  3. Rick's point of view:

    *BANG*

    My face grew pale.
    Wh-what was that?!

"A-Adam?" I whispered. My voice was shaking terribly.

I can hear Adam's gasps and sighs on the other line.

    Suddenly...
    It was quiet.

"A-Adam?" I tried again. My heart was racing furiously.

    Silence.

I dropped my phone on the floor. I felt my whole world crashing down.

"What happened?" Dale asked worriedly as he reached out for my cellphone.

"A-Adam..." I trailed off. I was shaking so much. My heart felt very heavy.

"What about Adam?" Dale asked as he stared into my eyes.

"He's d-dead." I stammered as a teardrop fell from my left eye.

Dale's eyes widened. He covered his mouth with his hands.
    "Are you sure?"

    I quietly nodded.

    Dale gently touched my shoulder.
"I'm so sorry for you, men. But we have to CALL the police first and CATCH the criminals. I'll drive."

Dale zoomed to my house with his cellphone on his hand. He contacted numerous police stations to ensure that the criminals were captured.

    I just remained frozen.
I didn't even know what to feel.
    My brother... killed?!

    And the worse part is:
I indirectly witnessed the whole thing.

"We're here." Dale announced as we pulled infront of the house filled with police cars around.

I ran inside and scanned the whole house.

Boy, this was worse than before.

I have to check first if they were able to save my brother, Adam.

"Sir," I called out the policeman with a clipboard, "what happened to Adam Anderson?"

"Let me check." the policeman said as he made some calls.

"Mr. Anderson is in the hospital." policeman announced as he got off on the phone.

"How is he?!" I excitedly asked, feeling relieved.

The policeman gave me a sad look.
"He's in..." the policeman trailed off, "CONDOLENCE, Mr. Rick Anderson."

My heart broke into millions of pieces.
    It means...
they were NOT able to SAVE my brother?!

I dropped on the floor as tears flowed continuously.

"R-Rick." Dale softly called out as he patted my shoulders. He was slightly crying too.

"Th-they were not able to save my BROTHER!" I wept.

    "Condolence." Dale whispered.

"My brother..." I repeated, "... is DEAD!!!"

    The whole house became silent.
All of them watched Dale and me shed some tears.

    Suddenly...

    ... footsteps became audible.

"Why am I having an early funeral?"

  9. Rick's point of view:

"Why am I having an early funeral?" a man who just arrived asked.

Dale and I quickly looked around.

"ADAM!!!" Dale and I both joyously shouted. We ran to Adam and gave him a BIG HUG!

Adam, who is totally confused, reluctantly returned the hug.
"Why are you like this? You were acting as if I was dead."

    I looked at him.
"Because the policeman said..." I trailed off as I quickly turned to the policeman who was totally shocked.

"The nurse said... that you didn't make it. That you died just 20 minutes ago." the policeman explained to Adam.

"Weird nurse. She must have mixed up the records." Adam laughed.

Then, I noticed a big bandage on Adam's leg.
"What happened?" I asked as I pointed at his wounded leg.

    Adam sighed.
"Well, the moment that Dad's friends found out where I was hiding, they started stabbing my leg."

"They stabbed your leg? That's horrid!" Dale exclaimed.

    Adam looked at Dale.
"It sure is. The pain was unbearable. The worst thing is that I can't walk properly now."

    Then, I remembered something.

"Adam," I started, "If you were stabbed on the leg by Dad's friends, what was that gunshot that I heard on the phone? Were they the ones who also fired that gun?"

    Adam smiled.
"No. That gunshot saved my life."

"Saved your life? Who's the hero?" Dale asked.

    Suddenly...

    ... the door opened and...

... a familiar face greeted me.

    The girl smiled and said,
    "I did."
