Just like driving (which can turn into the use of a deadly weapon), the public has to be licensed and has to prove the ability to perform the necessary duties and responsibilities inherent in the act. I'm all for gun rights, but I'm also all for responsibility. You don't just hand out glocks to the general population and say "good luck!". If a person is allowed to carry a weapon specifically designed to cause severe injury, they need to prove the capacity and ability to do so responsibly. There will always be the rare individual who slips through. But that person, should they desire it, can probably get themselves a gun anyway. We will never fully contain gun crime by regulating it, (see drugs...) but we may decrease it significantly by teaching a respect for life.
Well yeah obviosuly if everyone acted responsibly then i wouldnt mind students, faculty, and staff carrying firearms. Then again there would be no need to carrying them cuz everyone is responsible. But thats the thing not everybody is... It just takes someone to be depressed, under the influence of drugs, someone with low self esteem, or someone with mental issues to cause a tragedy.. Those that have killed before in other schools were not experienced killers there backgrounds were clean even one was a straight A student who was highly spoken of. So my point is why allow people to carry them at school? Just cuz there background is clean doesnt mean they will act responsibly.
I also understand if there motive is to kill then a law would not stand betweem them to complete a crime but i think people react without thinking most of the time and if they are able to carry a gun and for some reason become angry they can use it right there and then no ?
Take this game for example. Are you more likely to enter into a farm war with a person with no club or weak club.....or enter a farm war with a strong club? Theoretically, a person wishing to cause major harm will be less likely to enter a room full of guns with one. I understand both sides to this, but I personally am for personal responsibility. Guns were made for protection and self-sufficiency. Murder is man-made and a person inclined to do so will do it regardless of gun laws.
Thanks guys for your opinions very interesting and to the point, as i conclude theres many benefits and disadvantages to this topic and yall helped clarify that. Appreciate yalls time and enjoyed discussing a serious topic with yall.. Well ill keep yall notified as to what happens here in my school. And hopefully theres more topics similar to this that are contreversal so that we can share with the PIMD community and acknoledge other people's opinions. overall we spend most of our lives in PIMD why not make it a learning experience right ? Lol Enjoy yalls day ?
I thought shields, body armour, bullet proof glass and condoms were made for protection. I don't think guns are the same category ?
If someone breaks into my house, none of those will protect my family. Or if a bear runs at me...not gonna throw a condom at it or throw up a shield
@Gizmo....you're right. I could. However, I was raised around guns and am comfortable having one. I like being able to protect myself and my children without having to wait the thirty minutes it would take police to arrive at my house....and that is only if they left right away. I respect that you don't feel comfortable with people carrying guns, however where I live it is normal. Most of the gun-related crimes were with guns that were obtained illegally. Therefore, laws or not...people have guns in America, so it is almost a necessity to have one as well. Besides, bullet proof vests don't protect your head or face. Just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth. I think opinions on this vary greatly depending on where a person is from. A perfect world would be one without the need for such things. Unfortunately, the world is not perfect.
