Karyn was dancing to some electro music in my room even after I had asked her kindly to please leave. Knowing I wouldn't win, I sat on my bed, reciting intense words that I found to be "uncool" when I was younger. The words, which were said in a slow marching rhythm, "I love you, you love me... we're one happy family." Karyn went running out of my room. Seems to have worked. Looking into the blue-green mirror my new mom gave me, I thought of being a rabbit once again. This rabbit has friends this time around. Although she had faced horrible things when she was young and might have struggles to deal with now, she will survive off the land and love she has found. Walking down the small steps from my room, I got in my old blue junkie. I liked my old junkie, though. My junkie was unique and mine. After getting in the car I went to the place we were going to eat at. He was standing at the door, obviously waiting for all of us to arrive. Dad took Karyn and his new wife along and Jake had gone by himself. Why would we come together? If people saw us in a car together they would of suspected us. Sigh. He waved me over. "Wow! Amber you look..." Before he could finish his sentence, the person I least expected to be there or even work here cut him off. "She looks absolutely stunning." My ex-boyfriend who I thought was just a friend had said it. "Ch-chase?! Why are you here?" He smiled. He had a smile that made every girl fall for him. I even fell for it, sadly. "New job. Who would of thought I would spot such a beauty here?" My mind went haywire. Why here?!
Chase held the door open for Jake and I. Then my dad, Karyn and their mom came in. We walked over to a booth and sat down awkwardly. My dad, without thinking, started complaining about Chase. He started complaining about why "Chase isn't safe to be around!" and "why are you dating that guy again?" I then had to explain myself, over and over until my dad understood that Chase and I aren't together. Dad sighed and got his composure back once again. I'd known for a long time that Chase liked to play with girls hearts. Girls were a game for him and he never took them seriously. When he was dating me he would openly cheat on me just to get more girls added to his 'list'. I'd learned since then to ignore him and pretend I didn't know he existed. Today I really did my best to pretend I didn't know Chase that well. That was a smart move on my part. Jake didn't seem to care as much about the food. Instead he kept staring at my dress. "Is it okay?" He jumped at my words and then realizing what I meant, smiled. "It's great. Want to go somewhere together after?" He seemed to have forgotten my Dad, his mom and sister were at the table. Sighing, I made an excuse to make them unsuspicious then texted him a reply which he obviously realized when he said he had to go outside for a bit and "Take a call." Hehe! He gets me. That's good to know. I looked down at my phone two minutes after getting a message so I didn't seem suspicious. He wanted to take me to the park and look at the stars. I never knew Jake had an interest in astronomy. It seemed I was finding out more about my new step brother day to day and I personally didn't mind that at all. The fact that I knew our relationship would be considered bad by others was exciting for me. I couldn't wait to go to the park. This will be fun.
