  1. Yes you are right. And you got (6)/(5/6) so instead of dividing by a fraction you multiply by the reciprocal. Imagine (6/1)/(5/6) this turns into (6/1)*(6/5) so the answer is 36/5

  2. I thought it was like for example:

    Problem: 1/5 (plus) 2/8

    Was: 1/40 (plus) 2/40
    made it 8/40 (plus) 10/40?

Cuz like the whole "how did you get 40 as the common denominator" thing was "well i multiplied 5•8 and got 40"

And then, since in the 1/5 one, to get the 5 to 40 i multiplied by 8, i had to multiply 1•8 to get the numerator, and vice versa for the 2/8 one?

  3. What the hell is the reciprocal

    I cant believe i forgot all this 

  4. You could also do 6/ (5/6). The denominator is a quantity.

  5. Yes.

But it might be easier sometimes, if they have a lower common multiple, to use a lower one.

Like 40 and 20. It'd be easier to multiply the whatever over 20 fraction by two to make it equal something over 40 than multiply the 40 and 20 and get 800.

  6. Oh wait I get it now........

  7. A reciprocal is the opposite of the fraction. Flip it.

    6/1 reciprocate it = 1/6

  8. Yes you are right. For finding a common denominator you can always multiply your denominators together and make that your common denominator. It won't necessarily give you the least common denominator but it will work.

  9. You have to multiply the numerator by that number too. 1/8= 5/40 not 1/40

  10. Oh wait you said that. 

  11. So then the 6 on top of the 5/6 I add the 1 just to turn it into a fraction, but it still equals 6 cuz it's 6/1, and then just multiply that by 6/5 (6/1•6/5) and get the answer 36/5?...

  12. Ok Ok im getting it back. 

U guys (and girls) are my heroes.

  13. Whatever you multiply your denominator by to get the common denominator, you also have to multiply the numerator by that. So if you have (1/5) and you want it's denominator to be 40 then since you had to multiply the denominator by 8 to get 40, you also have to multiply the numerator by 8. Which gives you (8/40)

  14. I love math.  no problem

  15. Yes evil exactly.

  16. I used to love math..... But then I went to high school. 

  17. Here is a random example of fractions, division, and reciprocal. In the first case there is a fraction divided by a whole number. The second case is a whole number divided by a fraction. It is important to notice when you have a fraction and when you have a division sign. When you see an extended line, it may be a division sign.

  18. Ignore the scratched out stuff, that's for physics  or was

  19. I like Math for that reason. It actually requires thinking. Memorizing the first president of the united states and what a metaphor is doesn't provide much of a challenge. Math and science ftw 

  20. Thanks 

But wait.... Which column is bigger then?

    A or B?

Cuz column A turns out to be... 7 1/5 right? Amd column B is only 7, so column A is bigger..
