Quincy I'm going about 10 miles over the speed limit, but the police car I passed was too distracted with his newspaper. Right as I was about to leave town, I realized I didn't know where I was going. "How do I ask where someone lives without sounding like a creeper?" I thought out loud. I decided to look at Wal-Mart, they have everything. As I walked inside I saw the phonebooks, perfect. I flipped through until I saw David's last name, thankfully there was only one McConnor. I sped out to his house determined to find Kylie. ------- Kylie Seriously? David broke up with me, was he jealous when he saw me and Quincy or something? Whatever happened, I was now tied up in his basement. Worst part, his parents were still in Alaska. Suddenly I heard the door slam upstairs. I looked towards the stairs expecting David to come running down them. Then I remembered that he had gone out for food. "Kylie!" I heard a familiar voice yell from up the stairs.
Quincy I heard Kylie shout from downstairs. I rushed down and found her tied to a wooden rocking chair. When she saw me, Kylie started to cry. "Shh, it's all right," I whispered as I unbound her hands and feet. After she was free, I grabbed Kylie's hands and led her outside. We got in my car and started driving. I took her to the only safe place I could think of, my house. ------- Kylie I was surprised that Quincy took me to his place. I guess my house wouldn't be safe, and I didn't know anywhere else to go. His house was... well basically a shack. It was small and run-down, yet cozy. Once we got inside, Quincy sat down in his recliner and I sat on his lap. He brushed my hair out of my eyes and sighed, "We made it." ------- David I came home from KFC with a half-eaten bucket of chicken and found my basement deserted. "****!" I cursed into the empty air. Now I'm determined. Determined to track her down
Kylie Sometime during the night I must have fallen asleep because when I woke up I saw Quincy reading a floating book. Wait, FLOATING book! "Oh, I'm dreaming," I thought to myself. I started to sit up and realized that no I wasn't because I felt the loose spring pressing into my skin. When Quincy felt me move, he made the book drop and looked over at me with a scared look. "Did you just see that?" he asked. "I'd say yes, but that couldn't have been real. Could it?" I replied. "Reality has many meanings Kylie." "Omg, what are you?" "Human, I just have certain abilities ." I hugged him fiercely whispering, "I still love you." ------- Quincy She said it. Even after she realized I'm a freak. Not even my parents loved me after that. I pulled her chin up gently and whispered back, "I love you too." Then we kissed. ------- Jess On Saturday, Kylie ignored all my calls. I wanted to ask her what she was mad about. What did I do? "Hey Kylie, it's me again. I really need to talk to you. Call me." I said in monotone to her answering machine. Where was she?
Kylie I spent the rest of the weekend at Quincy's house. I learned that his parents had disowned him because of his telekinesis. He lived alone without anyone to help him survive, yet he was doing fine. On Monday we decided that it probably wouldn't be a good idea to skip school again, no matter how we wanted to. We took Quincy's car since mine was still at my house, and on the way I realized I didn't have my phone. Hard to grab stuff when you're being kidnapped. ------- Quincy We pulled into the parking lot just as the warning bell rang and had just enough time to sprint to class. Kylie's friend, Jess, called out while we ran past. Kylie just looked annoyed. ------- Jess When the lunch bell rang, I shot out of my seat and raced to Kylie's locker. As she walked up to me standing there, Kylie's expression turned from hate to curiosity. "What in the world could you possibly want?" she asked me sarcastically. "Enlightenment. What did I do to make you so pissed?" Kylie looked behind her at the new guy, who I just realized was following her. "Let's go eat," she told him. "Kylie, have you ever considered that David might have been lying?" the guy, Q-something, asked her softly. Kylie looked like she was trying to move but couldn't. Weirdness. "No fair," she mumbled. "Huh?" I wondered out loud. "Never mind, you cheated with David. That's like the number one BFF rule broken. How could you?" "What? I did not! Who told you that?" "Uhh...David, I guess. Ok sorry, I should've known. I'm gullible like that. Are we cool?" "I don't know...just kidding, we're cool." "Yay, see ya at lunch Jess!" ------- Kylie After Jess left I elbowed Quincy and whisper-shouted, "Cheater!" "Hey it needed to be done," he said with a shrug. At lunch, Quincy, Jess, and I sat at a separate table until our crew came over. "Omg, all ready find another one," Liz said with a smirk. "You're totally gonna make David upset!" yelled Tina. "Why would he be upset when he has you?" I countered. "Where did you hear that!" Tina shrieked. "Little birdie." I could tell that Quincy was uncomfortable so I slid closer to him and took his hand. "Now would you two please leave if you're going to be brats." After they left, Quincy whispered "thank you" in my ear while Jess just stared at me.
Quincy After Kylie went up against her "crew" at lunch, the rest of the day was pretty boring. We had class and drove back to my house. I swear, it felt like she was moving in. I consider that the best option anyway. Kylie seemed paranoid the rest of the day, though... ------- Kylie When they left, I realized that they had spoken mostly truth. David was pissed at me, and he doesn't stop at something until he's forced to or finishes it. I was screwed if he found me. ------- David I watched Kylie all throughout school. I didn't go to class, but when you're a hot-shot like me you just don't. Seemed like she and Tina had a tiff, maybe I could use that. ------- Sorry it's short, I'm just tired.
Quincy That night Kylie couldn't sleep. We were laying on the couch because being in bed together didn't seem quite right. "Kylie, is something wrong? You've been acting worried since lunch," I whispered to her. She let out a long and heavy sigh before answering, "Sorry, it's just I know David too well to think he'll give up. If he ever finds us..." "Even if he does, I promise to protect you from him." "Quincy, you don't know what he can do." "Everything will be okay, Kylie. Why don't we get some sleep?" After she had fallen asleep, I heard the sound of a car coming up the gravel. "****," I whispered under my breath as I opened the blinds across the room ever so slightly. ------- Kylie I woke up to the sound of the door locking itself. I glanced up at Quincy who just stared out the blinds. At first glance you wouldn't have seen anything, but if you look really closely, you see a car peeking out of the tree-line. Quincy saw me freaking out and we immediately ran quietly to the attic entrance. In the closet of the bedroom, Quincy opened a hatch in the ceiling (I was almost used to his powers) and grabbed his book as we climbed up. After we got into the crawl space, everything went back to the way it was before. The camouflaged panel fell back into place and the closet door closed. Who had found us?
Tina I listened to my stilettos click across the old porch. At the door, I peeked inside the window to see an abandoned living room. "If they're not here, David's gonna be pissed," I thought. The door looked ready to cave in, so instead of knocking, I shouted, "Hey! Is anyone here? I wanna talk!" ------- Quincy When the familiar voice shouted into the house, Kylie relaxed slightly. I, on the other hand, was still worried that we'd been found. Kylie started to jump down from the secret entrance, but I stopped her whispering, "Maybe you should stay here. She might have been sent to find you or as a distraction." "Are you sure?" "I won't let you get hurt." She backed away, but still had a worried look on her face. "I promise, I'll be right back." ------- Kylie Would he be able to handle Tina? Was this a trap? Why did David send Tina, anyway? I heard the door open along with Tina's heels clicking across the tile. "Uhh...hi?" Quincy said in an uncomfortable tone. "Hey, have you seen Kylie lately? I want to apologize." "Not since school." "I see..." Uh-oh. Tina always had a built-in lie detector. ------- Quincy "Yeah, I took her home soon as the bell rang." Tina grabbed my shoulder and shoved me into the wall. Though her expression was terrifying, I was a good foot and a half taller than her. Her threats didn't mean much. "You listen here Quincy," Tina growled, attempting a threatening stance, "Tell me where she is or I'll rip your head off!" I grabbed her hand and easily threw it off my shoulder. "Tina you don't scare me. Even if I knew where Kylie was I wouldn't tell you, okay?" At that, she stormed out, yelling over her shoulder, "You'll regret this!" "Goodnight to you too!"
