Police officers r trained and make mistakes what's going to happen when humans who don't have 10% of their training have guns
Firearms aren't for universities, there's just too many things that could go wrong. The person may be certified to carry it, but what happens if it gets stolen or if someone's mental health becomes degraded? I honestly wouldn't feel safe knowing that anyone around me could have a firearm.
I hear too many stories about college students getting attcked on and off campus. If people begin to know that college students are packing maybe there would be less attacks. But of course anyone with a mental illness shouldn't be able to get one, nor should they be trying to steal someone else's. And I don't believe in guns "accidentally going off" if you have your safety on and your not showing it off there is no reason for it to go off.
Won't that give more opportunities for people to just start randomly shooting people. Which makes the university way less safer
I don't think a person with the username "k1ller" (with a 1 nonetheless) should be carrying a weapon. ? But that's none of my business.
There's power in numbers, don't go alone or have security escort you to avoid being attacked on/off campus. This applies especially if it is night time an is not limited to any gender. I agree that anyone with a mental illness shouldn't be able to get one, however, there are people in society that hide their mental illness, or develops its later on in life, unless its documented how will we truely know? For example, excessive depression could develop at any point in time, what would we do then? If the school is allowing guns, they might as well teach about how to protect against it as well, and as far fetched as this sounds, offer bullet proof windows and vests.
Yall have truly valid points, appreciate yall's opinion. As for my username coincidentally there was a club named the k1llers that i happened to be in i did not choose K1ller as my choice is just a club tag lol
Murderers do not honor life...why would they honor a "no guns allowed" sign? By posting signs, you effectively guarantee the only armed people on campus become those who disregard the law. Always remember, no police officer will ever arrive fast enough to save the first victims. When seconds count, they will get there in minutes.
I gotta say no 50 percent may say yes but the other percent would say no cause most crime wont go down. Some people would feel threatened and never go back outside
All it takes is one kid getting harassed, and having a bad day to ruin everything. Who needs a gun in school? I understand wanting to protect yourself but you don't know who's mentally stable, what someone else is going through, etc. to just let people walk around with guns on them. No support.
Emo, I'm curious- do you reference VA Tech as a pro or anti-firearm case? Firearms weren't allowed on the Virginia Tech campus, and yet it still happened.
I dont want to be involved with any issues but a gun really is the last thing I would use for protection. Think about it, it is easier to kill a person with a gun than a taser or pepper spray. New methods of defense should be used other than a gun.
Why not have guns at uni? If one person goes postal, there's going to be at least 50 other people on the premises also carrying, depending on the school, and the likelihood of a massive killing spree, if anything, will massively drop. I know I would certainly think twice before whipping out a gun or knife in this situation. You'd have to be suicidal or stupid to do so. Honestly, I think the lack of a firearm in the right people's hands is the biggest problem currently. And this is coming from someone that doesn't have a shooting licence or any legal right to bear arms.
Passing the law or not really wouldn't change much... Even if it was illegal to have a gun period there are those who don't care and will break it anyway. Just cause there is a law against or for anything there are always gonna be those who choose to break the law. Examples: Murder is a crime. According to data made available by the FBI, In 2011, an estimated 14,612 persons were murdered in the United States Drinking and driving is illegal. EVERY TWO MINUTES, A PERSON IS INJURED IN A DRUNK DRIVING CRASH.ON AVERAGE, TWO IN THREE PEOPLE WILL BE INVOLVED IN A DRUNK DRIVING CRASH IN THEIR LIFETIME. Smoking Mary Jane is illegal ( in most places) According to government surveys, some 25 million Americans have smoked marijuana in the past year, and more than 14 million do so regularly despite harsh laws against its use. My point is no matter how many laws are out there against things people will continue to break them when they choose to do so.
Yes your right on that whether there be laws approving or going against it, it wont stop them from killing people if thats there motive. But I also believe that if this law is approved people will whip out there guns for any little situation and claim its an act of self defense. Keep in mind just cuz your able to carry a gun does not mean your suitable for one. Unfortunately there are many crazies out there and I personally would not feel its an effective way for "protection" if thats what they are trying to achieve.
I also see what your saying such as theres laws against texting and driving and drinking and driving etc but people still do them. Thats true I agree with u but also if these laws were not in place I also believe the rate of these offenses would have been much greater dont u think?
Guns don't kill people. People kill people. A person with ill itentions can easily get their hands on a weapon regardless of the law. I am actually 100% for this.
