what just happened.

"She has defiantly went crazy," I murmured.

"Seems so."

"Not just seems, is! She was talking about a walking brush!"

"True."

"Yea," I said and kicked off the blanket. I wasn't cold anymore.

"Well someone seems warm."

"Yes I am sweating. I think the heat is to high! I'll be right back," I said and ran upstairs. I ran to my room and shut the door. I put on a t-shirt and took off my necklace and put it on the dresser. I found my fight necklaces and put them on to. I put on shorts and ran downstairs and jumped on the couch.

I landed on the couch and was sitting perfectly. I laughed at Zevins face. It had scared him.

"Don't do that!"

"But it's fun," I complained.

"So? You could've fell off the couch!"

"Okay okay!"

"Good!"

"It scared you didn't it," I smiled.

"A little."

"Sure."

"Okay smarty pants."

"They're not pants they're shorts and they are not smart! They are just not as dumb as socks!"


He laughed"If you say so."

"I do!"

He kept laughing and I stuck my tongue out at him.

"So how smart are socks?"

"Not very because they always are inside out or upside down and there is no left and right!"

"Hmm ok then."

There was a knock on the door. My mom came running in to open it. She looked through the peephole.

"Oh no," she muttered and opened the door.

"Hello miss," an officer said.

"You can't take him," she screamed and slammed the door.

"Mom!"

"They are here to take Zevin Maddie!"

"Oh no," I screamed"No no no no no."

"Maddie it's okay," he whispered trying to calm me down.

I shook my head"Not okay," I murmured.

"Maddie just calm down," he said hugging me.

I just shook my head. They couldn't take him! If they did what would I have left? Nothing. That's what I would have.

I was frozen and couldn't say anything as my mom was holding the door keeping the officers from entering.

They knocked open the door. I was screaming as they took my mom.

"LET HER GO YOU ********! YOU CAN'T HAVE THEM," I screamed hugging Zevin tighter crying.

"Maddie it's ok I'll break out soon. I won't let them keep us away okay?"

"Okay."

"Now Mr. Tays are we going to have to force you like we did this lady," the officer asked coming up to us.

"No sir I don't think you will," he replied.

"YOU CAN'T DO THIS! I WONT LET YOU *****," I screamed.

"Calm down Mrs!"

"I CAN'T CALM DOWN! YOU ARE FREAKIN TAKING HIM FROM ME AND YOU ARE TELLING ME TO CALM DOWN?"

"Mrs...."

"DONT MRS ME! OH NO YOU BETTER SHUT UP BEFORE I KNOCK YOU OUT!"

"Okay well I'm sorry Mrs."

I groaned"YOU DON'T ******* GET THIS DO YOU?"

"Calm down!"

"Maddie stop its okay," Zevin said.

I was quiet then. They started walking out the door.

"Wait! Where do I go? My mother has just been arrested!"

"Not my problem," the officer said and walked out.

"Maddie come here," Zevin said stopping at the door.

I came over there"Yea," I muttered.

"Just remember me okay? Don't forget. It will be a while before I get to see you and no matter how much you want to forget don't."

"Never," I whispered.

"I love you," he whispered and kissed me.

"I love you to," I whispered back as he walked out.

What was I going to do? I didn't have Zevin, I didn't have my mom, I never had a dad. What could I do?

I packed up all my stuff. I was going back and I was going to find Zevin.

I grabbed the one suitcase I had packed and ran out the door. I ran until I got to the leaves. I parted them. There was only a wall. I screamed. How?

I opened them again and again. Finally it appeared and I ran through only to be captured by some guards.

"Let me go!"

They didn't let me go and brought me to a tall tower. If they thought I was going to let then take me up there they were sadly mistaken!

I screamed and kicked an yelled but they tossed me up there and I couldn't get down. If I did I would get killed! They couldn't do this! I sat down and cried. What else was there to do? My whole life and everything that was important in it was took right out of my hands.

 

It has been two months since that day. I still wasn't allowed out of the castle. Not until seven o'clock today. I wasn't allowed to go see Zevin on his birthday or on Christmas. They claimed not to know where he was.

I would be out and free in less then an hour though. I could find him! I wouldn't be lonely anymore! After all we were still dating! They couldn't tear us apart for long!

Soon I was allowed out and I grabbed my things and left as soon as possible. I walked out on the streets wondering where I could go.

I sat on a bench and closed my eyes.

"Maddie?"

I looked up. It was the girl who had helped me last time I was looking for Zevin.

I smiled"Something good for once," I whispered.

"You look... Sad. What happened?"

I sighed and explained everything the best I could.

"Oh no! I'm so sorry! Come on I need to get you somewhere warm!"

I nodded my head and followed her to a house.

She walked in"Maddie is back," she screamed and shut the door behind me.

The group from last time ran down the stairs screaming my name. I laughed as that all stopped at the bottom stair. One of them had almost tripped and they all almost fell.

They saw my face and they could tell jut as the girl did that something was wrong. She gathered them up in a group and started whispering something. I waited until they were done and she came back over to me.

"Okay we think Zevin might be at a celebration later on tonight. If you want to go we can and look for him."

"Really? Thank you so much! You have no idea how important this is to me!"

"Your welcome. Now come on we will give you a room!"

I nodded and followed her upstairs. They gave me an empty room and we left right away for the event would be starting soon.

We arrived and bought tickets and entered. I realized right away that it was the singing competition that was held for finding the final two.

I waited for it to start and they called name after name.

Then they said"We are sorry but Madelin Davis is not here."

"YES I AM," I screamed at the top of my lungs running up to the stage.

The whole crowd gasped as I ran up.

"I would like to sing," I told the stage workers. They nodded and handed me a head piece.

I smiled at the crowd. I sang my favorite song 'Glad You Came' by The Wanted.

When I finished I was smiling at them all and glanced around quickly looking for Zevin. I didn't see him anywhere.

As I walked off the stage someone grabbed me and covered my mouth. They pulled me away as I was screaming. I bit the persons hand.

"Maddie! It's just me!"

I looked back"Oh my gosh! I thought I wouldn't see you again," I cried.

"Shhh don't cry! Come on I'll bring you to my fathers side of the family. They have been dying to meet you," Zevin smiled. I was glad to see him.

He took me to a booth where his father was and several other people who I figured to be family.

"Maddie you know my father and this is my aunt and uncle. My grandmother and our family friend Susan," he said as we arrived. I gave a small wave and a smile.

"A little shy are ya," his grandmother asked. I blushed and nodded my head.

I sat down by Zevin and he asked where I had been. I told him everything and he told me that he had been sent to his dads and that was the end for him.

"Well Maddie you did great singing tonight," his father said.

"Thank you sir."

"Your very welcome! Such a sweet girl."

I blushed.

"Well Maddie I think they are announcing the winners soon," his aunt said.

"I didn't even know I was really supposed to sing tonight. Some friends brought me here to look for Zevin," I said.

"Well I do hope you win!"

"Thank you."

"Maddie since when did you get friends," Zevin asked.

"Oh I forgot to tell you. It was ummm well bad memories here but the day I let you go from Rachel and...."

"Oh ok," he said looking away.

"Yea," I murmured.

"Well I bet you two are so happy to see each other! No need for bad memories," his dad said trying to get the mood back up.

"Yea I was happy to see it was Zevin there and not a kidnapper! I had a fist ready and was about to throw some punches."

He laughed"Glad you didn't."

"Me to," I laughed.

"I thought she was about to kill me when she bit my hand! I think I am infected now," Zevin laughed.

His dad laughed as he showed him the bite mark. My face was blood red from embarrassment!

"Well you got a fighter right there son! Better be nice to her," his grandpa said.

We all laughed.

"I will," Zevin said putting his arm around me. I blushed more. With it being his dad it embarrassed me.

"You two are just to cute," his aunt cried.

I blushed again. Why did I keep blushing? It was making me mad. I never blushed! Why now?

"Kristi stop it! You are embarrassing them,"his grandma snapped.

"Well they are! Oh! I need a picture!"

"No you don't!"

"Well I am going to get one! Will y'all please let me get a picture," she begged.

"Sure," Zevin said so she started snapping pictures before I could even smile.

"Oh they are calling out winners! Let's see if you get it Maddie," his aunt cried.

They called two names, Alexis and Madelin.

We were all screaming of excitement and Zevin walked me down to the stage. I walked out and accepted the certificate for making it this far.

I took Zevin with me to my friends.

"Thank you guys so much! I will be back later I think I'm going to hang out with Zevin a little while before I come back."

"That's fine we will see you later," they said and left.

We walked back up to his family. They congratulated me and hugged me.

"I forgot to ask, who is the new leader?"

"Some family from far away came and made their young son leader. I don't know them really," Zevin said.

"Oh ok."

"Well Maddie you did good tonight," his dad said.

"Thank you. I will have to find something good to sing in the finals."

"I'm sure you will do great."

"Thank you."

"Maddie, would you like to come eat with us tonight? We are going to one of these resteraunts down here," he asked.

"Oh I don't know my friends will be waiting."

"Come on Maddie! I can tell they didn't feed you well in that tower! You need to eat," Zevin said.

"Ok I guess I will."

"Good we better get out of here before traffic gets bad," his uncle said.

We all left and there was a regular car with four seats that all seven of us were supposed to fit in. Then it grew two extra rows. They laughed at my shocked expression and we got in.

They put his dad in the front, his grandmother and grandfather in the second row, his aunt and uncle in the third, and us in the very back.

Once we all got situated we took off with his aunt and uncle holding hands and Zevins arm around me.

"You two in the very back stay a good ways away from each other," his dad yelled across the car.

"Rather not," Zevin yelled back laughing.

"Well I guess I'll have to come back there huh?"

"No not necessary please stay there!"

"Maddie you be careful back there now! Zevin is very dangerous!"

I laughed"I will!"

"See I win!"

"Oh no you don't," Zevin yelled back scooting closer.

"Zevin stay away from her!"

"Or what," he yelled scooting closer again. I was laughing at them so hard my face was red.

"You'll see!"

"Thats not much of a threat," he yelled scooting closer do that we were basically hugging.

"Maddie he is dangerous don't let him near you! Kick him off!"

I laughed and Zevin yelled"Am not! She wouldn't kick me off though would you Maddie?"

"No," I laughed.

"Maddie your supposed to be on my side!"

"Sorry," I laughed.

"Dad would you get mad if..."

"Yes," his dad interrupted.

"Really? Then maybe I should!"

"Don't do it! No! Maddie watch out!"

"Yes," he screamed and turned towards me"Did you understand a bit of that," he whispered.

"Don't you dare Zevin," his dad screamed.

"No," I laughed.

"Good. Hey dad! Watch this!"

"Don't let him Maddie! No!"

"To late," he screamed and smiled at me"You want to make him real mad," he whispered.

"I thought he already was," I whispered back,

"Oh no."

"Then yes. What makes him mad?"

"This," he said and kissed me. The whole time his dad was yelling"Y'all stop that now! Stop Zevin! Bite him again Maddie!"

When we pulled apart his dad started yelling again. We laughed at him until we got to the place.

We all got out and his dad walked close by us the whole time trying to separate us. We knew he was playing with us but we had fun with him.

We walked in and got a table. His dad had tried to dot between us until his grandma yelled"Knock it off!"

He sat on the other side of Zevin. I got a sweet tea to drink and the rest had got either water or coke.

When it came time to order I told the waitress I wanted a salad.

"Oh no you don't! You are going to pig out tonight! You were trapped so long your mind went dead! You are skinny to the bones cause of them! Eat something," Zevin said.

"I'm not hungry," I argued.

"Oh yes you are," he said and ordered my food.

"I'm not going to eat it!"

"Watch! When it gets here you are going to swallow it in two bites!"

"No!"

"Oh yea I know you will."

"Whatever!"

Sure enough when the food got there I swallowed it down fast. Guess I was hungry.

"Told you," Zevin bragged as his dad payed and we walked out.

"Yea yea."

I got in and Zevin went over to his dad and was asking him something. He nodded his head and Zevin came back and we all got in the car.

I layed my head in his shoulder yawning.

"I need to get back."

"Why?"

"Because I'm staying with them. My mom is still gone so I have to stay with someone."

"Well come stay with us."

"No I couldn't. You have already done so much."

"No you are staying and we will stop by and get your stuff."

"Okay I don't feel like arguing right now," I muttered.

"Hey! You two separate right now," his dad yelled.

I laughed and yawned again.

"You tired?"

"Yea."

"Well go to sleep we can get your stuff."

"Okay," I said and closed my eyes.

I was knocked out and was dreaming of singing.

I woke up in a bed. I rubbed my eyes and looked around at the place. I had no idea where I was and had to think for a minute before I remembered.

I opened the door and walked out. I wasn't sure where I was going. I stood still for a moment.

Then someone beside me said"Hey sleepyhead!"

I jumped in shock. I sighed with relief. It was only Zevin.

"How did I get up here?"

"Well you were knocked out and I didn't want to wake you so I carried you up here."

"Oh ok."

"You hungry?"

"Not really."

"Yes you are," he said dragging me down the stairs.

"Look who's finally up," his dad yelled.

"Hardly."

He and Zevin laughed. His dad said he was going to a store to get breakfast.

"Don't you two get closer then that," he yelled as he shut the door.

"I am not a morning person," I said yawning.

"I am!" he laughed.

"I can tell!"

He laughed"Wonder how long he will be gone."

"Don't know."

"Good cause I don't want him yelling at me for getting close to you," he said getting closer.

I laughed"He does yell about that a lot doesn't he?"

"Oh yea!"

I laughed and got closer"He would be yelling his head off right now."

"No he wouldn't be. Not until we did this," he said and kissed me. These were the moments I always remembered about in the tower. I had missed them and him and my mother so much! I could hardly stand not going crazy in there!

"Ha! I knew it! Get off! I knew you two would be kissing while I was gone," someone screamed as the door slammed open.

We jumped back. I was blushing as his dad came in with a bag in his hand.

"I bet Zevin was the one who started it! I told you stay away from each other!"

"Told you so," Zevin whispered and smiled.

I laughed.

"Okay now y'all know not to kiss got it?"

"No," Zevin said.

"What do you mean no?"

"I mean no."

"So you are just going to disobey me?"

"Yea."

"Ha! You do and see what happens!"

"Ok watch! I'll disobey you again," he said and kissed me again.

"You! You! Ugh! I shouldn't even be fixing y'all breakfast!"

I laughed at them. They joked like it was real. Good thing I can tell when Zevin is joking or else I would be screaming for them to stop.

He silently fixed us breakfast and we ate.

When I finished I said"Where is my room at?"

"Upstairs first door on the right why?"

"Ok thanks. Because I am going back to bed!"

"What no! You can't go back to bed!"

"To bad! See ya," I said running upstairs and walking in my room. I crawled on the bed and curled up and closed my eyes.

"Oh no you don't!"

"Told you I'm not a morning person," I muttered.

"I can see that," he said sitting by me.

"Yea," I murmured.

"What is really wrong?"

"I'm tired!"

"No your not."

I sat up"Am to!"

"How are you yelling then?"

"I have energy!"

"Then how are you tired?"

"I just am!"

"Okay okay calm down."

I sighed and layed back down holding my head.

"You feeling okay?"

"Yea just thinking of my mom," I murmured.

"I knew something was wrong."

"No I am tired."

"Sure you are."

I sat up again"I told you I am!"

"But I don't believe you!"

"You should!"

"Why?"

"Because I'm tired!"

"Are not if you are arguing with me!"

"Then I won't argue," I said and layed back down. I turned away and closed my eyes.

"Hey don't be like that."

"You had the bright idea."

"Fine you are tired. Now will you look at me?"

"No."

"Why?"

"Cause I am sleepy."

"So? That doesn't mean you can't look at me! We haven't seen each other in months and you ignore me!"

"No I'm not!"

"That's how it seems," he said wrapping his arms around me.

"Well what it seems like might not always be what it is."

"Then what is it?"

"I'm just worried about my mother."

"There is the reason."

I sighed and turned around"Do you think she's okay?"

"Yes! We can go visit her tomorrow if you would like."

"Yes!"

"Okay we will go tomorrow."

"Thank you."

"You are very welcome," he smiled.

"STAY OFF SON," his dad yelled in the doorway.

"Very funny. How long have you been there," Zevin asked.

"Since you put your arms around her!"

"So protective," he murmured.

"No I just don't want y'all hurt."

"Yes because we will get hurt after everything that's happened."

"Yes!"

"Whatever."

"Zevin don't make him mad," I whispered.

"Why not?"

"Because I don't like yelling and arguing!"

"Okay I won't," he whispered. I nodded my head.

"I missed you," he said pulling me closer.

"I missed you to. You and my mother is all I could think about."

"All I could think of was you and what happened."

"I missed having someone to be there for me."

"You always had someone just didn't realize it."

I nodded my head. I think his father was still there. If he was listening to this then I would be embarrassed when I saw him.

I smiled. To bad I was going to have to make his dad mad. I leaned in and kissed him. His dad started yelling and was really mad but I didn't care.

I heard his dad yelling something and then Zevin started yelling at him.

"You did not just mention that!"

"Oh but I did now that you have your girlfriend here I think she needs to know about the ones before her!"

"Well I don't!"

"Well I do! Why do you think I have been trying to stop this!"

"Well this time it is different!"

"No it's not!"

"SHUT UP! I WANT TO KNOW WHAT Y'ALL ARE TALKING ABOUT RIGHT NOW," I screamed.

"Maddie it's nothing you can take your nap now," Zevin said gently like he wasn't just yelling.

"No she needs to know! Maddie Zevin has done this before. Three times actually. He is just playing with you! I would leave while you can."

I gaped. I ran downstairs and out the door. I ran across streets until I found my friends house. I knocked on the door.

It opened"Maddie I thought," and then she noticed I was crying.

She helped me in and let me cry. I had explained to her and she understood. Everyone gathered around me and was hugging me trying to help but it didn't. I couldn't be helped now.

I heard someone knock on the door and the girl say"I don't think she wants to see you right now."

They all guarded around me at this as I heard footsteps. I curled up in an even tighter ball.

"Maddie!"

"G-g-go a-a-away," I cried.

"No I need to talk to you."

"I don't want to!"

"Well I do."

"I don't care what you want!"

"Maddie don't be that way! My dad always beings up the past! I was sixteen and didn't know better!"

"Yea because letting girls fall in love with you and then dumping them is not knowing better!"

"Maddie that's not what was going to happen."

"Oh really?!"

"Maddie I love you and you know it! We were happy if it wasn't for my dad! We could get away for a while! Then you will see! Please don't leave me."

"Like you will leave me sooner or later when you are done with me?"

"Maddie I won't do that and you know it!"

"No I don't!"

"Well let me prove it!"

"You can't!"

"I can though! You just have to let me! Come back! Please Maddie! You can't believe my dad!"

"You have a week to prove it! Then I am done! Done with you trying to win me over and me being confused!"

"Deal!"

"Good."

"Now let me get you out of here," he said pushing through the people"Oh my gosh Maddie I am so sorry," he whispered.

"Maddie come see me if you need help okay," the girl said. I nodded my head as Zevin picked me up and we flew off.

We got back to his dads and as we walked in his dad came up telling me he was sorry and it was a lie.

I nodded my head and drank the water they gave me. I fell asleep in Zevins arms and when I awoke I was still in his arms.

"Why didn't you put me down?"

"Why would I want to?"

"Because I weigh a lot."

"No you don't! Your as light as a feather!"

"Whatever."

"You don't ever believe in anything do you?"

"Not really."

"Interesting."

"I guess," I said and got up. I walked upstairs.

"Where are you going?"

"To sleep."

"Why?"

"We had this same argument last time! See how that turned out," I said shutting the door behind me and laying on the bed.

I closed my eyes and was asleep fast. I had dreamed of finding my mother. She had been locked away and hurt but I had helped her.

I had woke up and it was dark. It looked to be around midnight and I was in desperate need of a drink.

I walked down stairs into the kitchen and fixed a glass of water. I gulped it down in a flash and started walking upstairs.

I looked around me for the first time. There was two other rooms up here. One had the lights on and the other was completely dark. I guessed one of them was still up.

I tried to silently walk to my room but tripped over the loose carpeting. I fell to the ground. My ankle was throbbing. I held on to it wincing. I tried to be quiet and this is what happens!

"Maddie I heard a noise what happened," Zevin said coming out of the room that was lit.

"I fell over this carpet," I muttered trying to stand up.

"Don't move! You could hurt it worse!"

"Then how will I get up?"

"I can carry you."

"No don't I'm heavy."

"Oh please," he said putting me in his arms.

"I am heavy! Don't hurt yourself!"

He laughed"Are not and I won't!"

"Grr! Fine!"

"Thank you," he said carrying me into the light room.

"Where are you taking me?"

"My room. I have some things I can use to fix your ankle in here."

"Okay," I said as he gently layed me down on the bed.

"Okay stick your feet and legs straight out so I can see what is hurt."

I stuck my legs out and saw the ankle myself. It was swollen.

"Okay I think you just twisted it and didn't break anything but I will put some bandage around it."

I nodded my head as he stabbed the bandage around my ankle.

"You were lucky you didn't break it! It would have easily been broke if you had fell the other way!"

I nodded my head. The pain had went down a little but it still hurt.

"You are really quiet. What's wrong?"

"I was thinking."

"About what?"

"My mom and the pain she is probably having right now."

"Maddie don't worry about that," he said sitting by me.

"But I am. What if they hurt her?"

"I don't think they did. We will see tomorrow though wont we," he said putting an arm around me.

"I guess so," I said breathing slowly trying to get the thought of her being beaten out of my head.

"It will be okay. We will find a way to get her out okay," he said pulling me closer.

"Okay but what if..."

"If nothing! She won't be hurt! She is fine Maddie."

"I hope so."

"I know so," he whispered right next to my ear.

"You can't know."

"I can if I believe I know and you should to. It will take a lot of stress off you."

"I'll try."

"Good you can be happier now," he whispered pulling me closer.

"I might if one other thing didn't bother me."

"What is that?"

"You."

"Maddie it isn't true and you know it."

"I want to believe I know it but sometimes I can't."

"Well believe with all your might because it isn't true."

"Okay."

"See everything is fine now."

"For now."

He laughed"For now," he whispered and pulled me closer so that we couldn't get any closer.

I yawned.

"Sleepy head," he whispered.

"No I just woke up."

"Are you sure you are not tired?"

"Yea pretty sure why?"

"Because I was afraid you would fall asleep while kissing me like last time."

"Who says I will kiss you at all?"

"You do. I can read your mind Maddie."

"Yes but I can never seem to read yours."

"Well you can now if you want."

"I don't."

"I see what your doing! Your trying to get off topic! It's not going to work missy!"

"It was."

"Well it won't now," he whispered wrapping his other arm around me.

"Why not," I whispered back.

"Because I won't let it."

I laughed and through my hands up in the air"I surrender!"

He laughed"Good," and grabbed my arms and put them around him.

"You should be scared that your dad will come in any minute now."

"But I'm not."

"Why?"

"Because he is a heavy sleeper."

"So at the loudest noise possible he wouldn't wake up?"

"No. Wait a minute! I see what you are doing!"

I smiled"Was it that obvious?"

"A little," he said smiling.

I laughed"I need to go back to bed," I said trying to get up.

"Oh no you don't," he said pulling me back down.

"Let me gooo!"

"No way!"

"Please," I begged.

"I don't think so."

"Ugh!"

"Oh calm down its not like I'm holding you hostage."

"Yea yea what do you want?"

"I want you to stay here with me."

"Why should I?"

"Because I know you want to."

"Yea okay."

"So you'll stay?"

"Just a little longer."

"Fine I'll accept that," he said pulling me close to him again.

"Good."

He smiled at me. I stuck my tongue out at him and laughed.

"Thats not nice," he said grabbing my arms and wrapping them around him and he wrapped his arms around me.

"And?"

"And you better say sorry!"

"I'm sorry."

"Thank you."

"Uh huh."

"For someone who has slept all day you sure are cranky!"

"Oh yea that's why I need more sleep!"

"Sureee."

"Don't believe me? I will just leave and show you then," I said and sat up.

"Okay okay I believe you," he said and pulled me back down.

"Whatever."

"But Maddie I do believe you!"

"Just like I am supposed to believe you!"

"Well kinda I don't know," he said pulling me close again"I don't really care either just as long as you are happy."

"Alright Mr. Romantic I am tired and I need to sleep."

He laughed"No you don't because you are staying right here!"

"Not unless a leave!"

"But you won't!"

"Why not?"

"Because," he said pulling me closer so our faces were an inch apart"You want to stay."

I smiled"I don't though."

"Yes you do."

"There is no reason to."

"Yes there is."

"What?"

"This," he said and kissed me.

I stopped"Zevin I still don't know if you are doing this because you love me or.... Your using me."

"I thought we went over this."

"We did I just don't know," I said sitting up.

"How can I prove it?"

"I don't know," I said and walked out. I stopped at my door. I fell on my knees with my head in my hands and began to cry.

I didn't know why. I could have it much worse but I felt awful and sometimes... It's good to cry.

I didn't want any help. I didn't want to leave this spot.

"Maddie! Oh no come here don't do this again," Zevin said from his room.

I shook my head and continued to cry.

"Come on its ok," he said sitting by me and taking my hand.

I shook my head again. It was not okay.

"Shh come come here," he said pulling me into his lap. I layed my head on his shoulder and continued to cry.

"It will be okay," he tried to reassure me.

"There is so much going on. We can't even be together anyway. In less then a year and a half we are to be married to some unknown person!"

"No. We have plenty of time to change that! You don't need to worry about any of that yet. It will all work out."

"Promise?"

"Promise," he whispered.

I put my arms around him and whispered"I know you love me."

"Good I was getting scared," he whispered back. I smiled. Maybe it wasn't going to be so bad after all.

We sat on the stairs until morning holding each other. We had decided it was time to go find my mother and we would have a picnic before we ate.

I went to get dressed in a shirt and shirts and tennis shoes. I walked downstairs and got a glass of water waiting on Zevin.

He came downstairs"You take longer then a girl," I exclaimed.

He laughed a nervous laugh"Well I did today!"

What was he so nervous about? We were just going to see my mom!

"You ready," he asked grabbing a picnic basket from under the cabinets.

"Yea I hopes she's okay," I said opening the door.

"Me to," he said following me out. We got to a park and sat under a tree.

He opened the picnic basket and layed out a blanket and put all the food on it. We sat and began to eat. I was full and fell back holding my stomach.

"You know I used to look at clouds and see what shapes they were. They used to make me cry because I knew that they weren't alone and had each other but.... I had no one. I do know though I found friends and you and I cant really have anyone else to trust."

"Well you shouldn't have cried over that! You should have known that soon someone would come to rescue you."

"You," I whispered remembering that day.

"If that's how you see it. I saw it as the day that I found the one who I knew would love me more then anyone else. I could tell just by the look in your eyes."

"I could tell you loved me from your eyes too," I smiled.

"Well I think I have got a way to get away from what is going to happen. This place just loves young marriages don't you think?"

"What do you mean," I asked sitting up.

He pulled out a box and opened it"Does this explain?"

"Oh my gosh! I don't know what to say," I whispered.

"Say what you feel."

"Yes! Forever and ever yes," I cried hugging him.

He smiled putting the ring on my hand.

"Come on we better go see your mother," he said standing up. I nodded my head as he helped me up and we picked up the food and blanket.

I followed him as we flew not taking my eyes off the ring.

"You like it?"

I laughed"Yes I am just making sure it doesn't fall off."

"Suree."

"Alright Mr.!"

He laughed"Here," and we landed.

It was a big building that looked just like a jail. We walked in and to the front desk. We asked for my mom and was led to a cell.

"Mom," I whispered seeing someone hunched over in the cell. The person turned and stood up.

"Maddie!"

They opened the cell and we ran to each other. We hugged each other tightly never wanting to let each other go.

"I missed you," she said crying.

"I missed you to," I cried.

We were allowed to take her back and as we walked out she had her eye on me.

"Maddie what's that?"

"Whats what?"

"On your hand... Is it a..."

I smiled and nodded my head showing her the ring.

"Oh congratulations," she cried pulling us all in a hug.

We walked back to Zevins fathers house and when we walked in the police and his whole family was there.

"Dad... Why are all these people here," Zevin asked eyeing everybody.

"I thought you went missing!"

"No we went to get Maddies mom..."

"I see," he smiled"I'm sorry you had to come like this."

She blushed"Oh it's fine really!"

"Okay well I think this is okay officers," he said opening the door.

They left and he stared Zevin down.

"I better go pack my stuff," I said and ran upstairs.

I grabbed all my stuff and put it in my suitcase. I walked downstairs to see everyone staring at me.

I stopped my hand on the suitcase"Yes?"

"Oh! So young," his grandma cried.

"What?"

"What! Oh! She doesn't know!"

"Know what?"

"Maddie.... Food poison in your world is different here," my mom said.

"What do you mean?"

"Maddie I mean... Oh it's just so hard to tell you! Kissing is the most dangerous thing in this world!"

"What do you mean?"

"Maddie kissing is harmless in our world but.."

"Tell me! I can't fill in the blanks!"

"Since you are born here... The rules still apply to you. That's why people get so shocked when people kiss! Oh! Food poison in our world leads to..."

"To what?!"

"Maddie, your going to be a mother."

I couldn't remember much after that. I passed out and didn't wake for over ten hours.

"What happened," I murmured.

"You passed out," someone said beside me holding my hand. I looked over to see Zevin.

"Did you know that was what was going to happen?"

He shook his head"Like you I thought it was harmless."

I nodded my head. The doctor had come in and told me she had already checked on the baby.

"Is it okay?"

"Yes.... They both are."

I gaped"Twins," I whispered.

She nodded her head and told me I was allowed to leave.

We left and was took back to his fathers house only to be met by some council members.

"We are here to inform you that upon your marriage we are giving you a free home! If you would like to see it then you can."

"I do," I said.

"Well follow us," he said and walked outside into a carriage. We flew after him and arrived at a two story house. The outside looked amazing! It had amazing detail in the garden!

We walked in and looked around. It had five bedrooms in all. Two upstairs three down. It had an amazing kitchen and a big living room. The dining room was amazing! There were two bathrooms and the master bedroom was upstairs.

We told them the house would be fine and they left. I just didn't know if I was ready for my own house. I walked around it slowly. It had furniture already and it looked amazing and we didn't have to pay for it but... it was different owning a house.

We had went back to his dads house where his dad and my mom were caught about to kiss.

"Knock it off! I don't need a new sibling," I yelled as we opened the door. We laughed as they jumped away like two teenagers.

"Well... Is the baby okay," my mom muttered.

I laughed"Yes they are okay."

"They? Oh!"

We continued to laugh at them as they each took quick glances.

"So have y'all made a date for the wedding yet? Maddie I could help you with that you know!"

"Wedding," his dad asked looking at us.

I blushed. I would have thought my mom had told him. Of course not! She was just trying to kiss him!

"Yes father," Zevin said not at all embarrassed.

"Well... Congratulations on everything."

We nodded our heads as someone knocked on the door.

His dad opened it and it was my style team.

"What?"

"We are here to help you with wedding! It is tommorow!"

"What? Why weren't we told!"

"I don't know miss but we have to hurry and find you a dress," they said rushing me out and into a store close by.

They picked out several dresses and made me try them on. When we were all happy with one of the dresses we rushed back with it.

I flopped down on the couch"I will be glad when this is over."

Zevin laughed as I was fighting the stylists over what my hair should look like.

This was going to be a long two days.

When they finally left I fell asleep on the couch. I woke up with Zevin leaning over me. My eyes widened and he fell back laughing.

I punched him"Don't do that!"

"But it's fun!"

"Yes just wait one day I'll wake you up with a bucket of ice in your face," I said putting on my sweet face.

"But you wouldn't do that!"

"Oh yes I would."

"Ok fine! I won't do it again!"

"Okay. Now where is everyone?"

"Well the adults are upstairs sleeping."

I looked at him"Alone?"

"Yea why? Oh.."

"Yea oh," I said running upstairs. I looked in my old bedroom they were sitting there talking. They both leaned in.

"Hey sleepy heads," I screamed. They jumped back and I fell on the floor laughing.

"Maddie," my mom whispered.

"Yes," I smiled.

"I... What do you want to eat," she smiled.

"I don't know! It is different here! What am I supposed to eat?"

"Anything! Here it doesn't matter!"

"Okay then I don't care."

"Okay," she said running downstairs. I followed her down still laughing.

"What happened," Zevin whispered when I sat back on the couch.

I told him what happened and we burst out laughing.

"Okay you two! I don't know what is so funny but it's time to eat," my mom yelled.

We laughed on the way to the table and sat down. After we finished eating the stylists came again.

"Help me," I murmured.

They put me in my dress and did my make up and hair. When I was done I felt like I was a Barbie doll that has been tortured.

I walked down and they said they had already took Zevin down. They stuffed me in a carriage and brought me to the waterfall. I smiled at all the gorgeous decorations around.

The hole town was there and I was getting a little nervous. I couldn't really think or see anything after that. I could remember walking down the aisle and then the villager talking about something that I couldn't here. I could remember saying I do and then him say I do. Then I remember the villager saying you may kiss the bride and after the kiss I remember jumping off the waterfall and stopping in midair.

I remember laughing and running to the carriage. As they took us to our new house I remember waving to my friends. They were crying and waving back.

Later I felt something in my stomach.

"You two can't already be fighting," I murmured to them.

5 MONTHS LATER

I had passed out. When I woke up I could hear people yelling that the babies needed cleaned. I sat up and saw two little girls.

I cried at the sight of them. I can remember taking them home and showing then they're new room. We couldn't tell what element they were yet.

They hardly ever cried and didn't need to be entertained. A year later they were walking and had a new little brother.

Rachel ended up marrying the guy who was to marry me. They had a boy and a girl both of then as evil as they're parents.

All of my friends got married to one another and had children who thought everything was supposed to be broken. They even broke each others hand. You could guess what element they were.

I visited my mother daily. She was in love with Zevins father and apperantly here it was okay. They were married soon and I had a new brother.

Everything turned out okay and we were all happy for once. Until the war.
