Well, the pound didn't really disappear. In fact, there's no logic to this puzzle at all. The second to last sentence confuses the mind such that you can't think of the answer. For those of you who are confused, the answer is: The room still costs £25, and the bellhop got £2, and they each got one back, totalling £3. There's the £30. So, really, the hotel clerk should be arrested for not giving back change in the first place.
