He looked up at the stars his face was thoughtful, and he smelled like cinnamon and something else that she couldn't quite put her finger on. He looked back over at her, knowing she had been watching him, he moved a stray hair from her face and as his hand moved away his face had come closer. Their faces were just a nose away from one another. He had gently pressed his lips against hers. His one hand was on her side, the other caressed her cheek. She kissed him back just as gently as he did, but as his kiss became stronger, so did hers. The kiss lasted for what seemed forever, but she couldn’t help but think it wasn't enough. He smiled at her as if he knew what she was thinking. Reply ▼ Delete More ▼
The morning dragged on. It was Thursday and as the buzzing of hushed voices carried through the room, Adenae quietly sat in her seat. James walked in , and spotting an empty seat beside her he sat down and immediately turned to her. “Hey. So I saw you with Charlie yesterday. You two a thing now? I could have sworn he and Jessie would be hooking up.” She didn't really know what to say at first. It wasn't everyday she got greeted in such a fashion. “Charlie and I are just friends. We've known each other for a while.” He had looked blank at first but now a slight smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. “I'll pick you up at seven. Tomorrow. Movies maybe.” “What are you talking about? A date?” She was caught off guard. He had said it so casually and in such a way as if indicating that she had already said yes or perhaps he had said yes for her. “Yes. Adenae, I would like to take you out on a date. Its not a question. Just come out with me, we can go as friends if you would like.” His smile was warm, softening the intimidating appearance of his scar. Before she could reply however, a bell had rung and the teacher had immediately started off on a lecture. She looked over at him but he had shifted the entire position of his body. He now faced forward, his face had gone back to its usual blank appearance. Through the thick crowded halls Charlie could make out Adenae's small frame. He had become familiar to looking at her back. He had a constant habit of searching for her in the halls but as soon as he found her, she would disappear. He attempted to make his way through the large mass of freshmen and sophomores, ignoring the flirtatious looks from the girls but the closer he got to Adenae, the farther away she walked. He gave up and at that moment Jessie was at his side. “Hey Charlie. Who you looking for?” “No one. I was just trying to get away from all these people.” Jessie reached for his hands and began to lead him out of the halls to the open courtyard. “How about we go to my place? Schools almost over anyways.” She looked at him in such a way that gave him chills. Jessie was pretty but she wasn't necessarily his type. If he even had a type. But something about her smile made him wonder if maybe she was missing something in her life and she only needed someone to be kind enough to her. She had that look. He had seen it on the face of one of his neighbor's foster kid. “Sure. I'll drive I guess.” They had arrived at a small beach house. It seemed lonely even among the other houses. He had just made his way in through the front door when he heard Jessie sigh. “You okay?” She smiled at him. It wasn't one of her usual smiles. It was a smile of relief. He had never seen her look as beautiful as she did at that moment. He wasn't sure what took over him, or why but he kissed her. The taste of her strawberry lip gloss made him hunger for more. She kissed him back, almost forcefully, but he liked it. They had found themselves in her bedroom. He pressed her against the door, their bodies so close together, he could feel her racing heart. Her hands traveled over his body just as his hands did to her. Adenae looked over herself in the mirror, not quite sure what to make of things. She didn't know if James would really be arriving but she dressed for a date. It was a simple outfit. Casual but cute. She wasn't planning on flirting with him but she didn't know how else to dress. She wore a cream colored skirt with white lace trim. The plain white t-shirt was what gave the outfit just the right touch of casual. The day had been too hectic for her to keep up. This date might be what gave her a bit of enjoyment. James was an interesting guy. They had been talking through class and he seemed to know what to say to make her laugh. She had found out about Jessie and Charlie too. They had skipped school but no one really knew what they did, but she could guess at what it might have been. She paused for a moment to think about this. She had really thought he wasn't interested in her. But perhaps she'd know on Monday whether the two were official or not. The bell rung and her heart had began to race at the sound of it. She didn't know what he would think of her after tonight but she could hear her mother's voice calling for her. The hallway seemed to go on forever and the stairs seemed endless. James was wearing a white button up with vertical light blue stripes. The shirt made his eyes seem brighter than normal. He had stripped himself of all black other than the darkness of his hair of course. His smile reassured her, calming her, and as she reached the door she could feel his warm hands lightly grab a hold of hers as she said goodbye to her mother. The night was beautiful and the date had gone amazing so far. They watched a comedy, one that she chose, and he had held her hand the entire time. He still held her hand now as they made their way down the busy boardwalk. The fresh ocean air was so peaceful and the sound of laughter buzzed in her ears as the lights from an endless number of stands and shops danced in her eyes. They strolled down the steps to the beach, sitting down in the sand. He had let go of her hand now. But he watched her. His smile was playful and his eyes stood out. She reached over and traced her finger down the side of his face. His scar wasn't ugly to her anymore. It was beautiful. “How did you get this?” He looked up at the stars his face was thoughtful, and he smelled like cinnamon and something else that she couldn't quite put her finger on. Kelly looked out her window at a passing car. The neighbors were still asleep. It was about five in the morning. She hadn't slept all night. The party was dizzying. The music loud and the drinks plentiful. She checked the clock again. Five thirty-two. Jodie had fallen asleep in the master bedroom with Josh. The two hadn't done anything. As far as she could tell Josh had fallen asleep taking care of Jodie while she got sick. Charlie and Jessie had left early of course. The rumors had been true. Jessie proved them all right by spreading the word the two had most definitely hooked up. Charlie wasn't so happy by this but he was still the same calm guy. His inability to actually become angry at a person made her wonder how he did it sometimes. Joe had left even before the party started. He had stopped by at around four. He and Chase had been arguing again. She could see, and almost feel the anger coming out of him. It wasn't fifteen minutes into his visit that he started to make advances towards her, placing a hand on her knee and moving uncomfortably close. She rejected every advance, shifting positions and moving towards something as an attempt to further the distance between them. She had some sort of excuse for every move she made just in case he asked or made a face knowing what she was trying to do. He had grown tired of her dodging him and seemed to throw himself at her, kissing her neck and placing his hands on her butt. She panicked at the thought of having sex with him and threw him off. Joe never did good with rejection. He turned red with anger and she had honestly started to fear for her life, but he backed away and stomped out the door, slamming it as hard as he could as he left. Kelly looked over at her bed. The sleeping figure under the covers had a slow steady way of breathing but twitched every once in a while. Nothing had happened between the two. It was a normality now for the two to share a bed when Kelly had parties while her parents were out of town. Drake had toppled into bed still sober. He always made sure Kelly would be fine before he let himself get some rest. She moved towards him and watched him sleep. She loved him. He was her best friend and she would do everything to make sure she would never lose him. He began to wake and as he did so she walked out of the room and set herself to begin cooking breakfast. She didn't exactly know how many people had stayed the night. They usually woke up for breakfast though. She would have to go to the grocery store before her parents came home the next day. Cleaning wouldn't be too much of a problem. A few people usually stayed to help clean and she could already tell Maila had tidied up a bit before she left. Eggs. Bacon. Sausage. Grapefruits. She set everything out grabbing this and that adding to the pile. Cleaning the counter took a bit of time but when she was done the stove was heated up and she was able to start cooking. The smell of bacon and eggs flowed through the air weaving into the senses and soon enough people started coming down for some food. This was almost a tradition now. Adenae wasn't much of a runner but today she needed something to do. The cool air felt great on her. The boardwalk wasn't very busy considering it was only eight on Sunday morning but it only made things better. She began to slow down as she saw a familiar figure running in her direction. As soon as she realized who it was, she made a quick U turn. She didn't know exactly why she felt such a sudden anger towards Charlie, well who was she kidding, she knew exactly why. He never bothered telling her he was interested in Jessie. He clearly told her he wasn't. So apparently now he was lying to her. She could feel herself turn red with rage. He had lied to her, something James would never do. She could feel him close behind her. He was saying her name but she didn't want to listen. Adenae began to speed up trying to distance herself. “Adenae! What are you doing? Are you mad at me? Just stop and tell me what I did?” It didn't take long for Charlie to catch up with her and when he did he quickly grabbed her by the arm throwing her off balance and almost knocking them both off their feet. “What's your problem?” She just couldn't stand him. He wouldn't go away and it pissed her off knowing that he was such a liar and a traitor. “Whats my problem?!? Whats YOUR problem?!?” “Adenae, if you would just talk to me, we could both get a few answers. Please, just tell me whats going on.” “No Charlie, you tell me! You clearly said that you had no interest in Jessie and then you go hook up with her who knows how many times! You completely lied to me and then you don't even tell me. Is she your girlfriend now or what?” Charlie had never been more confused as he did at that moment. Adenae was acting like she was jealous of him and Jessie. He might be able to understand that but it was still hard trying to figure out why she would be this angry. He looked at her. The sun was still low in the sky, the light hitting her at just the right angle. It didn't matter how upset she was, the angrier the cuter Her hair seemed darker, her eyes were completely black, or at least looked that way. She had an exotic princess sort of look. He knew about her and James. He couldn't help but get a bit jealous at the thought of James kissing her. The emotions just as soon disappeared as they had appeared. He remembered his time with Jessie and how she had looked at him. Jessie was beautiful, but as he looked at Adenae, he felt like there was nothing else in the world he would want to do other than stand here and talk to her, even if she was angry at him. “No, Jessie and I aren't officially together. We did hook up those couple of times and I think I do like her, she's beautiful,, but she'll never be you. Funny isn't it, that i'm with Jessie and your with James? We never bothered trying to see if you and I would ever work” “Charlie, your being ridiculous. I like James a lot. He's nice to me and he wouldn't lie to me.” “No Adenae, your being ridiculous. James will lie to you eventually. All guys lie to their girlfriends at one point. I don't want you to be mad at me anymore. Will you just forgive me already, like you usually do, please?” Adenae couldn't help but laugh. Charlie was using his charms against her. The same charm that he knew never worked on a girl like her. But he was right. She always forgave him and this time wouldn't be an exception.
