~~~~UPDATE~~~~ I'm still healing. I'm still finding who I actually am. Not the person I was. Not the person I wanted to be before. I just want to be the Darla that makes me happy, and not the Darla that makes everyone happy, but herself. I need to heal mentally and physically. I can't change the way I'm blind or the fact that I'm paralyzed, but you know what? I don't regret any of it. It taught me an important lesson. I shouldn't be pressured to do anything that makes other people happy and not myself. That's the Darla I want to be. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Can I feel?" I ask. "Of course. As many times as you want," Jesse responds. I put my hands on his face. It helps me feel for his appearance. I rub my fingers on his smooth cheeks and cheekbones, then his nose. I feel his hair, a long crew cut, that falls slightly over his eyes. "What color is your hair?" I ask gently. "It's reddish-brown. My mom is a redhead and my father has brown hair," he answers without haste. "And your eyes?" I whisper close to his face. "They change color. Gray to blue to dark brown," I feel him smile. It must not be easy for him to befriend me, a helpless, blind girl, but he's been such a huge help to me. He carries me up the stairs, so I don't have to walk in pain, and he gets my food for me in the cafeteria, so I wouldn't have to get up. I can't thank him enough. I always say thank you to him, but he just laughs and says it's not a huge deal. It is a huge deal though, to finally have someone that doesn't care that you can't see them or that can't walk like everyone else. I've only known him for several months, but he's a friend I'd like to keep. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ He tucks me into my bed and kisses my forehead good night. Kinda reminds you of someone huh? It's totally different with him though. "Wait, Jesse," I say. "What is it?" he smiles. "Thank you for helping me," I smile even though he probably can't see it because of the darkness. "Don't worry about it," he chuckles and shuts the door lightly. I lay back down in my bed smiling about how lucky I am. He reminds me of the old Zach, a little bit, always smiling, cheerful, caring, and just so charismatic. I guess Zach's been replaced; I should've done that a long time ago. Anyway, Jesse is just so perfect. His personality, his laugh, and his smile, I feel like the Independence Day Parade is going on when he smiles. I feel it. His face seems perfect too. I can't see, but I know it's as great as his personality. I don't know that much about him; he won't tell me anything. I find it a little weird that he knows my whole life story, but I don't mind really. I think I hear slight jealousy in his voice if I mention events involving Zach, but he has nothing to worry about. Zach is no match against him. I don't know what my feelings towards Jesse are, but maybe once I get to know him better, they'll come out. I just hope I don't get my heart broken again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Darla," Jesse's voice coos in my mind. I wake up to see him sitting on my bed, playing with my hair. "Good morning, sunshine," he says smiling. I laugh and punch him in the arm, "Good morning to you too!" "We're going to the shopping center today! We're leaving in ten minutes!" Jesse says. We go to the shopping center every two weeks for clothes and food outside of cafeteria food. Jesse usually stays with me and helps me shop for new clothes. After the accident, I kind of steered myself away from all my other clothes. My mother donated it to Goodwill; I felt like a huge burden had been lifted from my shoulders. The girly part of that still remains with me, so for that matter, I enjoy shopping. Jesse sits with me in the handicap bus to the shopping center. I haven't had contact with people for a while, so maybe this will be good for me. When we arrive, he helps me off the bus and I begin to walk with my walking stick and Jesse clutching my arm. When I walk through the doors, it hits me, all the beautiful sounds I've been missing out on. I hear the children screaming, the chatter of the customers and the smell of the delicious food from the concession stands. It feels great to have things back to normal. "Where would you like to go first?" Jesse grasps my arm and helps me walk down the steps into the bustling shopping center. "Oh, anywhere you'd like!" I smile. We walk around for a bit until my legs feel shaky. Jesse notices my tension and sits me down on a nearby bench. "If you're tired, just say so! You've only began walking without your cane for a month!" Jesse scolds me gently. "I'm fine," I say simply. "You always say you're fine! You never call me for help, ever! You want to do everything yourself, Darla," I sense the sorrow in his voice. "It's just... I don't rely on people much. I always get hurt in the end right? Look at me? I'm blind and I'm a human robot," I face him and frown. "You should ask for help when you need it, you know, I'm here to help," he puts his arm around my shoulder and helps me up, "let's go now, shall we?" We walk around for a while longer until I feel Jesse's excitement shock my arm. "What is it, Jesse?" I ask innocently. "I found something perfect for you," he whisks me off to a nearby kiosk, from what I can tell and puts metal chain around my neck. "What's this?" I say as I pick up the metal charm the chain is holding. "It's a whistle. It's good for a girl like you to carry around. Whenever you need me, just blow the whistle. I'll be by your side," I feel Jesse smile. "How much does it cost?" I ask. "That is not your concern." "I will not accept this! It's not fair! All you've done for me is help me and I haven't done anything in return," I protest. "We'll take it," he tells the salesperson and pays for it himself. "I hate you," I respond. "Stop acting like you haven't received a present, Darla!" he laughs. He's actually right; I've never received a present this special before. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We get back to the rehabilitation center at sunset and as usual, Jesse is by my side. "You don't ever stop do you?" I smile and laugh at him. "I could never," he smiles and tucks me into bed. As he's walking out of room, I call, "Wait! Jesse!" "Yes?" he's smiling, I know it. "Thank you." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bo-oring. I know . I sowwy! I feel like this sequel is going to be a blur.... . So, like Jihi's I'll give you 24 hours I guess, to choose what you'd like to have in the story! One vote per person . I AM PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE... MY COLLABORATOR . -drum roll- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~ ~~ ~ Melancholy--_-- !!!!!!! I'm here after the awaiting, thank you for your patience. Man this story and genre is really new to me, also all these new people I haven't meet. Hopefully you'll like this update~ Maybe if you do there's always more of Mel by checking out her latest project: ?Çursę of Thę Døłł? Update (>=<) ~?~ The way my cheeks felt like they were burning off my checks showed just how harshly the sun was attacking the surface of my face. Good news though considering I’ll probably be stuck inside a stuffy room all day today, see recently the clinic has been offering the opportunity for me to get some therapy work done. It’s all about the usual telling your feelings business crap but the therapist I got stuck with… It is a bloody hippy! What on Earth is my past during doing being so sneaking like this? I wonder how on Earth this girl didn’t end up like Drew or the others, she isn’t on any drugs or smokes that I am aware of. For me this is more just trying to get my feelings in tack, after all that was one big mess I got myself into. Since this session was a first I decided to go it alone and meet Jesse outside the room once this little experiment was over with. Wheeling into the small room I could feel the presence of one of those ‘happy and always smiling’ people. “Hello, you must be Darla correct? Well you can just call me Skyy.” Her voice was wrenching of sunshine as I predicted as she put an unneeded emphasis on the ‘y’ at the end. My head nodded in response as I felt around for a spot to park my wheel chair, I was being overly cautious because of whom she was. How exactly could she help a person like me anyway? She hasn’t gone through what I have so why is she here? “How do we get this started Sky?” My voice sounded surprisingly colder then I accepted but I’m not allowing her to break this wall. Somehow I knew she was smiling as she was on too many peppy pills, it was almost like she enjoyed the challenge that I was putting forward. The most uncomfortable event of the day couldn’t come soon enough though, at the end of my shorter than regular sessions with Sky ended. Wheeling myself back outside I could feel Jesse’s strong grip onto my shoulder. “How was it? Got anything work done?” His domineer was a cross between intense then just trying to calm himself down. I guess he doesn’t like the physiologists much. “No my face will stay the same.” Trying and failing to tease him we made it into the small even duller building that they try to pass off as a cafeteria. The only thing to make it even remotely qualified to be one is that it had two vending machines, drinks and chips… How great. “Not really just the same mundane introduction into my life crap.” His voice sounded a bit more relaxed as he spoke now, it’s about time he calmed down about my visit. “So anything exciting happen when I wasn’t at your-” Bloody what is this sticky liquid on my lap, the force of a person knocking into my set my wheel chair back a few. From the shrill of the voice I could tell it was a girl that banged into me. “Just great, listen that will be two dollars and fifty cents you owe me wheel chair.” Her voice… No why are those types of people even in this place, a stuck up and snobby girl. “Jen, you were the one who-” Jesse was now aiding to the mess on my lap by handing me a couple… Well more like twenty napkins. It was also obvious that he knew her by the use of this women’s name but how deep is their past? “Shut it, you going to use this one to make yourself better? She playing the victim you playing the hero. How sad. Listen Wheel Chair is you wanna be the dumb ass princess be my guest.” This girl, who the hell does she think she is! “Hey now it’s your turn to shut your trap. I’m not playing a Cinderella story here so mind your own-” The men beside me cupped my mouth, Jesse whispered something into my ear. “She’s not worth it.” His voice mouse-like, I guess it’s a safe bet to so he doesn’t like this Jen. After that little fiasco we ended up getting a packet of chips each and mixed the flavours up, chilli-chicken this time. Though Jesse was a lot quieter than normal that whole incident and I plan to get to the bottom of it. If she approaches us again then I’d have to find out, otherwise this place will become more like a jail.
