  19. Chelsea's point of view:

    Ken burst out laughing.
"H-help y-you?!" he laughed even more.

    Ugh.
This was really wrong of me to call him.

"You know what? NEVERMIND!" I spat out, totally annoyed.

"Wait! Chelsea! I'm so sorry. What was it?" Ken blurted out apologetically.

"For the record, I only called you because DESPERATE times call for DESPERATE measures, you know?" I quoted cooly.

"Yeah, sure," Ken added bluntly, "So what's the problem?"

    I hesitated for a moment.
Maybe... I should have not called Ken.
That's right. I'll just ask help from other people.
"No, nevermind. I'm already okay," I lied, "Sorry to distu-"

Suddenly, I felt a big cockroach crawl on my leg.

I let out an ear-splitting scream.

"Chelsea? Are you all right? Chelsea?!" Ken called out, totally concerned.

    "S-save me." I wailed.

"Where are you right now?" Ken hastily asked.

    "Sch-school's rooftop." I shivered.

"Hang on. I'll be there." Ken assured me and hung up.

Right now, I DO NOT CARE who will be saving me.
    All I know is that...
I have been stood up by my date.
I am extremely tired and hungry.
And there's a possibility that there are hundreds of cockroaches waiting for me in the dark.

I felt hot tears flow on my cheeks.

Why did Rick do this to me?
I mean, there might be a good reason why he didn't show up tonight...
But... why didn't he make an effort to call me?

    Then, I heard footsteps.
    Someone is here!

I quickly ran towards the door.

"RIC-" I happily greeted as the door unlocked.

"I'm so sorry to disappoint you." the muscular man gasped as the door swung open.

"Ken! That was incredibly fast!" I exclaimed. Ken was sweating like a pig.

"W-well... I heard you scream... so I ran here like crazy." Ken gasped for air.

    I froze.
    What did he just say?

"You fell in love with me again?" Ken joked when he caught me staring at him.

"Not in a million years!" I spat out.

"Hey! Where's my thank-you gift?" Ken demanded as I exited the door.

I turned around to face him.
"With all the painful things you've done to me, I guess my thank-you gift would be forgiving you."

    Ken smiled.
    "Then, we're even."

I ignored him and turned around. Even though Ken saved me, I still can't bear to be with him. I loved Rick even with what happened tonight.

    Suddenly, my stomach loudly growled.

In a split second, Ken was on the floor, laughing hysterically.
    "Ch-Chelsea... you sure didn't change."

"S-stop." I blushed furiously. That was embarrassing.

"Want me to take you to dinner?" Ken offered.

    I hesitated for a moment.
"No thank you." I answered. I want to stay loyal to Rick even if he didn't show up tonight.

"It's not a date at all. It's just to celebrate our renewed friendship." Ken beamed.

"It's okay, Ken. I'd rather go home." I answered softly.

    Suddenly, my stomach growled.
It was louder than the other one.

A smile crept from Ken's sweating face.
"C'mon!" He grabbed my hand before I could respond.

"I would have carrot soup, fried chicken with two bowls rice and a hamburger." I cited to the waitress the moment I sat down at our table. Who could blame me? I'm starved.

"You eat like a pig." Ken laughed.

    I glared at him.

"Just water for me." Ken ordered. The waitress left immediately.

"Water? You in a diet?" I joked.

It was nice to be friends with Ken again. But now, there were no special feelings involved.

Ken ignored my question and just stared at my face.

"Is there something on my face?" I asked.

    Ken sighed.
"I blame myself for not noticing a long time ago."

    "Notice what?" I asked.

    "Chelsea, you...

    ...look really beautiful."
