Dormlympic pins price guide and history.

  1. Dormlympics was a hunt released in August of 2016. Based on the Olympics, press here for the announcement thread, this hunt included a unique aspect which set a unique and orgasmic challenge to collectors like myself to track down and find 246 different items!

Pins, as announced here, were dropping from every party; pro and common, throughout the hunt!, from spinner, from boxes hunt boxes, and from gifts (both cash and ec).
Essentially, every way the developers could think for us to earn the pins, they stuffed pins into those holes, and we plundered them!

During the event, some forums and a google sheet were made to help keep track of where everything was dropping. It was clear that some would be rare, and clubs chased down the rarest pins that people claimed not to see much.

Last year, I went on a crusade to count pins from many showcases and gain a statistically significant sample size to show what they actual rarities ended up becoming.
I knew that some were incredibly rare and some incredibly common and that I could never put a single price on them all. But understanding the extent of the differences might help with trading.

The sample size of this data was 173,958 pins across 175 showcases. There is a strong bias towards rare pins in my search as I looked at showcases of people who had very large collections of pins so as to get solid data on the rarest pins. I really wanted to be able to rank them against each other.

Anyway, here is a graph of all the pins ranked from rarest to most common. In this thread, I will simply be measuring the number of each pin that I counted.

    So
    [IMG]

There is just a solid flat line and then boom! A handful of pins jump out as the most common and dwarf the other pins. Let's remove those giants and see if we can see something interesting, eh?

Yes, we can, and now that we have a more legible and shapely graph; notice the arrows. These are pointing at markers where I intend to mainly differentiate prices. There is a continuum of value and most divisions have to be arbitrary so I tried to look for doublings of abundance and crooks in the line, and then look to the pins close to the boundaries and recall my experiences of trading them, and their buy and sell prices in order to anchor them to the market!

    From rarest to cheapest!

**Pins with asterisks are special and will be discussed and priced properly at the end of the thread.**

    Pin counts below 50!

The creme de la creme of items people completely underappreciate! These pins have been swindled from unaware sellers, with enviable profit margins!

There is a mini crook in the graph after pins below 20. Now these are far rarer than t100 items and based on how far I have looked and just how large pimd is as a game, I would doubt that there are any more than 30 of any of these pins in game, and most of them have been painstakingly collected.
I can foresee a future where they are sold for 40šŸ± each. Stats barely matter when an item is that rare.

    Pin counts 20-50

I would conservatively say there are less than 100 of each of these pins in the game which makes then basically t100 items or better. They are currently valued poorly at up to 1o each. But I think this should be a minimum sell value. 2o would be reasonable within the current market.

Pin counts from 50 to 200[IMG] This is not a very interesting part of the graph but over the course of it, it doubles twice, and I want to suggest arbitrary values for each doubling. And you can fill in the gaps.

So up to the 100 count, the value goes from 2o to 10c in the current market.

    Gambia ******25061*****

Gambia was a gift pin on the first day that pins could be gifted, and with a limit of 1000, many players sought to max them! Today, still a remarkable achievement, in the later days, people stopped caring as much about maxing. The toll it took on their thumbs was not worth the gains, and the other gift pins became a bit rarer.

Thus when pricing them, Gambia (25,061) can be 20:1c.
Handball (11,216) through to Oman (8,126) can be priced at 10:1c.

    Specials!!!

    The invisible Flag,

The Mozambiquan flag is invisible and has been invisible since the event. Legendary for being the only tradable invisible item on pimd, this one has historically been easy to convince people to pay a bit extra for. While it is within the t100 range, and the others around there can fetch a bento each at default, this can be brought up to 2 bentos.

    The misshapen flag

The Nepalese flag has a unique shape and it looks like devs had a blank flag template that was a white rectangle. As a result of hamfisting the Nepalese flag into that white rectangle, the flag went from this
    [IMG]
    to this
    [IMG]!
    Cute!

The Nepalese flag is sometimes called the most mathematical flag, here is a video that explains why!

The pin is relatively common still and I donā€™t think many people ever questioned it so it fetches a standard price for its rarity. 2-3c each.

But I wanted to share with you, anyway!

    India pin and high population.

This is a BIG FLAG and it is Indian and PIMD has many Indian players, many quite nationalistic and generous. I have had a lot of fortune trading these. They can go for 1-3 bentos per piece. 1 is safe, 2 is money boom boom, 3 is probably where money boom boom will go in time.

Just considering the very high demand, and BIGness, this pin is a cool one! (image ahead)

    BIG FLAGS!!

Big flags are just that, BIG! Even more exciting visually than the sports pins, and even less of them to collect, a collection of big flags exudes BIG dick energy. There is not really a rule with these. All the other factors are ENLARGED in big flags. Is it on the rare end? EVERYONE WANTS IT, MULTIPLY THAT VALUE BY 5 OR 10.
There arenā€™t many so here are the values and an image!

The rarest BIG FLAG is Indonesia!

    Sports flags!
Pin collection; lite. No boring flags, fun activities, smaller collection, not so many super rares but some moderately rare pins.

People who complained about the boring bunny being repeated all over their showcase tend to still tolerate the sports ones for their cool poses and whatnot, also many more people relate to a sport than their country so thereā€™s that. These fetch a bit of a premium. Maybe 1.5x to 2x the cost of surrounding flags.

Play things by ear with these. There are too many for me to list their adjusted values! The rarest sports flag is Judo!

    Popular pin collection goals:

    All big pins
    All sports pins
    All pins!

I need an American pin because It's BIG!
I want a refugee olympians pin to show solidarity with our struggling refugees.ā¤ļø
