It's not really an athlete if anything athletes require to do physical active in this case it doesn't mean moving your fingers around massing buttons if anything gamin is more of a hobby
Chess is a sport deal with it. Gaming however is not a sport yes you get paid but it is a profession. Just because it is a tournament does not make it a sport but simply a friendly (sometimes) competition.
Chess has been around for centuries. It's play competitively worldwide and there are tournaments. Classes are taught in schools on it. It requires deep thought and strategy if you play it at a competitive level. You don't see that with Connect 4 or StarCraft. You see those at a family's dining room table with root beer floats.

StarCraft and those nerdy realtime strategy games require a lot of planning ahead and whatever. Same as chess.
