Some of my favorite Lunar New Year memories and traditions growing up include munching on home-cooked bbq with my family, watching vibrant fireworks light up the sky from our windows or balcony, and, of course, receiving red envelopes from my relatives. โค๏ธ
I think the most common and my favourite tradition for LNY is definitely the reunion dinner (ๅขๅนด้ฅญ๏ผwhere families father together on the even to have a meal. For my family, since both my paternal and maternal grandparents are still alive we have 2 reunion dinners. It's a good way to see my cousins, catch up with my grandparents, aunts and uncles over a home cooked meal of a lavish restaurant meal. Of course, meals are also different due to the upbringing of my maternal and paternal side but thats just what makes it unique! Some of my favourite dishes/meals for the LNY period would be (not in order): 1. Steamboat/hotpot 2. Ngoh Hiang (Wu Xiang -> type of meat roll?) 3. Fried bee hoon 4. All the snackies (pineapple tart, crispy fishball, spicy mini springroll) I love LNY ๐ฅน๐ซถ๐ผ
