Simp, it was not the lightning strike odds that was important in my post. It was the fact that me mildly flaming a person online for doing something dumb WILL NOT kill anyone unless that person already has something wrong with them. Strike the problem at the heart. Instead of laying the blame on the unfortunate guy that placed the straw that broke the camel's back, blame the guy that put the rest of the weight there. I can't stress this enough: all of the suicide and cyberbullying stories are about people being bullied virtually by people they know in real life. It's not the comment that kills them, it's the fact that they think there is no way to escape the torment because they have to see that person face to face every day. They don't have to subject themselves to the forums, do they? The answer is no. If the forums are saying things they don't like, they always have the option to leave, never to face the problem again.
iEx: You don't know what is happening to the person you're trolling. Maybe they have been being bullied, and being trolled has pushed them over the edge, leading to suicide. All we're saying is that you don't know what's going on in their life, and you don't know how they'll handle it. Also, you're saying that none of these stories have people they don't know bullying them. Oreo only posted 6 stories. And there's, what, millions of stories about bullying? I dare you to look up stories about being bullied by random people that lead to suicide. You're bound to find it.
I did. Im not sifting through pages of google results to find an outlier. People can simply leave if they don't like trolling. They don't have to stick around and take it if they are THAT close to the edge. They leave.
Oh my god, just let it go. Lots of people think trolling is bad, some say it's good. We have our opinions. And this goes for everyone.
Wawat I'm not saying you're not wise at all. I'm just saying that with age comes wisdom. Granted not all that are older are wise.
iEX just because I see someone daily does not constitute knowing. Yes those stories depict persons being bullied by persons that they see not know. There's a difference. Let's face it...we all deal with situations differently. You portray to have a strong mind and not allow things to upset you where is others may not be as strong. Example: someone calls you ugly. You laugh and smile about it. However subconsciously you are questioning if that comment was true. Now you are doing everything to make yourself more appealing to the eye which in actuality there's nothing to fix.
Well the knowing the person or not doesn't matter, either. If the person has to confront the person away from a chatboard it automatically takes a more severe effect. I know what you're saying though. People react to situations differently, but people don't kill themselves because an anonymous person they don't know or have to see again made a crass or hurtful comment.
iEX your opinion sounds rational. However, everyone doesn't think and feel the same as you. Sometimes it okay to think outside the box.....try being opened minded. Things appear much better and real when you do so. I've worked with persons who have contemplated suicide so I don't need to look it up on google to support my theory. Let's face the facts: face to face bullying and cyber bullying can have the same effect on people.
But there is an obvious difference in the cases between those who know their online bully who commit suicide and those who don't.
