Control. Converting emotional pain to physical pain. Distraction. There's more reasons, but those are the most prevalent.
My reason used to be that maybe if I caused myself pain, the rest of my life would get better. And I punished myself for EVERYTHING.
Hmm. You'd have to be in a pretty dark place (mentally) to even consider it though... Feel sorry for you guys that've been there!
Yup, really does make it worse. The only way to help yourself is to admit to someone what's truly going on with you. Get professional help, it's nothing to be ashamed of. There are better ways to handle your pain. Positive ones.
cutting helps no one hun talking about your stress and problem is what really helps, cutting is often used as a way to let it all out. I suggest the more healthy alternative, go talk to a psychologist. most health insurance plans cover it and no, you are not crazy, talking helps. psychologists sit and listen and help you discover ways to deal with your wild emotions and stress, I've had depression for a while now, and used to be a cutter for about 5 years on and off I can proudly say that talking it out with my psychologist has kept me cut free for over a year it really does help to talk things out with an unbiased person, stay strong hun
I'm not pregnant but I've been raped. I'm emo. My boyfriend cheated on me and had to just have one of his friends tell me he was leaving me. Yeah not judging but your not the only one we're only trying to help Hun.
Good for you, peaches. Glad you got the help you needed. Guys, cutting doesn't help. It's just the adrenaline rush masking the problems. You're actually making matters worse for yourselves. You need to get actual help. Depression is a chemical imbalance in your brain. You can't just ignore that, most times it'll just get worse and worse until it drives you to be even more irrational.
It's hard for everyone. Take it from someone who's been where you are and made it to the other side. Sure I'm not scratch free, but I'm on the other side alive. Listen to Michelle. She knows what she's talking about when it comes to psychology. If you just want to talk to someone who's been there though, I'm always here. Chat me any time. Good luck to you. And now I'll turn it over to the others.
